Pretty much. The expectation was to go into the next year with Nilsson and Hogberg and transition towards one of Gus daccord or Soogard over time as the goalie of the future. Murray trade came out of nowhere though Nilsson's health probably played a role.

We were rebuilding, nobody had expectations of winning short term, so a big money goalie was unexpected.
Gus, Daccord and Sogaard aren’t ready. Still aren’t and they would have needed someone anyways . I think this move along with Dadonov whole appreciated, were too early

Never meant to imply those guys were ready, I think they were hoping to run with B level guys like Nilsson, till they were. I also think they expected more out of Hogberg, but with Nilsson heading to ltiretiring, they needed to get somebody and instead of another Nilsson they took a swing at a potential long term solution.

In theory it wasn't a bad idea, I personally just didn't like the contract given the known injury history and him coming off a sub 900 SV% year

Listened to Lajoie driving back to Ottawa with some George guy on Fan 590. He's a decent host. He also does Blue Jay scoring and hosts some post game shows (or did).

Was very surprised he was involved with the Sens. He's on the radio enough you would figure that would be his full time gig.

Definitely a Melnyk Toronto hire.

So he might already be on the way out, but if not this should absolutely be a fireable offense.
It would be in any other situation but I would bet the board Melnyk set up is also a bunch of Leafs fans and that old boys club isn't about to fire one of their own for openly cheering for the Leafs as the director of marketing for the Sens. Talk about dead salary. Might be even worse than the Murray contract.

Is there a chance that it was trolling?... Implying to fire the current coach to rock the boat? I have a hard time believing anyone could be so stupid otherwise.

No, his gig is as a Fan590 sports radio host in Toronto. He was on all Sunday morning talking about the Leafs (same way a 1200 host would in Ottawa) and what do to post elimination...and his main point was change the coach.

It's more what he does as a Sens employee that baffles me. This dude is a radio host in Toronto.

Since when did the term creative equate to stupid?
