Ok does anyone really think Canadian goal differential will matter at all though?

If you don't want them to back off, that's fine. But there's no way the goal differential is relevant anymore
The teams get reseeded after the quarters. So there is a extremely likely scenario of a tie breaker coming into play with the 1st place team from Group B.

IIHF rules stipulate that if a goal is reviewed and deemed to be illegitimate due to a clock discrepancy.

Then, both teams must restart play from the time at which this discrepancy occurred.

In short, both teams will have to play again tomorrow and start from the beginning of the 2nd period.

This is a total troll.

Yeah and playing defence has it's consequences as I mentioned in my post.

I don't see that as "salty" at all which would imply they are upset they are losing... It's practice for the teams that will actually matter.

I don't want to see any kids get embarrassed either but it shouldn't be up to the Canadian players to "let up". If the IIHF has a real problem with it create some sort of mercy rule at a 10 goal differential. Even that would be silly though imo.
Playing defense against a team that has thrown in the towel isn't all that hard nor dangerous. Germany isn't taking runs.

And practicing against decidely outmatched opponents doesn't make you any better becuase you can do the exact opposite of what you are supposed to, and STILL score.

And also as a German I have 0 problem with running up the score. I would rather lose 20-1 while my opponent gives everything than go out 8-0 knowing my opponent played at like 50%. It's a competition and imo the most respect someone can give you is when he is giving it everything he has. As long as you dont celebrate every goal like its the game 7 ot winner its fine

16-1. This feels like the kind of result you'd see if Germany was playing Canada in international soccer.

We don’t give a shit about mens soccer in Canada.

Womens soccer is bigger here than mens.

Football (the real NA kind) >>>> Futbol AINEC

Imagine our guys have to play the 3rd game in 3 days with 14 skaters lmao. That would be a next level troll job from the IIHF
