Brad Stuart and brad may? LOL. Also, bourque didn’t win the cup the year he was traded at the deadline. HF being HF
Even if the Brads aren't Giroux-level stars, my point stands: stars have been dealt near the deadline to contenders where they have played integral roles in winning the cup

Yea obviously not a third line player but 1st & a nice prospect (how nice?) seems like a big offer for a rental with a full NMC.
Rentals go for a 1st and something lol. It’s just the way it is. Now you consider the caliber of player and is it really hard to fathom that giroux can get a 1st and a prospect? Not saying it will happen but it definitely could/should. We have chuck fletcher so it can definitely go for less

Ray Bourque, Marion Gaborik, Jeff Carter, Kimmo Timonen, Brad Stuart, and Brad May all come to mind, and that's just off the top of my head.

Looks like you didn't have to wait too long
How many of those occurred in the Modern (Salary Cap / Post-Lockout) NHL?

Carter is probably the only one that’s truly relevant and Jeff Carter was traded multiple times. He was also considerably younger than Giroux is now when he was traded to any true contender.

Sounds like they’re prepping the fanbase for an underpayment. Definitely a buyers market where a lot of teams don’t have the cap space. He’ll likely get before his worth if he’s moved.

People have been saying for weeks that he wants to play game 1,000 before he’s traded. Why would anyone expect the rumour mill to be active around him right now? Fletcher is probably fielding offers from a bunch of teams, and he’ll give Giroux a bit of freedom in selecting his own path. Won’t be much smoke at all until the deal happens imo, which should be Fri/Sat of next week.

Seems like a standard offer for a player that is top 5 in total points in the 2010 decade.
Well if he were in his prime I'd say absolutely, he's had a hell of a career but he's 34 & what he did closer to 2010 really doesn't matter; we're not even in that decade anymore. Still a great player but he's been under PPG in each of his last 3 seasons.

Chara's for sure a future HOF D & one of the best of the 2010 decade, by this standard he would return a boatload too?

1st + definitely, wide variance in what that '+' or prospect could be though. How open Giroux is to suitors should really impact that +/prospect with his NMC.

Luckily for them they do have holding onto their captain as leverage or motive too.

Contending teams don’t have much cap space, girioux even max retained is still 4.2 mil
who the heck even has room for that cap

I'm not an expert like you obviously are, but wouldn't it really be under $2 mil? Season's more than half over, right.........

He’s a one and done rental who makes a ton of money. He’s probably 99% re-signing in Philadelphia this summer. He also has a NMC. All of these are going to severely limit his value. Look at what a guy like Jarome Iginla got. Same situation. Conditional 2nd becomes a 1 if team advances to their conference final, another pick and a decent prospect.

Is it very quiet regarding trade rumours because no one is willing to go the rental route? Seems like GM’s are not as willing to give up assets for just the rest of this season and playoffs. Which I don’t understand . Why not go for it ? Your window is only open for so long . Most teams have suffered for several seasons before finally becoming contenders yet when they are finally ready to compete , no one is willing to push their chips all in? I understand nkt wanting to mortgage the future for a player that’s a rental but still… go for it ! The chance might not come around again for a lone time. Lightning had the right idea by overpaying for the pieces they thought for the roster. However , Goodrow and Coleman were on the team for two playoff runs. Maybe that’s the minimum teams are looking for instead of a traditional rental situation?
I just think teams like the Avs currently have the best roster they are going to have as Kadri and Nuke might be on the way out for cap reasons. Sakic is almost too conservative . Who knows though , maybe teams are asking crazy prices on their rentals like asking for a Newhook like return for a Giroux?

Colorado does if Compher is part of the deal.

edit: Never mind, I didn't realize he has 2 years left

This is just stupid. Giroux is the best player on his team last couple years in addition to the 2010 decade. Hoping he’s going to fall off a cliff like Chara when you have Pavelski still wrecking the league at his age is silly. And yeah we know the flyers have been ass which is why his counting stats, while best on the team, aren’t higher

Lol no way in hell is it only a conditional 2nd unless the prospect is an A-level guy

Eh he had his best season closer to today than 2010. He was under a PPG three seasons in a row earlier in his career and then he put up 187 points over his next two seasons. He's a player who has never been fast, never been limited by that, and is always extremely effective at both ends of the ice. The points vary depending on who and what is around him, since he is primarily a playmaker (and one of the very best in the league, probably still). When he is playing with other players who are remotely creative/intelligent, the points pile up. When he is playing with morons on a team with a heinously broken power play, yeah he'll score 65. But he hasn't "slown down" considerably or gotten stupider or worse at passing or trying. Throw him on a contender and he'll just do his thing.

Comparing him to f***ing Chara at 44 is insane.

Dumb. He’s been fantastic and best player on the team. Best forechecker, best playmaker, best everything

ohh a thousand pardons….his production looks off to me since the serious trade talk (since Feb 1, 14 games, 2g, 6 pts), but if he’s still “fantastic” at that output, I‘ll defer to you lol….

He had his highest point total then, but he was a much more dangerous player from 10-14. His numbers in 17-18 had more to do with a change in system the Flyers were playing, and his playoffs that year was horrendous.

He didn't fall off a cliff, but he looks to be past his prime. Giroux was an even better player in his prime than he is now.
