Vancouver stole our entire game plan. And by "our" I mean every Sabres fan with a real brain, our actual front office doesnt have one

If we're looking at the roster for players willing to do jobs and such, why is Jack Quinn still here? In terms of on-ice disappointments, he's only second to my dislike of the player Owen Power continues to display himself as. There was a time when I thought he had hints of Kucherov's half-wall game in him, plus his ability to mask his release from near the top of the slot. But now? He gets less shit thrown his way for being one of the biggest disappointments of the season... again. Yes, last year was injury. But this year? A year in which he looks like he did absolutely no physical preparation to supposedly be a key to their 2nd line AGAIN?

f*** this guy.

YES! This gets almost no attention. In fact he's a clear cut #1 in my order of Sabre disappointments:
  1. Quinn (x100)
  2. Power
  3. Cozens
  4. Jokiharju
  5. UPL
  6. "New & Improved 4th Line"
  7. Coaching
  8. Samuelsson
I'm hesitant about being too harsh because I never want to advocate giving up on a guy after one bad year, especially a young kid. But this kid is actively tanking them on the ice. The power play should be his greatest strength, but despite numerous opportunities, he's done f***all with it. At even strength he's invisible on his good nights.

I'm so disappointed in what looks like his preparation for this year being sub-standard. He looked better ending last year after coming back from his sprained ankle and torn achilles than he has at any point this season. I guess I'm tired of him not being part of the reasons why this team sucks, when he was looked upon to be a contributor again and is on pace for a 30-ish point season.

He looks like a kid that did zero off ice work to prepare for the season. For a kid that had to continually rehab coming off of major injuries, you'd think the off-ice preparation would be priority number 1. If the kid doesn't grow up and learn to become a pro off the ice (and quickly), I'm shipping him out this offseason.

The number of disappointing players would push coaching up my list. Not to mention special teams remaining lousy

I’m sure no impact forward is coming this season since Adams tells us good players are only traded in the off season… instead of moving Power for a top 6 center trade our likely #4-6 overall pick instead. Way too early to give up on Power. He’s 22 for cripes sake there’s a reason he was in the Olympics and was a #1 pick. Our 1st+Rosen+Quinn is more than enough for a 1C.

Trade Cozens, Quinn, Samuelsson, Power or Byram, Jokiharju, maybe Krebs.

We have Thompson, Tuch, Kulich, Peterka, Benson, Zucker, McLeod and Greenway in our top 9. The only thing missing in terms of quantity is a top 6 C. If Zucker and Greenway don't want to sign extensions before the TDL, you trade them at TDL. Most likely replace them in the summer with similar or even better players. In defense, everything is simpler, ideally find two more defensive top 4 D, at least one of them is definitely an RD to play in the second pair.

Since it seems to be a team wide issue and the 2nd year in a row, I wonder if it stems from the no accountability/permissive culture.
Shouldn't the GM adress those issues or is it solely on the player/ how do other teams handle this?

"These players are disappointing, they should be off the team"

"Why haven't they been traded for a top center"
To be fair, the only top line center that has been rumored to be available comes with a wealth of risk, too. It's not like we're trading for Barkov. On top of that, I'm sure GMs have noticed how other GMs have plucked players from our misfit island and saw their game level up a notch or two.

Don't disagree that he is still/young but the Olympics had no NHL players so they grabbed everyone who could hold a stick. its hardly an achievement.

I was a big time Quinn stan. Watched him in the AHL his first year, and thought 'this kid could be a top liner in the NHL'. I mean- his first AHL season rivaled any season I've seen from a rookie on the Amerks, and that dates back to when Vanke, Roy, Pommers, etc...played for the Amerks. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Kid could be a great player, but it appears his work ethic is lacking. Sucks.

It depends on the team.

NYR waits until a good player decides he only wants to play in NYC.
WAS took a chance on a couple of players and the wheel came up in their favor.
LAK took a chance and it came up against them.
FLA stacked high draft picks and eventually landed a star who wanted out of CGY
STL rode a rookie goaltender to a Jim Carrey second half of a season
DET tried signing a bunch of older players
BOS signed the best free agent in the cap era and then landed an entire 1st line in the 2nd round
TPA got their first line very late in drafts
VGK got their first line from FLA

I think it's worth noting that drafting D extremely high has not been a fantastic strategy.

15. The Sabres have won four in a row, but we will see if there is any long-term fallout from Sunday, when Stefan Noesen’s hit on Tage Thompson went unaddressed. One player on another team said he heard from a friend on Buffalo that there was talk of the leadership group and/or alternate captaincies being switched over what didn’t happen. What a gamer, Dennis Gilbert. Fought Mathieu Olivier three seconds into Tuesday's game to make everyone look better. Not easy.

Sounds like Sammy is getting some (well deserved) shit in the room.

Sorry I was more referring to the other poster about conditioning and how other teams adress it since it seems to be an issue at least for 2 seasons in a row that players are not in shape/prepared.

Once again, some of this stuff was laughably predictable.

When they named the captains cozens and Samuelsson stuck out as weak choices, and now here we are.

The "changing culture" entailed simply picking guys who were on this garbage team for 3+ years and telling them they were leaders because of it.

I have a high tolerance for some things this team does, but completely missing obvious stuff is so frustrating. Its not a trade that requires a dance partner, it's a decision that was completely ours and we screwed it up

I'm choosing to believe that there's actually something going on behind the scenes here.

That he's not really hurt, but in locker room exile. And more importantly that they're actively shopping him.

Francis Fukuyama isn't our GM and this isn't The End of the Franchise. I still believe that "things can happen."

1-Cozens
2-Coaching
3-4th line
4- UPL
5-Power
6-Quinn
7-Samuelsson
8-Joker

Cozens is lost
Ruff is lost
4th line is lost
UPL adopts the Sabres frail mentality instead of keeping them in bad games
Power is just soft
Quinn with major injuries back-to-back after being cerebral every time he was on the ice, and new coach/system. While he was disappointing, it's not that crazy to believe he struggles. This is not the year to move him. The team should have had more answers in the top 6. I fully believe Quinn will be back to form next season. I always wondered how JQ would do at center.

I had 0 expectations of glassuelsson and Joker. Can't be disappointed.
