Who was the player of the month for January?

He didn't look out of place or intimidated playing with Doughty. In fact, he looked more confident playing alongside a competent partner. Hopefully this is something he can build off of and cements himself as a regular in the D-rotation. The Kings badly need him and LaDue to start contributing, and both did that tonight.

It's the best I've seen him play since he came up and had a handful of really solid games. Things were clicking for him tonight.

just had to say this:

LOL @ Gravel's puckhandling on the 4min pp and then going to the bench with his head down in shame LOLLL damn that was good!!

i wondered if that trade soured the team even more after budai busted his ass for them and they made this stupid, pointless trade we nevered played well after this and i know there was multiple reasons why but i thought we screwed budai over and just wonder if the team did too

It was also so bizarre to see how often Sutter would throw under the bus. Seemed like he had something personal against him.

That acquisition was a sign of how out of touch Dean was and how he couldn't accept the reality of his team not being a playoff contender.

They will if Cernak pans out. He has started his first pro year at +24 in 44 games in the AHL, and he is a physical beast, RHD. It could turn out to be a horrible move by DL.

Not to mention the trade was made AFTER Quick came back. Not shortly after game 1... you know, when he was injured.

Not that Cernak is setting the world on fire, but just more mortgaging of the future for when the assets could be used more productively.

I bet if Dean was still GM, Bishop would be a King still.

Quick’s body is just banged up. I think DL wanted two good goalies he could platoon.

Bishop never looked that sharp to me. He is big tho.

Cernak seems like another Gravel or Forbort. I don’t mind him being dealt but it sucks that it was only for 8 games of Bishop.

I'm hoping it's that 'step forward' callup where the guy really gets it and everything clicks like we've seen with Pearson and Martinez. First callup is ok, some flashes--but after that it all comes together.

I think the true highlight on that 4 minute PP was Muzzin's pass to a Stars player, right at his own blueline.

That was about the only time last night I threw my remote because it looked like it was going to be one of those "Kings control whole game, point cannon at self" moments.

Back in 3rd in the Pacific. Lots of big road games coming up. Hope to see them come together.

I know that over time it's probably roughly equalized, but it's really bizarre to see over the last few years how bad/messy this team unravels at home while going on the road seems to pull them together. It's like they get too comfortable, get blown up, then go on the road and pull it together only to come home and shit the bed again.

Question for those of you who play hockey, is it hard to tell who's coming at you on the opposing team since there's no numbers on jerseys and pretty much everyone wears a visor? I assume it's even harder for goalies, right?

Didn't see a reply to this yet. I'm a goalie, but it's still not hard to tell because, believe or not, each player has their own unique ice "presence" - faces, skating style, the way they wear their sticks/equipment. Even if you've never seen a team or player before, it's something you pick up as quickly as warmups.

Hope they can string together a few more like that.

Very encouraging to come out of the break with that game as everyone played well, but I'm going to need more than one game as it takes two to tango and Dallas played some extremely uninspired hockey. That was a combo Kings playing great/Dallas crapping the bed, although some of that is due to the Kings play.

I feel if that game was at Staples last night, the Kings would have looked like Dallas. Good thing they started the first game out of the break on the road.

Kings are tough to beat when Kopitar plays like he did last night. He has so much skill that when he decides to be assertive and flash that skill, the offense really hums. This team needs the Team Slovenia Kopitar where he just puts them on his back and not Anze Perimetar.

I say play Kuemper while he is hot. Quick is still our number 1, but the guy came back from major surgery last year, has a "nagging injury" and has not played well for a few games now. When goalies get hot, they can help you stock pile points. Ride Kuemper for 3 more games, and then plug in Quick at some point.

Indeed, the Kings will go as far as Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick will carry them. If any of them are not at the top of their games it will be a short post season, or no post season.

It was nice to see Kuemper get a win and a shutout. The Kings haven't out shot an opponent by such a significant margin in quite some time. Zone time and corsi still do matter to a large degree with this roster. They aren't really built to be a team which scores a ton of goals of the rush.

I would give Kuemper the next start in Nashville. Historically, the Preds have given Quick a pretty rough ride.

He played well even during the Kings recent slump. No single player in the league is capable of carrying a team.

They live in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, its a pretty plush world :-)

He can't carry them to a Cup by himself, but he can certainly be the difference between getting at least a point during a six game losing streak.

He has shown the ability to impose his will on opponents but he's never been consistent with it. This isn't a new observation. You watch him last night and its like, this guy is a Top 5 player in the league. Then he has a stretch where he just plays well.

At the end of the day, he isn't getting $13MM in real dollars this season to simply play well.

I love Quick, so I feel bad admitting this, but I was a lot more comfortable with Kuemper in net last night. It was calming having a goalie relaxed and not overplaying everything.

Agreed, I tend to not fault the goalie as well, but Quick's been in a funk of late and needed some time off. The number of times the first or second shot beat him, especially five-hole... something didn't seem right with him.

With Quick's age, and coming off a major injury the coaches made a mistake playing him so much. Especially when they didn't have to, Kuemper played well this season.

I don't want to come off as a Kopitar fan boy that will always make excuses for him, (I have criticized him), I just think the Kings were so listless in their 8 game skid that no single non-goalie player could've made much difference. That's just not how hockey works IMO. Basketball on the other hand...
