Not really in this argument. But didn't Julien BriseBois get a pretty good gig right away in Tampa? I would say definitely a better situation than what Dubas walked into.
I don’t think there was a ranking, just that he walked into a good situation. I’d agree that Tampa was a better situation

I think you're hugely overstating the problems. The team finished tied for 5th overall and the budding superstars at the core had yet to enter their prime. That collection of young talent was the envy of most teams in the league, most GM's would love to have that kind of talent to work with never mind rookie GMs.

OK that's one. Is there anyone else or did Dubas step into the second best situation of any rookie GM in NHL history?

I think it's really hard to argue that the situation Dubas took over wasn't incredibly attractive. Matthews, Marner and Nylander all not even in their prime yet, 5th overall ...
Brisbrois took of a team that was and is stacked.

the first point is silly. Dubas signed the stars as RFAs. Meaning they were in the system.

in terms of culture, debate all you want.

what we know is that Shanahan had every resource available to him including a money truck and he went after Lou and Babcock specifically.

he played for them. He knew what he wanted. That is no coincidence.

And thanks to Rick Westhead at TSN, we know that a Leafs exec went to Toronto Police to discuss cocaine use around the team in 2015.

from these things we can conclude with both logic and confidence that creating a culture that was conducive to development was Shanahan’s priority early on.
We can only conclude this if it was a Toronto Maple Leafs thing, but it was a League thing that Westehead reported on. It did include the Leafs. Loov told the press in Sweden that there was a lot of cocaine in the League. NHL acknowledges more players using cocaine - TSN.ca

You have.

You have attacked and mocked me personally - multiple times - for valuing a good performance against an elite playoffs opponent over a playoffs win against a bad opponent.

You specifically mocked any notion of quality of opponent mattering more than wins when the leafs didn't win, and now are already dismissing a potential playoffs win due to opponent quality.

I'm not having trouble with this. That's you.

You literally posted that he jumped into the best situation any GM ever has. Just a few posts ago. Seems like the real issue here is you don't remember anything you post.

Not a single lie. At least not by me.

I didn't say you claimed that. I said that was the claim I quoted and responded to, and which you then jumped in on.

Again, the claim was that he was gifted a good starting goalie. I responded to that by noting he only inherited a goalie that was decent for part of the first year and then fell apart. Then you jumped in with your usual dishonesty.

You often claim I've posted stuff I've never posted, that's lying. When I catch you doing it I challenge you to find one post where I've said whatever, you're never able to. The simple reason is that you're constantly lying.

You say "literally" but I didn't say what you claim I said. And that's what you do, instead of quoting me so there's no BS, you either lie or you twist my words around. What a waste of time, do you really have nothing better to do then lies and strawman arguments?

Here's my original quote, note the bolded parts in case you missed them the first time around. If you understand English then you also know that I didn't "literally" say that Dubas "jumped into the best situation any GM ever has", I was guessing that perhaps he had but also with the qualifier "first job as GM". You either don't understand English or you're lying, simple as that.

I think he's done a good job but I'm also guessing that no GM in NHL history has ever had that good a situation for his first job as GM. Matthews, Marner, Nylander at ages 20-21 and a team that just finished 6th overall, looks pretty dreamy to me.

Brisbrois took of a team that was and is stacked.

Good point, you got me. My main point still is and was that Dubas stepped into a very good situation with the Leafs. A team with a number of young budding superstars coming off an excellent season is why they were widely viewed as a young team on the rise.

it was more than that. It was a specific instance related to the Leafs:

“Last season, a senior Maple Leafs team executive met with Toronto Police Service officers to address concerns that Leafs players were purportedly using cocaine or were associating with those who were, according to two people familiar with the matter.

A Maple Leafs spokesperson declined to comment.”

Yes, that was the Leafs team, but it was all fall out from Stoll.

Before the game I saw a clip of Keefe being interviewed and Simmons asking Keefe about why Nylander gets so little ice time - attaboy Steve, good question! In this response Keefe rambled on and his answer came down to the line ... the line ... Nylander doesn't play on the line.

Really? Nylander doesn't play on the top line, that's your answer? He's not on the top line and that means that you as the coach can't find a way to get your most effective player a few more minutes, are you for real?

Last night again, Nylander's ice time 17:01, Marner got 24:28. Time to get your head out of your ass Sheldon.

Imagine if a foligno, nicholas walked in game 6. That would be some thuggish ruggish bone right thurrrr sire.

Imagine, if a Johnny Capitano Tavaress walked in game 7 (if necessary). Nothing is impossible. NOTHIN. TAVARES, JOHNNY IS BECOMING A REAL HARD LEGEND. LIKE YZERMAN (played fully injured during 1998 finals vs capitals), messier, grezky....... mayne that man is hezard.

Keefe's directly to blame for the Sandin decision, when the team wins a 4-0 game you decide the defense needs to change? Seriously? Also I blame him for not utilizing Nylander with Matthews more, but Keefe's hard-on for Marner won't let that happen

If you're in a series clincher possible game, and your team comes out flat and goes down 3-0 how much of that is on the coach, his preparation and coaching decisions?

This could have been a defining moment for this team to come out, put the pedal down and dominate and eliminate an underdog opponent you have on the ropes, and send a message to the other teams you're a series contender and tough out.

Coaching takes blame because the two players, Sandin and Thornton, who most contributed to being down 3-0 were at best questionable decisions to be in the lineup, and at worst completely asinine decisions.

Even worse in game 5 :help:

Yup. Not a fan right now. Could make the argument that the series would already be finished if not for Sandin. Now the Leafs have to go to Montreal where they'll be playing in front of fans for the first time in over a year. Thinking this is going to 7.

Yeah I've had it with Thornton, enough already FFS.

Time to start doing some coaching Keefe.

This has been waaaay overstated, like 2500 fans is gonna make a difference either way

If anything, the 2500 fans will just add extra pressure on the Habs.

Dermott will draw back in, hopefully Foligno will return and Campbell will have a bounce back game. This isn’t going to game 7.
