Whitney, Goligoski, Gonchar, Robidas and Daley available. Looking to completely overhaul my blueline and maybe add a top 6 forward. Interested in prospects as well.

Habs deal Plekanec to Anaheim, acquire Rackell, Theodore, Allen, Pick

34186-tomas-plekanec.jpg

The Montreal Canadiens made a move towards brightening their future but darkening their playoff chances this season, trading centreman Tomas Plekanec, along with the clubs 3rd round selection in the upcoming 2014 NHL Entry Draft to the Anaheim Ducks.

"The Ducks reached out to us with interest in Tomas, as several teams did, and we took a few minutes to assess what was being offered. When we saw the assets that Anaheim was willing to discuss, we felt it in our best interests to close this deal." Habs GM TribalPhoenix stated in a press conference at La Cage Au Sports today.

In return for Plekanec and the 3rd round pick, the Habs receive blue chip prospects Rickard Rackell and Shea Theodore, as well as defenceman Bryan Allen. Montreal will also receive Anaheim's 1st round selection in the upcoming Entry Draft.

"In Rickard and Shea we believe we have two very solid prospects who present great assets in our future, while another 1st round selection is something that will always be of value. In Bryan Allen, we get a gritty defenceman who will serve as good depth as we continue to move forward with our club."

:sharks :edmonton Trade

To Edmonton:
Brad Stuart
Adam Burish

To San Jose:
San Jose's 4th (acquired in the Mike Brown deal)

Brad Stuart provides an ideal partner for our Justin Schultz, as he is very solid in his own zone, physical, and skates well. He is a high-level penalty killer, and can play either side. Along with Ferrence, he will be critical as we help our young players become pros.

In Adam Burish we acquire a great penalty killer who will begin to give an identity to our 4th line. He is physical, fast, and willing to drop the mitts, while capable of playing a regular shift. We know he is overpriced.

The Avalanche have received some offers for Stastny and have one deal that we are pretty interested in. We are willing to retain 50% of his cap hit. Will be looking for some gritty forward prospects, and more importantly, will look to improve the D.

:amazed: Outstanding for Edmonton. Dunno why SJ would do that.

:ducks confirm.

Collectively our center depth behind Getzlaf was doing yeoman's work and we couldn't be more pleased with Perreault and Bonino's growth as players and consistent contributors to our success. But we weren't happy with our special teams and a top priority for us was to strengthen our position down the middle with a capable centermen and offensive catalyst for our second line. Tomas provides us with a veteran Top-6 center who can has been a stable cornerstone piece on both special teams units and an exceptional pivot for wingers Jakub Silfverberg and Teemu Selanne.

If anyone's interested, I'll deal Mark Fistric (900k, UFA) for a LW prospect.

:panthers UPDATE

ON THE TRADE BLOCK :
Tim Thomas (NMC) *could retain salary
Scottie Upshall (LNTC)
Tomas Kopecky
Sean Bergenheim
Ed Jovanovski
Mike Weaver
Ryan Whitney

*Can take on cap dumps in trades as long as it is an expiring contract.

Not looking to deal anyone else unless a huge overpayment. Also, I'm not moving recently acquired players.

Won't be around very often until the trade deadline on Thursday night so if you want to discuss trades, you might want to start the discussions ASAP.

PM!

Looking for an upgrade at the bottom-6 LW position. Would have to deal UFA contract (probably Winnik) + prospect/pick. Also would do a Sbisa for LW swap.

Would consider something substantial and deal Gibson + OTT 1st for a significant roster piece with term.

Sharks have minimal cap space, and moving 5.4m gives them a ton of flexibility they do not have from a cap perspective.

I actually think Burish would be a really good pick up for the Oilers. Multiple positions, good on face-offs, physical, fast, good on the pk, has won a cup.

Dingdingding. Burish isn't a player we want on the roster in the post-season, and Stuart, while serviceable, I don't feel comfortable putting out with Dan Boyle for big minutes. This frees up space for the Callahan trade + to bring in a big minute defenseman.

:sharks

Willing to package Kennedy or Havlat with a 2nd/3rd or a prospect like Irwin/Tennyson to acquire a LH Top 4 blueliner.

We have a trade to announce!

[fieldset=TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT]

:hawks

Paul Stastny (50% retained)

:avs

Ryan Hartman
Mark McNeil

It's a steep price to pay, and in the long run we could really regret this deal. But considering how dry the market is, especially for top 6 centers, and the strength of our prospect pool, we were comfortable paying the price.

We are thrilled to add in a tremendous player in Paul Stastny. He is an excellent fit on our second line where his playmaking, and 2-way ability will mesh nicely alongside Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa. We will certainly attempt to sign him after our playoff run.

It was a difficult decision to make as the team is doing so well a the moment. However, we were unable to negotiate a new contract with Paul, and decided that it would be best to acquire assets that would be in the clubs control for the future.

We believe that both these players will fit in wonderfully with the Avalanche. In Hartman, you have a heart and soul player that also has offensive and defensive talent. McNeill has had a great start to his AHL career.

-Legwand still OTB for teams looking for a rental second line center.
-Shea Weber remains OTB but it looks like won't be moved at this point.
-Kevin Klein on the block for a youngish top 6 forward.
