Post-Game Talk: [GM 67] Canucks lose to Hockey Clubbers | 1-3 | Hughes | Just No Juice

Utah PK
  • There penalty killers are very aggressive up top and Tocchet immediately points out that the counter to this is to go down low and set up 2-on-1 or 3-on-; calls it “plain as day”
  • Coaching staff is a little frustrated because they have been telling the players that if you go hard up high, then the puck has to go low, and you have to make a play
  • Says the coaches are a little bummed out about it

When Hughes was out, there were times where I felt like the PP was actually moving the puck around well, and this suggests to me that a lot of guys on that first unit are simply deferring to Hughes (hence they're not going low). Or maybe we have a bunch of really stupid hockey players.

Hughes playing LITERALLY half the game

Come on Tochett
Always good to ruin the health of your best players in pursuit of . . . mediocrity purgatory, where the team neither makes the playoffs nor drafts in the top 5 or so

And by always good, I mean something else. I have to speak in code to throw the astroturfers and shills off my scent

And by scent, I mean stench

When you're gifted six minutes of PP time in the third period; but can't generate anything, well that's all she wrote.

Utah now owns the season series against the Canucks at 3-0-1. Throw out the Chicago game, and the Canucks are one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL since the changeover in the calendar year.

You can probably chisel that into their epitaph for the season.

in all seriousness, why don’t we just play the trap? Like if we are gonna be an all defense team anyway and can’t score, might as well just embrace it. This like half way in between systems every game hurts me.

That's it for me. See you all next season. Not going to invest anymore time into this season. On ice product is not entertaining. Cheers
Bye.

Very frustrating game.

A rare one that I was at.

I really kind of felt we were in trouble given that it was a back to back against a quick team and we then lost one of our two fastest forwards.
It also felt like O'Connor got almost no ice-time.

Brock is, unfortunately, a complete liability out there. Every time the puck is sent near him he looks like a guy sleeping leaning on his mop and suddenly jolting and going, "I'm awake!"

There wasn't much to love from anyone out there.

Though I will say, missing a top 6er and in the second half of a back-to-back, our defensive play was mostly really solid. We didn't give Utah much at all. But they scored on their chances.

That late 4 minute pp was frustrating. Nobody took charge.

I was really confused by the lack of net presence. There were a couple of times where a guy up high (D or Petey) took and both wingers were flared out to the sides for down low options. Like, someone has to go to the f***ing net.

Either way, the good news is with 15 games left we get to have more mood swings. It's a fun time even if we're a worn out and undermanned team.

I do worry about the fact that we play Vegas x2, Dallas, and the Avs in the last 6 games.

St Louis is coming on strong.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota falls out and there are two spots up for grabs.

Chytil
  • Weakens the centre position with him out
  • Is a speedy guy
AI-generated Chytil description.
It's a B2B with no travel. No real excuse. They go home after yesterday's game, normal routine, etc.

Their problem today wasn't their "legs". It's what's plagued them for most of the Tocchett era: They are physically incapable of creating shots or scoring chances with any regularity.
Playing NHL hockey twice in less than 24 hours against a team that has not played NHL hockey twice in less than 24 hours is challenging. Team sucked but no need to downplay it.

Wow! Flyers and the Penguins both have more goals scored than the Canucks this year
