TRADES
The Montreal Canadiens have made two very important trades for the franchise prior to the draft.
In a blockbuster trade, we have traded goaltender Carey Price, defensemen Jaroslav Spacek and Yannick Weber, along with our 2010 2nd round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forwards Ryan Malone and Steve Downie, and Tampa Bay 2010 1st round pick.
We are ecstastic with those acquisitions. Malone and Downie are both very talented and they also bring size and grit to our group of forwards. We feel that it was an important need heading in the offseason. We also got the 9th overall pick in the trade and he feel that we will be able to get a great young player with this pick.
In the other trade, we have traded forward Andrei Kostitsyn to the Florida Panthers for forward Shawn Matthias.
This move was very tough to make since we all know the high potential of Kostitsyn. However, his lack of consistency was a big problem in his game and we feel that we had to go in a different direction. He will also benefit from a change of scenery. Like Malone and Downie, Matthias brings size to our group of forwards. He will likely start the season on the 4th line but if everything is going well, the plan is to have him on the 3rd line at some point between Sergei Kostitsyn and Steve Downie. We feel that this line could be a dominant 3rd line for years to come.

We would like to wish Price, Spacek, Weber and Kostitsyn the best of luck with their new team.
While we will miss what we lost, Tampa is looking to rebuild and freeing up Downie's 6-million a year contract gives us more room. We feel Price can be our franchise goalie for years to come, Spacek is a solid D-man, and Weber is going to be a very solid D-Man for years to come.
To anyone else, Tampa is looking to rebuild, only Stamkos and Hedman (and now Price) are untouchable. St. Louis, Lecavilier, and Smith are our top priorities to move.
I guess that you're talking about Malone? And his cap hit is 4.5M$ per and not 6M$ per.

Whoever is running the Rangers should be drawn and quartered.and have reached a deal.
To -RW Ryan Callahan, NYR 2nd 10
To -rights to LW Alex Frolov, LA 3rd 10
LA is thrilled to add a character player like Ryan. He provides great leadership, offense, and defense for our team. He is a premier penalty killer in the NHL, and will hit anything that moves. We feel like he will be a great character addition to our 3rd line.
We are still looking to move Jarret Stoll.
