I am not siding with Fletcher but for many years on here weren't people sick and criticizing management of bringing back old ex-Flyers to the club to play out their last days in a "country club" atmosphere?

Seems to me, Fletcher (although a moron) is in a no-win scenario on all fronts...
There is a difference in people like Gagne, Giroux, possibly Couts in the future, lifelong Flyers who were difference makers for many years, finishing their careers here and bringing back random schmucks or hiring any guy who played a single game in a Flyers jersey in a managerial role.

In fact, that's probably how Zito knew, because only a slime ball would lead on Sakic or another GM, have them lose out on other potential trades, just to pressure Zito.
Do that once or twice and your phone will stop ringing.
So you bend over for other teams all the time and cost your own job so your phone will ring?

And yet you defend Howie Roseman also despite him being labeled as the least trust worthy GM in the NFL.

Pick a lane.

Fletcher isn't an outsider. He was Clarke's AGM at Florida. He's just another crony, brought in because he thinks exactly like everyone already here.

ASF: Inside the organization, the feeling is that the trade is not great but acceptable. ASF says Zito felt he knew he was the only guy in and wanted to make what was a fair deal.

This one is going to be the killer:

ASF: "broken relationship" between Fletcher and Giroux. Doesn't think Giroux will come back while Fletcher is here, and Fletcher isn't going to look to re-sign him. He thinks that if Giroux would've taken a hometown discount to come back ($4-4.5M), it would've happened earlier in the season, but now that is "zero"

hahaaaa.... remember when we said early on the Fletch would ruin this Org.

well there you go..

eat it up.....

A perennial LOSER like Fletcher is always in a no-win situation.

We clearly know the organization does not prize individualism, and they prioritize someone who respects the hierarchy of the organization structure.

Hextall got fired because he didn't play ball with the dinosaurs.

G isn't a washed up played by any means. If the deal is trash Fletcher had to reject it... It's two days before the deadline.
And if Florida goes elsewhere and G decides to stay put . . .
Sometimes you make the best of a bad situation and move on
Fletcher now has $4.25M of cap room to use to sweeten a Braun or Brassard deal.

Wait, I was watching Turning Red with the family and I'm not back-reading the thread, but from what I'm glimpsing on the last page or so, did Giroux offer to open things up to more teams if he got an assurance from Chuck that they'd bring him back next year, and then Chuck said, "No thanks, we're good."

Is that what's really being reported?

f***ing hell.

Handing all leverage to your opposition while trading them a star player is good management?

How do you not guarantee your franchise player that you will re sign him in the offseason if that is what he wants? How are the flyers simultaneously the old boys club and also have no loyalty to their loyal players?

My schizo-conspiracy brain thinks that Bobby Clarke and crew felt his legacy was being overshadowed by the greatness of Giroux, like it was with Lindros, conspiring to get rid of him. How else could they be this stupid?
