Tuesday Morning's TSN1200 TGOR (or whatever they call it), had Simpson go off pretty good on Murray. But the part that stood out was, he took a pretty good dig at him for his work the previous two years in Pittsburg. Now, that had me thinking. How is that surfacing? What prompted Simmer? Maybe information leaking out about Murray's last two season in Pittsburg?

Which begs the question, how did the Sens not know that? How did the Sens not investigate this so hard? His failure was not a "hey, these things can happen, you never know". No, his failure was almost guaranteed.

The answer is that Simmer doesn't really know a GD thing. I am in no way defending PD, either.

No question, the Sens due diligence is awful and next to non-existent (Stepan is a pretty clear example). It's possible the front office is the least connected in all of the league. Maybe Pierre has no one to call to vet these things. Hopefully someone got him that Dale Carnegie book for Christmas and we can let him lose at the next GMs meeting to work the room and build up that rolodex.

"Due diligence"? I think the problem is "poor hockey management"!

a playoff team needs 95 points to capture 8th spot. 95 points in a 82 game season is a 0.58 point ratio.

So the Sens need to get ~ 72 points from games 21 to 82 to "play at a level indicative of a playoff bubble team"....So far, 4 points. They will need 62-68 more.

A point percentage of 58% should be easy to track. By game 41, we should be able to see if they are close. By game 41, they need to be at around 30-35 points. By game 61, 51-58 points. And by season's end, 74-82 points.

Measurables....
@swiftwin you may be proven right.

Pierre definitely loves his job, good for him.
he has delivered..

Games 1-20, 9 points
games 21-40, 23 points. All the while injuries and covid and an insane schedule.

23 points in 20 game is 94 points in 82..Correcting for insane injuries, covid and schedule ~ 99 to 100 points. This is a playoff team.

FYOUS is actually real. For those that will say 20 games is not a long enough sample size! Add last year's last 20. Who the heck knows what the bleep happened games 1-20, but before and after, pretty good.

Timmie is a star, Norris is a Star, Batherson a star, Forminton, Brady a star, Chabot a star, Zub, Thompson..pretty much as promised. And the crown jewel may still be coming in Sanderson. A fully healthy team is very competitive.

If the next 20 is 23 points or more, he eats apple pie, we eat humble pie.

Let's hope that the government opens things up so that the team is not starved. 5-6 guys will be up in the next year or two. The coffers had better be full for them. Now is a real good time for swëatred's $25.

Go Sens.

BG: "Pierre, I know that you've had injuries, players with COVID, everyone has to walk uphill through two feet of snow both ways to the arena and you've also had a nasty hangnail. Given that you've overcome unbelievable obstacles to become one of the best teams in the league if we take this one small sample size of games played over a one week period and if you exclude that one game in the middle where you got blown out. What are your thoughts on the season so far?"

Some serious hard hitting journalism here folks.

Pretty standard, but liked what he said about Nick Paul.

Keep that budget in tact and spend it on your big guns.

Ottawa is $20 million below the Cap. This logic is why Duclair isn’t in Ottawa, it’s not “saving it for the big guys” it’s “I don’t have money to keep this team together.”

Letting Paul go to FA isn’t smart management and saving for the big guns. It’s an admission you’ve failed at business and revenue.

Del Zotto makes $2 million in Bingo which is basically Paul’s salary. Having Del Zotto in Bingo and letting Paul is exactly why Dorion has had last place teams for so long.

Not signing Paul is a massive failure of Dorion if it gets to that. The poster child for making it and developing and your A - Paul is the type of guy you win with, he is literally every Dorion preaches about being a Sen.

I get what youre saying but they're a cap floor team. Not sure what else can be expected but to have to move on from guys like Paul to preserve what little budget there is.

Stop giving $4M guaranteed to borderline NHLers who were on one year league minimum contracts the year before who then end up in the AHL?

Any previous mistakes from Dorion are already made, so no need to make more. I think it's a mistake for a team with such tight budget restrictions to be paying tertiary players like Paul what they would get on the open market. 60-70 mil budget won't stretch very far.

I appreciate what he does and would like to keep him, but I don't want to end up with another Zack Smith and Cody Ceci contribution level combo eating up ~10% of your budget.

Hard hitting interview for sure! Asking all the tough questions.

Even more tough questions. Pierre is brave he always faces the hardest media guys in Ottawa head on!

I wonder if anyone will ask him. 'So Pierre you talked all summer about not making the same mistakes as last year to start the season and awarding the best players the most icetime'. 'Yet as an organization you did the exact same thing.' 'Formenton buried, Brannstrom in Belleville'. 'What hope do we have for next season so were not out of it in November the team wont do the exact same thing'.

God knows these questions wont happen. Which is why I dont care to listen.
