Well, you're not as confused as he is.

I'm really hot for Kapanen if that's what Toronto wants to give. They need a D who plays the left too right? Simmer and Hagg for Kapanen, make them throw in a 2nd-rounder so they feel like we're doing a firesale trade instead of straight up improving the team.

Kapanen's a gem.

Maybe it's just nostalgia (I havent watched a lot of young Kap) but I would like to have him. SImmer probably holds interest for a team like Toronto and their playoff push. Hagg serves a need. Maybe ...

They'll never catch me on tape!

I don't have any angst about Hakstol departing, I just don't think he was the disaster he'd been made out to be (excluding the last few weeks when the team deep sixed) and I don't think he hurt this franchise (no prospect has flopped, no veteran has gone AWOL). This was a transition year in any case, and in a sense, the meltdown makes the transition easier.

But if Hakstol isn't the primary problem with this team, Gordon (or eventually Q or Keefe) won't be the solution.

So I expect Fletcher to make major changes at some point, more than just dumping scrubs who don't get serious PT. Replacing Weise with NAK or Varone with Vorobyev won't move the needle, Lehtera is benched again, Myers is 2-3 years from being an impact player who'll be a big upgrade from MacDonald/Hagg, etc.

Next year will be the 5th coach in 8 years - at some point you have to change the players.
The rest of this season for Fletcher is deciding which players.

Well, he probably doesn't even know what he's going to do yet.
I'm sure he talked to everyone, but the poor man has had two weeks to evaluate the team and the farm system!-

I wonder if this guy keeps getting calls about how Lappy is respected around the league too. Dudes invincible.

Do we even know if Fletcher is alive?

I think for a little while there, the idea may have been to make a move to help the team get back into contention. The strategy should now be to sell off any UFA’s and acquire long term fits so it’s not shocking things have gone quiet.

Yeah, at this point there isn't much he can do anyway. Unless he decides the core needs an overhaul.

Honestly, it wont take much for him to be tolerable until next season.

If he trades Simmonds and brings up Myers at some point I'll consider the rest of this season a success.

Then in the offseason he needs to not f*** up the draft and, obviously, find a real coaching staff.

Has anyone SEEN Chuck Fletcher? Does he exist?

I'm actually glad he didn't get rushed into doing something stupid like trading something valuable for a crappy goalie to 'save the season' or trading a kid when the vets are spoiling the bed.

The season is over. Playoff odds 0.2%

Philadelphia Flyers Playoff Chances - Sports Club Stats

The rest of the season is about youth development and recouping assets for whatever he can get.

For Sale:
Simmonds - price will depend on partner.
Macdonald - if we eat salary, we might find a sucker.
Gudas - for the right price, but he could stay.
Weise - someone might be dumb enough to give us futures for him, or a 5th pick if we eat half his salary.
JVR - not sure if anyone needs a PP specialist that much, but I'd eat some of his salary to move on from his slacking.
Voracek - probably not worth trading right now. He's great every other year, and that was last year.
Elliott and Neuvirth are available if they can get healthy in time. Holding breath...1..2..3..
Folin - for a 7th?

To be waived:
Lehtera, Weal, McKenna (eventually).

Call ups:

Myers, Friedman, Vorobyev, Aube-Kubel, Leier, Bardreau, Lyon/Stolarz. Edit: Forgot to add Morin and Vecchione.

Let's see if some of these kids can play at the NHL level now, to get ready for next year.

Agreed. Sending Farmer away is probably wishful thinking at this point, despite how painfully necessary to anyone with eyes.

I really hope they offer Panarin a big contract. He'd help so much.

Oh, and punch Holmgren in his old, dinosaur balls.

Fletcher probably has his best chance of maximizing trade return by waiting until near the deadline. There's no reason to force a trade earlier just for the sake of it.

Stop making excuses for Fletcher. He's a miserable failure.

How many goddamn hockey guys are we going to go through before one of them figures out MacDonald is awful and that we need to get Myers' career going? He couldn't find a competent coach. He couldn't fire the most fireable assistants in the league. Hasn't improved the roster one iota.

f*** Fletcher in his stupid f***ing face.
