how can you forget generational Bobby Holik at $9m?
Because it's ancient history and there was no salary cap during Holik's contract.

I would agree we know the answer to the question, "Are the Kings a better team with or without Kopitar?"Are the Kings closer to contending for a Cup with or without Kopitar? I think we know the answer to that question.
"
FWIW PIT last year had Malkin at 15.17%, Crosby at 13.89%, AND Kessel at 10.86%. They won a Cup. Kopitar is currently at 13.55%--I'll take it for the years of healthy consistent production vs. the volatility of those mentioned.
Check your math. Last year Crosby 11.9%, Malkin 13%, and Kessel 9.3%.
Take their cap hits and divide by $73M. Last year Kopitar's cap hit was 13.7% of the $73M salary cap.
I responded to a cheap comment with facts. Always do.Ah yes, Kopitar's contract talk. Sure have missed this.
Becasue the lumber he laid on the back of Phaneuf's leg kept him from getting to the crease and clearing out that fool before he scored.Nothing against McKinnon, great player, but I do wonder why he received an assist on the first goal.
In other news, this bozo didn't even list Kopi in the top 5 for Hart. Article is from this morning...

I would agree we know the answer to the question, "Are the Kings a better team with or without Kopitar?"
They are no closer to contending for a cup with Kopitar this season than they were last season, and Kopitar is having a great season.
I will be happy to be wrong if Kopitar puts the team on his back and pulls off a miracle in this season.
So what's the difference between Malkin's contract and Kopitar's? 0.7%? Under your argument, there's basically only three people with a Kopitar-type deal. Kopitar, Kane, and Toews. What's the point of saying "Get back to me when a team with those types of contracts wins a cup" when that only applies to one team?Check your math. Last year Crosby 11.9%, Malkin 13%, and Kessel 9.3%.

Except for this season Malkin has been a better player on a consistent basis. Malkin demonstrated early in his career he is a generational talent and has for the most part maintained that level of performance. That's the big difference between Kopitar and Malkin. So what's the difference between Malkin's contract and Kopitar's? 0.7%? Just admit the fact that Malkin proved you wrong and move on.
Kopitar puts the team on his back, has a career night and scores 4 goals in a game for the Kings for the first time in over 25 years, against a team we're fighting for a playoff spot with in the last few weeks of the season, and we're back to the tired arguing about his contract? Again?
Oooooook.
Since we're telling each other what to do, this is the GDT. Stay on topic. Then don't join the conversation or read the posts.
For a game that is over. I responded to a post in the GDT which was made following the game.Since we're telling each other what to do, this is the GDT. Stay on topic.
