Anyone not find PD comments in GB interview about Brannstrom surprising?

Sens need to get proactive in bringing in talent that is actually playing like talent, rather than guys they hope find their game.

I clipped the quote BondraTime but you couldn't be more accurate in terms of what the Sens need to do!

**Dollar totals from Cap Friendly**

I did some math! Sens are around $11M below the cap right now

Remove Tierney ($3.5M), Sanford ($2M), Ennis ($900K), J Brown ($1.2M), Bishop ($800K), MEte ($1.2M) and Forsberg ($900K) - that's $10.5M almost guaranteed to be off the books and not coming back.

Guys with expiring deals who I think will get new contracts: Norris (925), Paul ($1.35M), Gaudette (997k), Gambrell ($1.1M), and Formenton (750K) - which is $5.12M

Bobby Ryan buyout goes from $3.58 to $1.83 which is $1.75M in extra dollars.

That's 11 + 10.5 + 5.12 + 1.75 = $28.37M

For simple math, let's say the team is going to be exactly $8M below the cap. That's $20.37M to play with for Dorion.

Norris. Easily looking at what, $7.5M aav?
Paul: $2.75M
Formenton: $2.95M
Gaudette: $1.2M
Gambrell: $975K

Total: $15.375

Not counting Sanderson coming in...so add ECL dollars + incentives to the cap.
Also Gus coming in on his 1-way deal.

Of the $20M Dorion has to play with, he's got less than $4M to to sign a skilled RW once he's done locking up the guys the team wants to keep. And Dorion will need to keep some wiggle room to sign Jimmy

Some big dollars are going to need to be moved out to land a big fish like Fiala.

it should be noted that math is not my strong suit, so there's a good chance I screwed up.

A proper interview and not just softball questions. It ain’t much to ask, I ain’t asking to berate the dude or attack him.

I can assure you that Steve Warne or Mendes would have asked better questions while being respectful.
It isn’t a proper interview though. No I’m
Not sure they would have lol. Also things are going well right now. Trade deadline, injuries, stutzle. I thought it was fine. Would have liked to hear about crookshank

So you have Formenton on a 2 year bridge for 2.95?

With a healthy Norris, White & Pinto do they bring back both Gambrell & Gaudette? I doubt it, although they are both RFAs & maybe one goes to Bellevile. If anything maybe Gaudette is signed as a 13th forward, but they could just as easily re-sign Ennis cheaper to sit & wait for an injury to replace someone. Should be interesting what they do with some of these bubble guys.

I forgot about Pinto!

Yeah, Gambrell can probably go then.

In the 10.5 million group, 7 guys , you need to replace some of them, with another contract.
But, ya there isn’t much left to go around, in a couple of years.

Possible buyouts of White and Murray open up another load of cap. Murray Would be 5 million cap alone + 5 million in cash savings. White would be 4 million cap and 10 million in cash savings.

Team could absolutely be looking in that direction this summer.

I’d be surprised if Gambrell or Gaudette were back next year. Paul is a great player to have in the bottom 6, but I’m not paying him 3 million a year, that’s the time you walk away and grab guys for 1 million as a free agent.

It's always the same people in here lambasting the team for not maxing out spending today while ignoring the incoming spending crunch coming up with all the talent exiting ELCs.

It's always the same people in here lambasting the owner & GM for doing boring interviews while simultaneously lambasting them for making poorly worded comments in others.

It's always the same people in here lambasting the team for being near the bottom of the standings while ignoring all the circumstances that lead to that position and being indifferent to 2 months of good play from the roster.

Ie. It's always the same people complaining regardless of what is actually happening.

Who cares? Stop responding to them and let them shout into the ether about how terrible their fan experience is.

It looked like an absolute certainty until about a week and a half to 2 weeks ago.

I hope they don't trade away their 1st OA given it could be another top 10 pick, that would be stupid IMO. They have the assets to go after another 1st rd pick which they should be looking at. They can add pieces at the deadline once they start to challenge for a playoff spot, now is not the time to give away 1st rd picks especially in the top 10.

I know they have added first round picks by trading players, have added a pick to move up higher in the draft. Have they ever traded a picks and/or prospects for another first? I can't remember. Pumpel draft maybe?

Looking at performance over small timeframes and cherry picking positive statistics is what got us here in the first place. If the team take 2 months of whatever White brings when he is back and the best 10 games Murray plays and extrapolates that to them being worth their contracts instead of buying them out ... we get what we deserve in 2022/3.

Buying out Murray also means replacing Murray so that eats away at some of the savings. A Murray buyout would also be problematic in 2024/25 and 2025/26 where his 2.5M dead cap hit and 2.5M cash payouts might have real implications, assuming we are trying to contend. Probably best to just let the his contract age out.

I don't recall, but Buff & Arz have late rd firsts & depending on what they want could be a possibility. I'm sure someone will come up with examples of teans moving into the late first rd.

uh? we are in good shape cap wise to spend right now even with all the terrible contracts that Dorion has given

We can’t go with Gus and $1.0 goalie … a Murray buyout plus the next goalie trade or signing of a competent starter probably costs us more than Murray.

If Dorion needs to free up $3-4 mill the easy answer is White.

Gus hasn’t been great lately, no chance we roll into next season with him starting, or even backing up Forsberg, who is a backup himself.

If this is Matt Murray, no chance we buy him out, that’s just asking to have a shit season next year because of inadequate goaltending….

Again.

But this time it won’t be because of Murray’s injuries, it will be because the GM finally made a rebuild stunting move. Should actually make a bunch of ‘fans’ in here happy to be honest.

Not really - EM is probably losing 2-3x what he anticipated this year with bottom of the league attendance followed by ~10 games of no revenue. No idea how he reconciles that loss.

Assuming Dorion resigns all the RFA’s we look pretty close to EM’s internal budget limit unless we can shuffle Z or CW elsewhere or he has planned to increase spending/untie revenue and spending etc.
