How many points were the Kings out of first place in the Pacific Division?

It's not like the Kings squeaked into the playoffs in 2012. They were a good team, which became very good with the addition of Carter.
Yeah, they were great with the 2nd worst offense and all -- made the playoffs, what, second to last game of the season?

You guys drinking rotten eggnog or something? The Kings were awful all year in 2012. Since clearly you've forgotten:

"In February of 2012, I heard the noise loud and clear. I was captain of the L.A. Kings and I knew the expectations that came with my role. It’s a winning town … and we weren’t winning. The front office had changed coaches in December and we’d hovered around 10th in conference for most of the year — it wasn’t good enough. I knew that. "

The team was underachieving the whole year but on paper it was a playoff contender.Hint why they fired Murray and hired Sutter and the team improved.Your 2012 example wasn't a good one, the team was a good team just needed another voice.Hint the record the 2012 posted in the playoffs is proof this team was a dangerous team.

The Kings were pathetic most of 2012. The Carter and Sutter moves just got them rolling at the right time. They were a bubble team at best before that.

Unfortunately the playoff record against the top three seeds says they were just underachieving during the regular season and needed a new voice to kick them into gear by Sutter Fishy.

apparently canucks fans are just losin it over this?

If that's the case then they too had too many men on the ice as well.I count six Canucks on the ice if they want to use their logic.

[MOD] Lombardi fired Murray to save his job, and a lot of people wanted Lombardi gone too. That's quite teh revisionist history you've got going.

Looks to me like two guys are within 5 feet of the bench and three are not involved in the play by a long sea mile. For the country that spawned this game, there sure are a lot of people just have no f***ing clue as to the rules. Impressive.

Yep, the 2015-16 team was way better during the reg season -- came within 1 call of winning the division. Then they get totally creamed in the first round by a hot team.

What about last year? Pittsburgh gets to play a team with no centers. Anything can and does happen in the playoffs.

They tore it up in the playoffs because everything fell into place at the right time, not because they were dangerous. Runs like that are so rare we won't see one like it for many years, it was a perfect storm. It was way more than a new voice. It was having 2 #1 centers and a #2 center. It was having guys like King and Nolan come up and make immediate impacts. It was having a goalie put up a ridiculous .946 save percentage.

I remember making the long drive up and being pissed most of the time because the team was playing like garbage. Make no mistake, if they don't make that Carter trade they miss the playoffs. Saying this team was good that year is revisionist history.

that's what i'm seeing too, i mean they don't seem to want to show me anything that might help but i can only assume muzzin was subbed out but in a shoving match with a canuck

none of them involved in the play whatsoever so i couldn't care less. worse subs happen during play multiple times every game

Uh no, the Kings were not terrible in 2012. They were closer to being the #3 seed and winning the Pacific Division than they were to missing the playoffs. You should check the expiration date on your eggnog. :)

The Kings were an underachieving team for most of 2011-12. Big difference between being underachieving and being a bad team.

Richards set the tone in Game 1 of the Vancouver series, then Quick and Brown stepped up and the rest of the team gained confidence from there. That team was always capable, especially after the Carter trade.

The team was underachieving as many in the media and Kings players were saying thru the season and when Murray got fired.Their style of play wasn't a offensive weapon Under Murray and it opened a lil bit under Sutter. The Carter deal really helped this team down the middle and depth. But on paper this team was good and deep on defense and deep at Center. After Sutter was hired I saw this team changing and Sutter was getting 100% out of the roster during the playoffs. The team was good on paper and later on the ice.Watching this team against Canucks the test I was watching showed me this team was real. The Blues were good and this team sweep them just as a example.Once they blew past the Blues I really did feel this could be the year.Think about our depth on defense and Quick playing out of his mind.Or the center depth down that middle.

I agree, Sutter came in and set the tone in the room. Doughty became a much more serious player, and Sutter wasn't afraid to tell him he was undisciplined and needed to improve his game. Plenty of tough love for Brown too. Sutter got the most out of them.

How do you know the kings aren't underachieving now this season? Muzzin hasn't been at his very best, Pearson has gone on holiday, Carter has been totally invisable. Andreoff is just about to break out im telling ya.

Yes, a lot of people who were 100% wrong wanted Lombardi gone. Sutter was always Lombardi's first choice to coach the Kings. When the team didn't respond to Murray Lombardi went with his #1 choice. That isn't revisionist history. Lombardi is loyal to a fault. He gave Murray every opportunity to get things turned around.

This team doesn't have the depth like the 2012 and 2014 teams that's how.Look at the players the leaders and experience those two cup teams had. This team has no center depth like those team had or the leadership. The defense isn't as good as those two teams either.

All teams underachieve for stretches, but when you do it for 68 games you aren't good, that's why the season is so long. My point was it wasn't like this was a good team that needed a new voice. It was bringing in Sutter, and the Carter trade. And King and Nolan coming up to make an impact.
