I'm sorry but anyone who thinks Forbort or Phaneuf are making the roster of a playoff team has to have their eyes checked. Phaneuf had a great career but he just can't keep up anymore. Anyone remember when Dave Babych finished his career with the Kings? That's what it feels like.
Forbort helped the Kings make the playoffs last year. Btw

Our only two + players are Clifford +1, and Muzzin a +2.

Doughty -12
Phaneuf -10
Kovalchuk -10
Lewis - 9
Amadio is a -7 in only 13 games played.

Maybe Muzzin should be playing with Drew again. Seriously. Forbort needs to sit next game at least. Ladue should be in and Muzzin with Drew.

Muzzin Doughty
Martinez Ladue
Fantenberg Phaneuf

It appears Brickley's game must be getting better...Ontario was bad the first month and he was -12. Since November 1, he is PLUS 1 and had 3 shots last night,
an assist and +1. You can see his game log here: Good to see that he's been plus in November and the Reign are still pretty bad. I would not be surprised
if he gets another shot soon. Tonellisghost has not been around since posting last month, but he stated Clague is getting closer, or some such.
Can any Reign attendees comment on Brickley and Clague? (no they are not the answer to the Kings problems) Remember - Petersen's numbers this year in Ontario were brutal (a team thing!) and he comes in and beats the Black Hawks and almost beat Nashville. So you cannot judge Ontario players by the stats only.

Brickley 6 games in November. 1 goal, 1 assist, plus 1 and 12 shots :::

By doing what exactly? If you’re going to give him credit for helping the Kings make the playoffs, will you in turn do the same in crediting him for not helping the team make the playoffs and for not being able to win a playoff series with Forbort playing a top 4 role?

Crediting Forbort for helping the Kings make the playoffs last season would be like Caps fans heralding Jeff Schultz as the reason why they made the playoffs all those years he was there.

Forbort is a liability when the puck is on his stick and he’s been just as bad without the puck on his stick. What exactly is he helping the Kings do now?

Nobody around here wants to admit it, but he's become a very sloppy and mistake prone player.

Has any Kings player who signed a massive extension followed it up with a great performance? Seems like every one of them has seen a massive drop in performance whenever that happens.

Doughty is trying to do way too much out there, and he’s not playing like someone who can lead by example.

Forbort is helping in the concerted effort to get Hughes. (or Kakko, Cozens, Dach if lose lotto)

Giving these players NTC/NMC in their contracts is a bad idea. Every GM in the NHL should reconsider this practice.

Eckpoo just put out his trade rumors chart and Nate Thompson is 7th on it. LOL. No one wants Nate Thompson...EXCEPT Willie Desjardiens, who wants him out there playing in
all situations and 16 minutes. Granted, what Nate did on the PP from the halfwall, was something Kopi cannot do - have urgency to make a good play and get the puck to the net and not just dish it
off to the point.

Wasn't terribly disappointed tonight, glad we didn't get any points. But the team did play two pretty damn good periods against a beast of a team. Kempe looked good, Peterson looks legit.

I would trade Muzzin and Carter right now. Especially if they can get a first out of a team like NJ, Florida, Carolina, etc. who want to try to get into the playoffs but have a good chance of missing. I actually wouldn't move Kovy. If this team got Hughes and another top 7 or so pick along with Vilardi in the mix, they could turn things around quickly. I hope Kopitar and Doughty keep mailing it in, though. Save it for next year.

I'd hold off on hoping to get a 1st out of a team that has a good chance of missing the playoffs.

Nobody around here wants to admit it, but he's become a very sloppy and mistake prone player.

It's a sloppy and mistake prone team. He's not into it and/or doesn't believe in anyone else. Not that he has much reason to. As he said, he misses the praise he got at the all-star games and everything else. You guys are tough to play against, I hate it. That's awesome to hear, and that hasn't been the case for a while. Hell, the way they started the 2014 playoffs was soft. The whole run in 2014, you can see the cracks that have opened up into a chasm this year. The slow starts? How many times did they go down 2-0 at home against the Rangers? That was in the Final, not November.

Even when they were good, I'm not sure they were efficient. They were a volume team. Them becoming a very inefficient team now was there if the effort/buy-in level ever went away. That's the team Lombardi built. If they played the system, they were tough to beat. If anything was wrong, they could look like crap, or average at best.

Gaborik. For a year anyway. I mean it wasn't great, but he had a good 14-15 season. Other than that, Quick, Brown, Kopitar, Toffoli, Pearson, they all went down a notch in the following year. Martinez, Muzzin, on the fence a bit.

Unfortunately for Doughty, he's not only the last guy that will get that Cup contract, but his post Cup contract season is coming with the team really bottoming out. He could've left easily, but now if he wants out, it'll be a little more difficult. So he'll have to figure it out.

He is a UFA, and can do one thing decently. He is a guy you can trade easily at the deadline. Blake can't ask for much in return, and there's no future commitment. Toffoli, Carter, Muzzin, Martinez, those are more complicated. Thompson could be done in 5 minutes. Blake could retain 50% for a few weeks to make it even easier. Where he ranks on some random chart, who knows, but I'm sure Thompson would welcome a trade to a playoff team.

His messy play didn't just start this year though.

I am actually wondering if Drew will soon just go to Blake and say "if you can make a deal with Toronto, I would go there. I am committed here, but if you are making changes and I would waive
my no trade and go there". The Make Beliefs problem in signing Nylander for the supposed 8 mil, is that they have to also sign Matthews, Marner AND Gardiner. Gardiner will be a UFA and
they do not want him to walk. So to even add DD to their payroll, they would deal Nylander and one other contract - take Gardiner, who will probably get about 6 next yr ; with Toronto
or someone. The 8 mil Nylander and 6 mil Gardiner is 14 to Drew's 11. Get their #1 2019 too and give them our #2. To get about 5 higher pick, most likely. Sometimes, moving up even 5 spots, you get the player you covet.

But only do this if can sign Nylander to a favorable deal. The King's strength, used to be SIZE, tenacity, being physical and having Kopitar, Carter and Richards up the middle...now - Kopitar is like a #2 center and Carter is quickly regressing and Center and physical play are issues. There's actually a whole buncha issues. Blow it up.

Kopitar and Doughty have performed below par all season. I would be fine with it if their ice time was reduced on favor of Thompson once in a while.

Unfortunately, there isn't any defenseman available to reduce Doughty's minutes. Last night Doughty played 28:43, and Kopitar played 22:09. If Kopitar won't do something from the half wall on the power play, no reason to have him out there.

"Below Par" is a bit of an understatement. Kopitar is getting pushed off the puck about as easily as a sack of feathers.

I think sometimes when players reach a certain level of stature coaches and management become either afraid to criticize them or are in denial about how they're playing.

I used to be opposed to moving either of these guys, but I think I may be coming around to your point of view. Maybe they could both benefit from a change of scenery. Actually moving them could be difficult though, but not impossible.

Or the player in question no longer listens. Or has no need to listen. Kopitar and Doughty aren't going anywhere unless they want to, and even then it might not work.

Not that LeBron is the best example, since he has such an outsized impact on a game being a basketball player, and he still plays at a high level, but when was the last time he was coached by a coach? He's above that.

Who would be able to tell Kopitar or Doughty anything at this point? Coaches will obviously be gone before they are. A GM can only do so much. Lombardi believed he could change the fate of Richards just by talking to him. It's a bad team, bad year, going to take ice time away? They still get paid though? If they're 31st playing 20 or 30 minutes a night, if they play less, ok.

Austin Wagner recalled...the Cup is ours! Er...the speedy, no finish line can be ours! Hagelin-Kempe-Wagner.

Jon Rosen✔@lakingsinsider
#LAKings will be recalling F Austin Wagner. G Cole Kehler was assigned to Ontario yesterday.

My guess is Wagner comes in for Amadio next game based on Mike’s low ice time against the preds.

If the Kings can stay competitive on the ice and in games, but losing or picking up OTLs, it’s the best case scenario short and long term. It’s not like finishing last guarantees the 1st pick in the draft.

And you hope that the trade able players do well, to raise the returns almost all of us hope to see.

I think you are forced to keep these guys to be there during and after the redesign, which is somewhere between a retool and a rebuild. And I’m okay with it.

Kopitar
Kovalchuk
Brown
Doughty
Quick
Iafallo
Kempe

I think you keep these guys and let them play off their contracts
Muzzin
Toffoli
Clifford

I think you have to move these guys if the return is at least some kind of futures and / or cap space.

Carter
Lewis
Thompson
Forbort
Martinez

Getting rid of those players will make is the only way to carry the baggage that is the Phaneuf contract.

You want to see how the following players can perform at the nhl level and maybe package some of them for one of the premiere rfa’s coming up.

Fantenberg
LaDue
Amadio
Rempal

If it keeps going the way it is, Ilya Kovalchuk will probably ask for a trade in December/Jan. The kings would be wise to trade him, getting out from that foolish 35+ awful contract would be HUGE.

Back to Nashville - it must be nice, when your 12th leading scorer, (Jarnkrok) can walk in and roof 3 pucks top shelf almost like it's warmups.

12th is scoring hat trick. crazy depth.

That would be a nails "checking" line though. If those guys can get in quickly and be disruptive on the forecheck (they can, for sure) and just fish pucks out and funnel them to the net or Kempe who has some skill, they can get some good hard working goals to set an example for the rest.
