Quick's always on a fine line. Physically, when he's under control, nothing gets by him. Then when he's putting himself out of position, he can look bad. When he picks his spots, it can work. When he takes a flat out stupid penalty with the team down by 1 with 2 minutes left, it's just dumb. You wonder what he's thinking in those instances. I get being frustrated, but there was a chance to tie it up. It's one regular season game in October, so whatever, but don't give the refs a reason to do that. Just a pointless penalty to take.

Not that it matters too much. The rest of the team wasn't into the game either. Not much fight. Ok, refs missed some calls, but they didn't force the refs to call anything in their favor either. Too much reaching with the sticks, not enough moving the feet, a lot of one off shots on net, no sustained pressure. Play through the refs.

Pearson has an EN goal, and Toffoli has the late goal in the Flyers game with the Flyers pressing, and a PP goal. Not enough at ES from either guy. Carter wasn't doing much either, but Toffoli and Pearson aren't going to carry a line. Shore has to bring more, or they need to do something else at center.

Pearson/Iaffalo/Toffoli, just about the only thing Kings can try.

No reason for the back ref who was 140 feet away to call that in a 1 goal game. The action ref who was right in front didn't even care.

yet another example how the 2 refs on the ice has been a total failure.

they should put one ref in a replay box at ice level to do video review, and to tell the ref on the ice about obvious penalties that were missed.

hate to break up the first line though

Well a line has to be broken up to get Center depth back. I would hate to move Kempe off wing. Kempe really is a Winger, it's where he has had the most success so far in his career.

ah finally grew the sack to show up once the game is over and you don't have to worry about potentially eating your words

they really do grow em different in ontario

maybe hop on your main account next time

After 25 years the rip van winkles are finally awake. Yawn.

Any more trolling by locals or visitors will result in temp bans. This is garbage.

Guess we've arrived now that we're getting visitors again, but let the mods handle it.

1 goal loss on the road against the top East team? Not bad. Could have been worse with the homer calls by the refs.

Ya think, again for a team to have success, any team, you beat the teams you are supposed to beat and play competitive against the top of the league.
Jackets are top of the league, win, Leafs this year appear to be the top of the league a 1 goal loss.

Given no Carter I am okay with it. Even with Carter I would have been okay with it.

any leaf fans that had a drivers licence when they last won a cup and now retired If you were under 10 you weren't a fan odds are your a follower of a family member/ It been a generation Since they won

Quick does that kind of play on a regular basis to try and gain space for the forwards to break out of the zone. It looked worse than it actually was because Komarov was off balance and the leafs in that section went beserk. Absolutely no reason the back ref should call that penalty with 2 minutes left in a 1 goal game.

Just an overly frustrating game, but you can't win them all. I think with all things considered with how badly this team missed carter tonight and all the officiating issues I thought they did alright. I'll have to work on my next GDT sometime tonight so I'll have that to look forward too.

That's fine. Move Kempe to Kopitar's wing, move Shore down. I like Kempe's aggressiveness. He's in there. Not a wallflower. Or Kempe/Iafallo/Toffoli. Something to wake Pearson and Toffoli up. Or move Cammalleri around. Dowd, although Stevens isn't playing him at C, or playing him at all when he's dressed. Something, because Shore doesn't seem to be the guy.

I was fine with some of the calls, I'm more miffed that they often let something go down at the other end only to call a King instead. Kempe trip? Dudes waterskiing Kopitar? no problem. Random push by Quick? better get it.

That second ref was getting intimidated by the crowd and it showed. It was a lot like previous years where we were actually carrying a lot of the 5v5 play and couldn't buy a call only to get a call against on the first time a team exited their own zone.

I think what really showed was that one penalty where the Leafs player complained and got the penalty. So unprofessional. Never seen a ref give a penalty because a player told them to. Even Faust said he's never seen something like that happen.

Can't win them all. Kings played well, just had some unfortunate things go against them tonight.

I guess the most disappointing thing has been the play of Toffoli and Pearson, they are 25 years old now, they should be able to produce more even when Carter is out.

Overall, pretty pleased. It took some iffy calls, massive traffic, and a really nice deflection to beat the Kings tonight.

Credit Toronto, they played solid defensively and generated chances, and are one of the better teams in the East. The Kings went into their barn and had a chance to come away with a point, can't really ask much more than that given they are adjusting to losing a 1B center.

No reason for Quick to do it either. Want to make the guy have to go around you a bit more, ok, but don't stick your arm out. Just poorly timed. Any room the Kings get isn't that big of an advantage at that point. Like you said, Komoarov was off balance anyway. An unnecessary play.

Random but curious, I know theres athletes who use certain type of steroid for their muscle to heal quicker. Is that legal in the NHL? Just wondering since it's not gonna change your performance, just how quickly you'd heal. Or do they count that as a ped?

The issue with splitting up the lines is how well the 1st and 3rd lines have played.

Cammalleri-Kempe-Lewis is probably the best third line the Kings have had since the 2014 cup season. Lots of speed with Kempe, grit with Lewis and a player in Cammy who can finish if given room.
