The kids do not play special teams so in a game with more penalties I'm not surprised they played less. In the future they might play special teams. Chytil could play short handed if we have another guy to take faceoffs with him.
Strome got a minute on PK. Give that to Kakko. I'd love to give his PP time to Laf too. But if GG fights TDA, i'll jump right on the bandwagon. All in.

I could see KK playing shorthanded in the future. If Strome was out there it may have been as another faceoff guy or to get the next line set up for whoever was coming out of the box. I'm not a Strome hater. Yesterday he was skating and hitting. I think Copp has actually declined a bit while Strome has stayed around the same level in this series.

He usually says what he likes and doesn't like in a game. He didn't like the cheap shot cross check when the game was over. He just, not so subtly, put out a warning that we can play that game too. Good for him.
right, he'll respond to questions with things like "i thought it was a bad hit" or "i didnt agree with the call but the refs have a tough job" at most. he never goes into details, says words like cheap shot, or talks about the other team in a negative/confrontational tone. hes never emotional, at all, talking about games. when pitt started grabbing guys and throwing punches at the buzzer earlier in the year, the hit on motte, mcdermid chasing trouba all over the ice wanting to fight, malkin cross checking rooney in the face late etc - theres at least 100 things that went on this year as bad or worse than that crosscheck and none of them had him bat an eyelash. they know whos on our roster.

theres more too it than we have a tough guy for him to have that kind of public reaction to a nothing crosscheck. more like subtly working the refs to be on the lookout for bs or wanting to build up a narrative for his team to come out with their hair on fire tmrw and not have a letdown

Anyone see GG yelling at Laf on the bench right next to his ear? A guy like Laf is going to grow so much in this one PO run alone and GG should get credit for some of that.
I saw him going down the entire bench in the third when they were struggling to get it out of their zone for 3 or 4 shifts. They responded immediately and the goal came shortly after. He's very effective in those situations because he's mostly calm and steady.

Ferraro also said on the broadcast right before that goal Gallant was going up and down the bench telling the forwards to start moving their asses.

I was watching it from an online stream. I didn't have the volume on but I could tell what was going on . He really has their respect and attention. I'd love to know what was going through their thoughts the game before when he was shouting at TDA to shut the f**k up.

It goes to show that a light touch for 99% of the time is a great strategy for those 1% times where you need to yell at your team. I really dig his style.
He is VERY careful with his words especially with the media, so obviously there is more though behind his style than he would probably admit. I would guarantee that he is a believer in that the less you say, the more the words have significance.

Gallant gives a good act at times in front of the microphone, disavowing any claim to motivational speeches or any sort of clever ways with his players. But remember he very pointedly called his Rangers “soft” after their embarrassing Game 4 loss in Pittsburgh last round. All those soft guys did was rally from a 3-1 series deficit and from a goal or two down in each game to advance.

After a dull Game 5 effort in Raleigh, N.C., on Thursday, Gallant said his team “looked tired.” All the Rangers did next was outscore Carolina 11-4 in the last two games to reach the Eastern Conference final.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
The regular season made Gallant look great.

The playoffs have made him look worrisome at best.

You finally break up the lines with 5 mins to go only to play everyone on their off-wings? Questionable.
This post hasn’t aged well. GG out coached St. Rod. Several small smart adjustments.

Gallant coached this team to the eastern conference finals while David Quinn couldn't even coach us through one game without a too many men penalty.
Quinn was such an abomination of a coach. I have no idea how that experiment lasted as long as it did. Jack Eichel single handedly got that man 3 unquestioned years behind the bench of one of the biggest teams in the league. I’m so f***ing glad his intentions are gone from this team

And don't forget the sprints in the Penn series

Remember when people wanted Gallant fired down 3 to 1 vs Penguins.... odd, don't see them posting very much around here lately.

Many of us just get frustrated by some of his decisions related to the kids. Breaking up that line was nonsensical. Made game 5 much less winnable. He fixed his mistakes, and that line scored 3 in 2 games. They need to play more and it's obvious.

Overall, can't argue with the results. Just want him to give minutes based on what is being earned on ice. That seems fair, right?

one thing about turk that I think is big for where this team is and where it may go this post season is he has more or less refused to run 4 d even in all the elimination games. he has gone spurts of rolling with 4 but he hasnt done it over the entirety of 5 elimination games like we have seen some other coaches panic and do in the past. he has let schneider play through this all and avoided panicking back to the veteran nemeth. as we get into this next series having 3 d pairs that can play and having allowed the 20 year old to grow through the pains earlier in the post season will be huge. you have no chance beating tb with 4 d, and especially with lindgren being held together with clear tape...

Anybody else notice the major changes he made in games 6 and 7 to get them past the forecheck of the Staal line especially? It didn't work every single time, but they completely changed their breakout tactics and it seemed like every single puck was coming out of the offensive zone lofted into the air into the neutral zone with a Ranger player rushing on. Didn't work every single time either, but it broke the forecheck which destroyed the Rangers in Carolina for three games this series. Pretty impressive for a guy who "doesn't believe in changing tactics and just let's them play."

In an alternate reality where Tom Wilson doesn't piledrive Panarin into the ice, the Eichel/Quinn led Rangers would've lost in 5 to Pittsburgh.

The eichel/Quinn rangers don’t make the playoffs…
No Schneider, Nemeth and tinordi are prob our bottom pair all season.
Shesty likely doesn’t have the season he did.
The kids don’t have anywhere near 10+ minutes per game.
