German football season 2023/24

Mazraoui, Laimer, maybe someone like Chalobah/Geertruida...and I won't be surprised if they play with all 3 of de Ligt, Upamecano, and Kim next to Davies/Guerreiro.
Yeah, they played with a 3CB + LB back 4 under Nagelsmann at times last year. Pavard would nominally be a RB but it would mostly shift into a back 3 and then just let Davies do his thing roaming the left side.

Mazraoui has been solid most every occasion I've watched them, so I don't think they are necessarily hurting by this.

Agreed. Mazraoui isn't as dynamic as Davies or Raphael on the left, but he's a very good RB...especially playing across from such attacking FBs as though two. They do need more defensive depth, but I think they need a CB more than a RB. Mazraoui, Laimer/Kimmich, Upamecano/4thCB, is perfectly fine depth to balance their LWBs with.

Yeah, agreed. Funny as it sounds, quality questions aside, Dier isn't actually an awful fit as he provides CB depth but can also play as a true 6 (or RB I guess).

How has Xhaka looked so far in BuLi?

Really well so far. He looks energized by the move and his passing radius from those deeper midfield areas is a welcome relief to a Leverkusen side that has opted for tenacity over finesse in that part of the pitch since Ballack & Ze Roberto left them.

Will be curious to see if his passion can help them not Leverkusen all over themselves, or if he'll blow up at the wrong time and play a key part in their eventual season-ruining f*** ups this year.

Because on paper that's a really strong team that seems to finally have addressed their biggest issues to have excellent depth across the roster which complements each other well.

The more of that Tottenham energy they can bring to FC Hollywood the better :naughty:

Mouki should ask for a loan to 1.FCU if BorussiaCorp buys another Modeste to close this window...I know Berisha is no Modeste, but that ruins the joke...

With Becker & Fofana banged up, he could slide right in next to Behrens and see how much more fun scoring goals at the alte forsterei is when you're doing it for the home team...

They have looked scary so far, albeit one was against a BMG team that looks like they could be relegation candidates. Also a bit more technical skill across the lineup which I think makes them a more dynamic team even despite the loss of Diaby's speed (and of course they still have Frimpong for that). Helps that Boniface has also hit the ground running.

Has been exactly what they've needed in the midfield behind Wirtz so far.

Thanks brethren. So he's playing deeper back? He looked brilliant in an attacking role last season, but glad he was able to carve himself as a DLP because I didn't think he would have those attributes due to his lack of IQ under pressure.

He's been part of a double-pivot alongside Palacios; with a back 3 behind them; Grimaldo & Frimpong bombing up the wings; and Wirtz-Hofmann in free roles off of Boniface.

Xhaka & Palacios take turns pushing forward to take advantage of the space Wirtz creates; with the back 3 giving them extra cover.

Werder Bremen is a funny football club. They don't work with the local newspaper. I don't know why, but they don't do it for ages.
They used to work with the "Syker Nachrichten" wich is nearby in a small town in lower saxony. Nowadays they seem to work with a paper called "Deichstube".

Why do I write this?

Bild reports (original sources are Deichstube and Ruhrnachrichten)
Dortmund and Bremen are talking a trade, Füllkrug for Moukoko plus 20m.
I think it's bs, but funny if it happens.

It's most likely BS. The mouki loan rumor came up because BVB didn't want to pay 15+bonuses.

According to Bild and kicker Füllkrug does his medical at BvB.
Talk is the fee will be something around 15m. No 20m plus Mou.

Kane's had less support, but he's also done less with it. So I dunno if Kane can hit the same highs that Lewa has, even if he's never been as ineffectual as Lewa is for his NT. That's why I won't be surprised if he never matches Lewa's tallies for FC Hollywood.
I’m just not sure he’s done less with it.

His goal scoring numbers don’t come near Lewa’s (who has 5 seasons with more goals than Kane’s best scoring season, 2017-18), but the gap between their all-around play is IMO very significant.

Two seasons in a row BVB signing the best striker from another Buli team late in the window.

Gladbach is bringing in Jordan from Union Berlin.
The US international will be loaned with an option to buy.

In other news our keeper and captain(Jonas Omlin) might need shoulder surgery and could be out for months, potentially even the first half of the season.

Not a good sign for a club in transition with a huge rebuild going on.
I also don't really like the backup otpions and I'm not sure if Olshovsky is even available and healthy right now.

Goes to show you how much luck we had with Sommer who hardly ever missed a game during his 8.5 years at Gladbach.

Also, it seems like Elvedi won't go anywhere as neither Wolves nor Everton seem to be really interested in paying the price we ask for.
Though, that might not be bad cause Elvedi can play right back as well as center back and we need help at the fullback positions.

Done deal, until summer of 2026. I read somewhere he makes 6m per year,

It's not quite Lewandowski but BVB can now claim they have the reigning Bundesliga top scorer until Kane wins it this year.

Heidenheim is going to have a long season but I do like Beste on their midfield.

Expectations weren't high at this point but I wouldn't have thought they'd give Heidenheim their first point, but here were are.

Looked like they'd do the needed job but the 2nd half is the worst I've seen this team play in a long while.

That''s three really mediocre performances to start the season and they're probably lucky to be sitting on 5 points instead of 2, and that's with a starting schedule that looked like it should have been an easy 9. It's not even like they are integrating that many new players into the mix--granted will take a while to adapt to Jude being gone. Freiburg has struggled against them the last several meetings, so I'm expecting they'll get back on track next matchday, but Terzic probably starts feeling uncomfortable if they don't.

Mediocre is extremely generous.
