If he was recommended by the league then it's the first I've heard of it, and I can't find any reference to it anywhere online. Doesn't make a ton of sense to me - why would the league recommend a lawyer with no hockey executive experience? Surely they would want an experienced executive to help settle a tumultuous front office?
Just seems suspicious that another front office person is leaving in the immediate wake of Melnyk's passing. Especially considering that this is most likely a step backward in his career.
I can't find anything on it either but strangely that's how I remember it. But he had a lot of hockey experience prior to the Sens. He worked for CAA hockey which is Pat Brisson and J.P. Barry's agency doing agent/contract work. He was a good hire. Same work, different side of the table.
Barry said this when he was hired
“Peter will be an excellent hire for the Senators,” said Barry in a statement to this newspaper. “He brings so many important elements to this position. He’s always extremely prepared and thorough.
“Peter understands both the scouting side and the business side of hockey and he does all this with character and integrity. We wish him the best in his future role.”
It was a few years back when he was hired. He was definitely recommended to Ottawa for the role he moved into, I cannot remember by who. Thought it was the league. Maybe I heard someone like a Friedman say that in an intermission around the hire date.
