Gallant isnt the X's and O's guy on the rangers. Thats Mike Kelly. Kelly is the guy who designs the systems for gallant, and gallant has preferences in how he likes to play (roll 4 lines, roll 3 pairs) thats not what he has with the rangers. He's rolling 3 lines and 3 pairs.

Gallant isnt the most analytically friendly guy, but he also has things he keeps track of, and teams have their own in house analytics that are likely better than any public data.

He took a team that last year was basically .500, and with some minor additions made them a home ice team in his first year.
He got us through injuries and slowly developed some of our young players while also pushing our vets to play some of their best hockey of their career.

He's the guy who gets a vet to lay their body out for a block, or guys like mika and panarin to throw the occassional hard body check.

Gallant has his team believing that the team is greater than the individual and to buy into his plan.
It may have a short lifespan if there isn't great results, but this year, everyone's clearly all in.
The smile on laf and kakko's faces during press conferences.
The jokes that panarin and mika are saying.

Those are more important than individual numbers.

The players have repeated it over and over, everyone has bought into the gallant. That's not something that quinn got. Quinn had his guys, and if you weren't his guy, you didnt get his attention, and you didnt get coaching.
Good points, especially that last paragraph.

Can you? We have this goalie coach who has had a decent run of turning out stars.
How you play in front of the goalie also determines a ton in terms of whether he can win a vezina. Yes, it’s an individual effort, but this team lets him see more shots than they did last year.

That's what taking a team from .500 under your predecessor to winning 2 out of 3 with no significant roster improvement will do for you.

To be fair, if Igor was only slightly better than last year instead of the Vezina winning game stealer he became, we wouldn't be seeing this post because we would have been focusing on our draft position for a few months.

GG deserves credit. The team doesn't quit. The players seem happy to be under his leadership. But he isn't without blame. Why did it take so long to realize Nemeth was killing us? Play the kids more. Etc.

There is a definite middle ground. He has shown he is willing to correct mistakes. Hope it continues!

This argument needs to die. Look at Georgiev's record and look at the Islanders record. We would be the second wild card if Igor was slightly better than last year. Georgiev sucks and he had a better record than the Islanders percentage-wise who finished 9th. People need stop repeating this.

Ok. If we snuck in as a wild card there still wouldn't be the insane GG defending that happens here. People criticize every player at every moment but the coach can't be questioned? He's done a good job. Play the damn kids more. It's so damn obvious it hurts. Watch the game. Look at the analytics. They need to be on the damn ice.

I think they may force his hand.

Panarin and his line are going to play themselves out of ice time.

The regular season made Gallant look great.

The playoffs have made him look worrisome at best.

You finally break up the lines with 5 mins to go only to play everyone on their off-wings? Questionable.

Like the line changes although the kids minutes didn't change much. Actually less than before somehow.

Loved chirping Tony after the game. That might have been my favorite GG moment all year.

Gallant continues to show why he's a great fit for these guys! Certainly allowed them to open up a bit defensively and generate a bit more offense in game 3. He continues to seriously push the right buttons more often than not. The fact that he gave it to Tony after the game and tried to stand up for his guys even though he could not get on the ice shows just what a likeable guy he is. My sense is he is the kind of coach that lets his players lead and he sticks up for them in the media, with the refs, and even occasionally with the other team. He's the kind of guy I'd seriously love to play for.

Also, the staff looks in tune too. I loved how both Kelly and Murphy were also giving it to Tony and were standing outside the locker room to personally great all the players after their huge game 6 win in Pittsburgh. I don't think the Rangers have had better coaching in a long time!

very unlike gallant to bring any in game nonsense/drama into the media, like hasnt made a point to call out a single call / hit etc since he arrived...theres been far worse than domis crosscheck and who cares if tonys yapping. feels like a big brain move

He usually says what he likes and doesn't like in a game. He didn't like the cheap shot cross check when the game was over. He just, not so subtly, put out a warning that we can play that game too. Good for him.

The more we muck it up the better our chances. He can then roll 4 lines most of the time. If Carolina wants to be tough guys good let them come we will focus on winning both in the corners and the game. They don't have an answer for Trouba much less Reeves we are far the bigger more physical team despite Tony D and Domi trying their best.

His postgame comments were brilliant. Making something out of basically nothing adds some extra spice to the series and gets his team fired up. Maybe he felt that with all the ex Rangers over there his team was a bit too cordial.

The kids do not play special teams so in a game with more penalties I'm not surprised they played less. In the future they might play special teams. Chytil could play short handed if we have another guy to take faceoffs with him.
