This team doesn't have the depth like the 2012 and 2014 teams that's how.Look at the players the leaders and experience those two cup teams had. This team has no center depth like those team had or the leadership. The defense isn't as good as those two teams either.

Who does these days though? The cap catches up with everyone. Teams that look good now can get the injury bug, or cool off. We have the 1c, 2c,1d,2d and 1g, with great complimentary players.

kings are a point out of the lead for the west and have 7 points in hand over 3rd place in the pacific too

but lets keep talking about 2012

Yes injuries are part of the game and why good drafting and developing is a must as we saw with VV and Nolan and King Toffoli,Pearson and able to trade Johnson for Carter and Simmons and Schenn for Richards. If you have a good center depth and good goaltending and defense you can be a threat in the playoffs.

The Kings had all that and have two cups.Sutter put these players in positions to succeed and pushed the right buttons. The Kings are a good team and I've always said this. The issue has been the same for several seasons,if they are to be a true contender they need another top 6ish third line center or fwd not name Carter or a top 4 defenseman to patch or manage the holes on this team.

Why does it matter if the Kings are a point out of the lead anyways? As long as they get in is all that matters right?

apparently canucks fans are just losin it over this?

nobody can produce video so i don't have much to go off of

That happens all the time in games. None of the 3 Kings were involved in the play , one guy coming off the ice [ see the open door], one guy standing there watching, and one guy getting into the play as he comes off the bench.

Yeah I totally agree,Canuck players were also on the ice 6 of them total two near the boards 4 down low and it's a non issue and irrelevant cause if lol that's two many men on the ice, then Canucks were at fault as well.

I said it there and I'll say it here, after we got burned for goals on 'convenient' changes (guy going to the neutral zone end of their bench, oncoming player jumping off the offensive side), and after we got a too many men for essentially nothing, I don't feel bad at all about this one...and even then, none of the too many players from EITHER side (yes, the Canucks did too) had literally anything at all to do with the play, they were never within 100 feet of it. Much ado about nothing.

Good win, closer than it should have been. We were up four posts to 1 ;) Nice ot see everyone band together and come out guns blazing in the third. Not the best version of Quick, likely because he wasn't under seige...one of hte first games in a while we've been in definite control of a game most of the way through. Nice to come out on top of what felt like a 2015 Kings game.

60.42% CF%, 66% HDCF%. And felt like it. Most of the danger was controlled by us, Markstrom played very well for the most part.

Need to get Kopitar and Brown going again, but they need to stop getting buried. They're getting the hard deployment so Kempe and Gaborik especially get offensive time. Kopitar, Brown, Pearson with the good ol 30% offensive zone start percentage, Doughty with 38. Kempe G aborik Toffoli with 70%. They'd better be scoring!

Drew with another masterful performance minus the very obvious brainfarts. 68.75 CF% (16.67% rel, and with those zone starts too), 70% scoring chances, and a GWG.

As did Trevor Lewis. Two very nice assists from using his speed and vision.
I was watching the Panthers vs The Canadiens last night and some more games lately.

Speed has been an absolute factor in those games. Some guys with limited skill are just flying out there and creating opportunities just because of their speed.

Denis Malgin, Paul Byron etc.

Hopefully Gabriel Vilardi can improve his skating a la John Tavares.

Well, of course, but I would also like to see the Kings win the division .... for just the 2nd time in 50+ years.

How many division titles do the Sharks and Ducks have? 6 or 8 each?? Even throw in Phx and Dallas for teams that have won the division at the Kings expense.

It disgusts me that this team can't even back into the division title 2x! :shakehead

I agree. It would have been nice for the Kings to have won a division title some time from 2012 - 2014, but I understood the team really was built for the playoffs and the type of game Lombardi and Sutter wanted them to play in a 7-game series.

I would be even more disgusted if I had 14 division titles and just 1 cup to show for it. Chasing season titles is a fool's errand. Sutter killed the 2016 team's chances by running his top guys into the ground trying to win the division.

hockey factoid #11: (some) teams that win their division also win Stanley Cups. It's not outrageous to cheer for, and actually win BOTH.

I know some people get on Drew about his comments but to me it is very nice to listen to a non-robot talk about hockey. It's even better to see his passion out there after a goal or big play.

It looks like all the kings are a little bit looser on the ice this season and I know being on numerous different teams over the years it's always the guys that play a little bit looser that have the success.

I actually had fun watching the game last night and forgot how fun it is watching a young bull like Kempe learn his craft. Iafallo maybe hitting a bit of a wall but is so smart and knows where to go. Doughty was a stud.

Going into this new year I think the Kings when looking back started the year plain miserable and ended up playing With Phone, grit, and emotion and I think 2018 will look bright

Kempe manhandling Gudbrandson--all 6'4 220 of him--was glorious. Can't wait till he grows into his man strength. REALLY going ot be something to watch when he adds THAT dimension.

I’m really excited for the Kings once Carter comes back. The Kings are playing this well without their best player last year. That’s wild. I can’t believe some people are saying this team doesn’t have depth.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Brown
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Gaborik - Kempe - Lewis
Clifford - Shore - Mitchell
Jokinen, Andreoff, Brodzinski

Muzzin - Doughty
Forbort - Martinez
MacDermid - Folin
Fantenberg, LaDue

Quick
Kuemper

I think that’s a championship-caliber team. The only thing I’d like to see is a top-four right handed defenseman. But I’d to mess with the team chemistry.

Vilardi cleared to play.
Vilardi cleared

Gabriel Vilardi, the Kings’ first-round draft pick in June, is cleared to play, according to general manager Rob Blake. Vilardi underwent a months-long rehabilitation from a back strain and was recently returned to his junior team, the Windsor Spitfires.

THE CUP IS OURS! :win:

They didn't show a replay of his elbowing call in the 1st but at least to me I didn't see Kempe follow through with an elbow... looked more like another manhandling. ;)

This team doesn't have depth or leadership or experience no matter how many times you post it.All you've to do is look at the 2012 and 2014 and see the players we had and leadership. This is no way a championship team as is.This team has a third line center hole and or top 6 fwd not name Carter and top 4 defenseman hole to fill.Gotta fill at lease one hole with a quality player and try to patch and minimize the other holes on the roster.Carter isn't the savior as many keep pumping on here.He helps fill the 2nd centermen postion but doesn't fill the holes on the roster mentioned above just fills a existing hole added on top of the issues with the roster when he went down. That defense isn't a championship caliber either as is today.Hopfully Blake fills at lease one of those holes and tries to patch the others.
