GDT: GM#57 LA Kings vs Pittsburgh Penguins @4:00

Goalie is pulled so the forwards are primarily worried about being in a position to go the other way to try and score. Puck rolls out of the corner on the missed shot, d-man and Brown skate over to it to try and get it, Pen gets there first and gets it over to Malkin eventually.

If the goalie is in the net, Doughty is covering Malkin instead. Kudos to Doughty for trying to play goalie, but I'm not going to eviscerate the rest of the team because a forward didn't come down from his position to cover Doughty's guy because he's playing goalie: it's an unnatural situation.

I'll be the first guy to call out a lack of effort as well but I can't get behind the thought process that the team quit on the ENG. I love that Doughty is passionate, but that was a lot of "look at me" with that tantrum.

This is too often the case.

By your own personal metric for leadership, do you think he's a good one by your standard
I don't know, I'm not a Duck fan or do I watch Anaheim play unless it's against the Kings.Duck fans seem to like him.He seems to be a thorn in our side each time he is healthy and playing.

Hopefully you will see how ungrateful you are being if Doughty decides to leave and then this team becomes a lottery team. I know for a fact that if our workhorse leaves every single person *****ing about him would rue the day he's gone.
Depends on what Blake gets for Doughty, if Doughty decides to go. It's going to be up to Doughty, not some random fan.

If the Kings miss the playoffs that would be 1 playoff win since winning the cup in 2014.

I believe the only teams with fewer in that time are Winnipeg, Colorado, Buffalo and New Jersey.

If they are going to commit to the star players then the secondary guys are the problem and need to be moved. If they miss the playoffs again then a good amount by from the group of Toffoli, Pearson, Martinez, Muzzin, Lewis, Clifford, Andreoff have to be gone and replaced.

We are like a worse version of the old Sharks teams who kept trying to win with Thornton and Marleau and just brought everyone back to get beaten by LA, Chicago or Vancouver over and over. Would much rather go through a rebuild than continue to scoreboard watch garbage teams like Calgary, Minnesota and Dallas.

Wow what an unreal statement. Kings don't win 1 cup without Doughty. You bet your ass if you want the Kings to have a chance to win the cup.. A CHANCE... In the next few years your only chance is with number 8 on defense.

If you say **** like this, good luck landing another franchise defenseman in the lottery In 15 + years
Oh, did the Kings have a legit chance the last 4 years? I must have missed that.

Well at lease Kings won't be alone.

I watch the Ducks, and im sure you see some of their games, Getzlaf is ten times the baby of any player on this team. Bitches nonstop and whines. And gets visibly mad at his team mates at times.

Ducks play a thousand times better with him in And play better with him in. all the team mates seem to have nothing but great things to say about him .

Point being you can bitch a ton and hold your team mates accountable all while being a great leader.

Your issue with Doughty is his personality, you try to justify your strong dislike of his personality by saying it makes him a poor leader.

He can be a good leader and still not like his personality.

Just like Messier, well documented low life of a human being, but considered a great leader by many.

If similar accounts about doughty come up I'll reconsider.

f*** Messier lol.

Ok some people look down on leaders who point fingers and some don't.Ive never in my sports days like that type of behavior. So if Getlaf does indeed yell and point fingers at his fellow teammates then that's unfortunate.I lose respect for those who do selfish leadership like that. Its one thing to fire up a team it's another to point fingers. The point is Doughty can't point fingers, his behavior is embarrassing on the ice.He needs to start scoring more cause that's what's killing this team. When Doughty is scoring this team does so much better.

As a Pens fan based in SoCal who has been watching Doughty since his rookie year. Guy is a god and I don’t see how any LA Kings fan could be mad at him. He is probably the most consistent defenseman in the league.

Oh no! He got angry on the ice!

So does every great..

Go watch Malkin and Crosby when things aren’t going their way some night.

You definitely do have to be a bit of an asshole to be a good leader. Now I'm not saying be a full on dick but you can't be afraid to call out teammates for whatever reason. Doughty is a whiner and a baby but he gives 100% every shift and has earned the right to call out teammates. Privately would be best but he's earned the right.

It's not even about this game.

1-3 against SJ, and SJ is 3-1. So 2 points vs. 6 points.
1-1-1 against Calgary, and Calgary is 2-0-1. So 3 points vs. 5 points.
2-2 against Anaheim, and Anaheim is 2-0-2. So 4 points vs. 6 points.

SJ is up 5 points on the Kings for the year. Calgary 3 points. Anaheim 2 points. It's all right there. Head to head against direct competition, especially at home, that's where the problem is. Pittsburgh doesn't matter, Tampa doesn't matter, Carolina doesn't matter. 4-6-1 against these 3 division teams, while the 3 division teams are 7-1-3. That's what matters. 17 points to the Kings 9. There's your playoff spot.

I never questioned his talent, just his behavior and goal scoring.Everything else is great.I hope he excels at defending cause he can't score.

Dude. What do you think d-men do?

Doughty is 7th in d-man scoring (and he's been hovering around 3-5 all year). The only people in front of him are offensive specialists with pillowsoft deployment and minutes and/or fellow Norris contenders. Only guys with even remotely comparable use to Doughty are Subban and Hedman and I'd say they have a little bit more support/insulation around them wouldn't you?

That without even bothering getting into advanced stats and on-ice off-ice splits. Let's just make it simple and say the Kings are one of the best teams in the league with Drew on the ice and a lottery team without.

Stats do not always equal to wins and that's more important more than individual stats.Doughtys lack of scoring is hurting this team.

Thank you, exactly, I don't get the problem here.

His problem with drew is his perceived personality. But all he's done for this club has shown love hard work, determination. None of it would have happened without doughty.

Honestly, a lottery team without him.

Do you think Getzlaf is a bad captain?
He's a great player but he's not captain material. His complaints during games have a trickle-down effect on their roster and bitching about the refs not once but a few times in his career is a no bueno for me.

I get that part. That's fine. Different strokes for different folks and I get Drew is abrasive to both LA and outside fans. What I take issue with is questioning his performance as linked to that attitude as if he's not good enough to have that kind of attitude. That's a million shades of wrong. And suggesting 7 million is too much for his performance is laughable.

Jesus Christ, people are still bitching about Doughty breaking his stick in frustration? When I was on my break this thread was at like page 12. Surely there must've been something else about the game to bitch about.

Doughty is not on the team to score goals or put up huge points, period! He's not Karlsson or Burns or whatever dman of the month is leading in goals and assists. That is not his job. He has 7 points in the last 10 games, and several led to wins.

Doughty is the best defenseman in the league and has been for years. I’ve never backed down from that. Karlsson can eat a giant bowl of dicks. He’s a charmin soft prototypical euro player with tons of offensive skill and not much else. Karlsson will never, ever, ever win a championship outside of some Ray Bourque deal where he’s playing a depth role as a veteran.

With all that said, if the team is not going to compete, then Doughty SHOULD be moved. He’s coming up on a major contract that will take him to 36-37 years old. There’s no reason to keep him around for a rebuild when the assets he could bring in would greatly accelerate said rebuild.

Guys are trying to score with the goalie pulled, not be forwards skating down to the goal line because a defenseman is playing goalie.

"Twenty seconds". Can someone time it? That seems like hyperbole. All of you are reading too much into this play.

I don't necessarily care that he threw his tantrum, I just want him to channel that into something positive. If you think he slammed the stick solely because he feels like he busted his ass and everyone else gave up, you are being just as emotional as Doughty.

He sees the season slipping away. It's a three consecutive loss. They got robbed of a point in TB, got clowned in Carolina (Doughty especially) and now another one. He's frustrated.

So he shows it. Fine. Go back it up next game by taking over like we all know he can.

Problem is what is competing to Luc and Blake?
Do they think this is competing?
