That's not the way goal scoring works. Kopitar is highly selective about his shots. He's not Ovechkin. There's a difference between a cerebral player like Kopitar and an Andreoff. When Brown fed Kopitar last night in front of the net, he didn't shoot off the pass and instead deked the pants off Varlomov. When Kopitar had a chance to shoot the puck on the power play, he elected to pass the puck to a partially open Brown in front of the net. Eventually he scored both times, but he elected to shoot when the net was open.

Everybody screams at Kopitar to shoot more like broken record. What fans don't know is that great players like Kopitar are three moves ahead of us fans. He's thinking and playing at a different level than us fans. That's part of what makes him great. That's what separates the Thorntons, the Crosbys, and the Kopitars from the Andreoffs, Cliffords, and Brodzinskis. It's not like Kopitar is that much faster than Clifford or has a harder shot than Brodzinski, it's that he thinks the game of hockey differently than them. Puts himself in the right position, knows where his teammates are , knows what the opponents are going to do, and takes advantage of his raw talent using his skills.

Who said that’s how goal scorings works? It was a hypothetical, an interesting thought. Not a suggestion that he should do as such.

I think the last Kopitar contract negotiation was a missed opportunity to reset the table and build around Doughty. Based on Doughty's behavior this season and his comments regarding his unwillingness to go through another rebuild (which he certainly didn't suffer through for long), I am beginning to have doubts about whether or not Doughty will stick around.

I also thought Doughty would continue to grow into a leadership role and gain maturity, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I think the Kings made the right choice in keeping Kopitar knowing Doughty's contract will be coming a few years after. A #1 center beats a #1 dman anytime. Regardless of how this year turns out, Blake HAS to look into the possibility of trading Doughty this summer when he can extract max value.

I was responding to a poster that said if Kopitar shot this many more shots, he'd have this many more goals. I mean, it's just that easy, right?

That was me. Clearly thought experiments annoy you and I know where this rabbit hole's gonna go down, but screw it, why not.

Why would it be unrealistic for Kopitar to not be 4th/3rd in the league for goals and points if he took an additional 76 shots to make up the difference to Kucherov? 1/2 his current shooting percentage is below the league average. That average is below Dustin Brown's current shooting percentage. If Kopitar goes full tard (worse shot decision making than Dustin Brown, and worse shooting percentage at 8.95%) for those additional 76 shots, you don't think he'd pot an additional 6.8 goals?

Not annoyed. You know what bothers me on this board? When posters get all worked up about who's smarter than who and we get three pages of back and forth. It's fine if you think Kopitar could be a 40 goal scorer. I think it too. I just don't think that's his style.
