Not much good to take from that period.

I still support the changes made during the offseason, but I’m starting to wonder if Stevens is too much of a players coach for this group.

You can't bring in someone stricter. They've been through that, and they've shown they're not going to listen to that anymore.

Super. He can trade Doughty for scraps and that will be the end.
Looking our defense core we really need to re-sign DD, we have so many high expectations of the other dmen and they'll never be like Drew. Now the issue would be if DD would want to re-sign.

people underestimate how much balance he brings to the entirety of the lineup too. it's not so much a pure "we're missing 20-30 goals" thing as much as having an outrageously dangerous 2nd line forces opponents to do more line matching which means you don't just snuff out the top line and send out whoever against the rest of the lineup like what opponents can do now. jeff carter is an elite 2C, no question about it and that commands a lot of respect from opponents

Carter isn't the savior of this teams trouble. The team itself is the issue not the second centermens position.Carter is a center not defenseman and plays one line not three.Carter doesn't play goal either.Carter is important, but not what ills this teams woes right now.Carter is just a slice of the pizza of issues.

It doesn’t look like they are responding to Stevens and the new staff anymore either though. This month feels like more than just a slump, there are serious issues in the organization right now.

Losing Carter is big, but season ending big? One player prevents this team from even competing against the worst teams?
The problem is the Kings had only 2 legit centers to start the season. Now they have one. There is a reason that only Kopitar's line can generate anything.

Quick hasn't taken over many games at all this season.

He's been letting in goals in the beginning of most games.

He was literally leading the league in most metrics until the last 5ish games, and was absolutely fire to start this season and covering our asses while we were trading chances. Please tell me your memory isn't that short, or review his game log if you do actually forget. I'm with you that he's been shaky lately, but he was absolutely a factor in our hot start.

Yeah, probably. You saw how bad we were when Kopitar was struggling. We're not an insanely deep offensive team and when we aren't playing defense either we're in no man's land. Losing one 60 point scorer is sort of a big deal to this squad when no one else breaks 40.

yes, but the ducks have zero legit centers and they're beating us. Arizona barely has one line of NHL players and they beat us last night. This team just isn't putting in the work and it shows on the scoresheet.

That sounds like a bigger problem than losing Carter in that they shouldn't be done without him.

Maybe I'm tough on him, but I don't think he's been lighting the world on fire for the fast few weeks. I did think he started the season great though.

It is difficult to disagree with you but the swan dive started soon after Carter left...

For sure, it's a much bigger problem, its a depth matter. But Carter being out is removing a finger from the hole in the hull.

And that's fine, we hold him to a high standard as we should, but he was destroying that standard to start the season, which is what makes this stretch look worse. I know we all said we'd need lights out goaltending to stay competitive and he was giving it to us, and now he's not.

Quick overplaying again.

This will likely be a one goal game and there's the softy.

I love how Foxy tries to analyze the play and look for "which skater" that may have blown it, while Quick has (yet again) slid past the other post while doing the splits and has no opportunity to get back in net before he gets to fish out another goal, by not being able to see the big picture and what the "other team may try to do to score a goal." (may be my best run on sentence - evar!)

The lack of offense really isn't fair to Quick though - he know if he doesn't get a shutout, he'll likely lose the game.
