GDT: GM#26 LA Kings vs Calgary Flames @6:00pm 11/30/18

My new biggest fear....Quick gets traded for pick and prospect and Cal Petersen ends up with .935 save % and steals about 8 games, gets 4 shutouts....and wins the
Kings MVP and Unsung Hero and Best New Player...and then is hard to sign! LOL. He's an RFA after this season.

The other call they missed was this; Tkchuck trips Brown as Carter goes into the zone. Straight up stick into the legs, Brown takes a face full of ice and the Flames get the 1st EN goal.

I hate rooting against the team, but hopefully it prevents any stupid desperation move.

That team we played tonight was tops in our division. And honestly, they suck. Just like the rest of the division. San Jose is going to be right where the Kings are in 2 years, if not sooner. Who is up and coming? I would say Vancouver has the most nice young pieces, but that's about it. Anaheim's impact players are old, just like ours are. Edmonton is proving they'll never do shit, and no matter how promising Arizona looks, they end up sucking as well. Calgary is plagued by the same, a few nice players and then a bunch of filler. Tank this season, get a lights-out prospect. Let Vilardi play and acclimate. There's seriously no reason this team can't make runs at the division in a couple years, the Pacific is that f***ing bad.

Seriously Blake and Luc gotta go! If I didn’t have any morals I would post Stacia phone number to bombard her with text messages. But I treat it like PHI and haven’t talked to her in a couple years

When was the last kings shot in goal?

Oh there's one!

I watched the last 1.5 periods, and did not see ONE quality sog.

Even with the EN, they barely had one floated to Smith (small victories, eh, Jimmy), but not another sog. You'd think by dumb luck a puck would hit a skate and go in or at least set up a scoring chance, but.... you'd be wrong.

They're unwatchable.

Something must be going on within the locker room. This team might not be great, but they are not this bad. This is looking like one of the worst teams of the past decade. You don't go from winning the Jennings with a healthy goal differential and positive possession rates to being this big of a dumpster fire. Especially when there was very little turnover.

Blake has the worst +/- by a Kings player over the last 25 years at -28 in 1997. Phaneuf and Kovalchuk are both on pace to shatter it.

Tough to even watch Dion play anymore, you would hope he would call it a career but the money is probably just to good to pass up. It's terrifying to think how bad this guy is going to be for the next two seasons after this one.

Maybe the TBL ast GM and scouts that have been at 3 or more Kings games are reporting back to the GM and their final analysis "I would not give up anything for any one of these players...except for perhaps Cal Petersen. Jake Muzzin is decent. But can you please not trade any of our assets on any of these players? They have bad mojo and I'm afraid they would bring it to our team. Can I please have a new assignment? I want to see good NHL hockey, for that matter"

I usually don't come over to other forums, but one player has really piqued my interest lately and that's Cal Petersen. I'm trying not to get too high on him, as he's only played like 9 games, but realistically, where do you guys see this goalie as far as your prospects go? Has he always been a strong prospect of yours or did he kind of just come out of nowhere? I see he's only a second year pro after playing in the NCAA. .910% in the AHL last year, which is probably about average? .881% in 10 games in the AHL this year. Not good, but only 10 games.

Is this a random career NHL backup/AHL goalie on a hot streak? Or is this a legit ceiling guy?

I like what I've seen. He's mostly doing very well on the eye test (one really poor goal tonight though, but I've watched every goal against this year and he's doing pretty good), save percentage looks really good.

Is this a random Ben Scrivens or Peter Budaj hot streak? I'd have to think he'll generate some interest at some point, maybe this offseason. Depending on Quick's health, it appears one of him or Campbell will be expendable and I'd love for the Devils to look into either him or Campbell to platoon with Keith Kinkaid, as Cory Schneider is toast. He's got a .905% save percentage over his last 98 games and an .863% over his last 17 or 18 regular season games going back to last year. He can't goaltend anymore and needs to be bought out or permanent LTIRement after this year, but I also don't think Kinkaid is a legit starter, but could be a good platoon guy with one of your two guys.

Thanks in advance! Like I said, I normally don't ask questions about random players, but we're hurting at the position and this guy has caught my eye. Campbell has played well too.

No problem and thanks for the interest! Feel free to stop by any time.

Petersen was a free agent signing by Blake in 2017. He was highly sought after, since Petersen refused to sign with Buffalo (who drafted him). As expected, Buffalo fans soured on him and Kings fans got hopeful.

Since joining the Kings organization, he has been a top 5 prospect by every analysis of any knowledgeable pundit.

Last year, Petersen split duty in the AHL to get acclimated.

The PLAN this year was for Quick and Campbell to be in the NHL and Petersen to be the #1 in the AHL. Next season, Petersen was slotted to be Quick's backup.

But after Quick and Campbell got injured, and Budaj played awful in his first game for the Kings, Petersen came in and hasn't looked back.

I expect Petersen to be sent back to the AHL after Campbell returns, but ultimately, he looks to be in the long term plans of the organization.

Hope that helps!

Good eye. Cal Petersen and Rasmus Kupari are the last 2 players I would trade. I would trade Doughty before him. (Doughty would get a return more than his actual value) It is Quick that will be traded. So New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelpia and other teams will be making offers between now and February 26. Kings Pawn is very very astute and thorough and correct....but with the sudden and total UTTER DEMISE of the Kings...the plans are changing.

Thanks! Helps a lot! So basically, it sounds like Campbell could be expendable? I'm assuming Campbell is a UFA after this year if Petersen was slated to be Quick's backup next year? Well, it sounds like the Kings are better off keeping him as he shouldn't be worth a 1st round pick right now or a really good roster player, but he also seems like he'd be more worth holding onto for you guys than taking a later pick or something like that. I guess I thought Campbell was signed for another year or more after this? So there goes those plans! Thanks your help though!

I was actually gonna make a main proposal thread, but asking what his value would be, which I've never made one of those before, but I figured I'd go straight to the Kings forum with asking about him. To see what the fans of the organization who has him had to say, as you guys would know much more. I actually didn't know he was a Buffalo draft pick. I overlooked that!

Thanks! And you think Quick will be traded? I think I would trade Schneider for any goalie right now other than Price (horrid contract) and probably Martin Jones. The Sharks are my second favorite team and I'm a big Martin Jones critic. I'd take Jones over Schneider, but his contract is still too much. If he had fewer years or fewer dollars (one or the other, I'd take him). I'm at the point where I would trade Schneider for Darling or Allen, just because their buyout would be easier to swallow after this year. Not because they're better.

Where do you think Quick would go? Philadelphia seems like the most logical. Or Florida if Luongo is done after this year. I would personally take Quick in New Jersey, but not for a lot of assets, just because he's signed until he's 37 and has missed time with injury for several of the last half dozen seasons. He's definitely still good when healthy though, but I think Blake would command more than what I'd like to give up for him.

Wow, only now do we understand Blake's motives behind the acquisition of Phaneuf and Kovalchuk.

I'm of the camp where I don't feel goalies can be expected to get much of a return. Sure, there are cases like Lehner, Jones, and Schneider returning a first, but the return is generally less.

Plus I'm not a fan of management and am prepared to dislike anything they do right now ;) This season has jaded me.

Anyway, I wouldn't say any of the goalies are expendable, to be honest. Quick has the history and pedigree, but has been injured multiple times this season. Campbell has stepped up when needed, and in a team with a few big contracts, is cost controllable. There are few expectations though. Petersen is the hopeful future of the Kings, but has yet to prove himself as a #1 at the pro level.

I know this all sounds silly, but the Kings saw their goaltending depth disappear seemingly overnight and are trying to replenish it. In about a season and a half, they lost Jones (due to trade), JF Berube (waivers), and hopeful future #1 Patrik Bartosak (went back to Czech Republic after domestic abuse arrest).

So, I don't want to give a canned answer of trying to talk you out of a trade proposal, but I am just explaining why I wouldn't think it's a good idea to trade a goalie at this time. I think they would be lucky to get a second round pick out of it, and the recent history of the Kings' loss of goaltending depth makes the risk outweigh the reward.
