What a whirlwind 24 hours it has been. In what was perhaps the toughest weekend all season, we came away with wins in Tampa and Carolina. This is such a revelation. We have officially stamped ourselves a genuine playoff contender. One that will make a run for it in the post season. This last win shows how we can do it.

When we were obviously tired and not at our best, we still kept the game tight giving ourselves a chance to win. The Canes came at us with everything they got, and we turned them aside with great goaltending, a super stingy defense and timely goals. This is a recipe for a playoff run. You can't discount the fact that the Canes are a very good team and played a great game. They play a five man unit up and down the ice. They always have outlets in their own zone and support up the ice. This makes it very difficult to forecheck them, and also makes it difficult for their opponents to carry the puck up the ice. We had to flip the puck quite often to get out of the zone, they are that good. They don't allow you puck possession to carry it up ice because all 5 are waiting in the neutral zone ready to take away your time and space.

But we did what we needed to do to break through. By being patient, not forcing turnovers, playing sound defensively, and attacking when the opportunity presented itself.

Some might say were out played. But you have no idea how hard it is to play well defensively. You gotta be all in as a team or you might as well forget it. And we were all in,.... and came away with a great win against a great team.

Ref's blew the play dead because they "lost sight of the puck" but it was loose with the Canes goalie flat on his back and out of the play. I'm sure we would have found a way to stuff it up, but it would have 99% been a goal if they didn't stop the game
Thank you. Wish the ref gave Igor that benefit of the doubt yesterday.

Dude you bitch about people complaining but you’re just as bad

Did I say he was not going to be a stud?

Having depth on D to potentially replace our 20 year old rookie defenseman in the playoff chase as needed is not some out of this world idea lmao

lookout, homer police are out to enforce the correct level of everyone’s fandom.

Well everything about tonight went the way I would have guessed with the exception of the score. Hats off to Geo tonight, only star for me.

Well that's a lie, it somehow was worse. On the shortlist for worst effort of the season. But they got it done so I guess I give them that.

The effort was fine. This was probably the toughest game of the year given the opponent last night, the travel, the less than 24 hour turnaround, and the opponent tonight. The fact that they won is both gutsy and lucky but I'll take it and run.

I’m not putting much stock into this one being some sort of metric that we are for real because we “found a way.”

We got run out of the gym.

The goalie stole the game even more than usual.

Maybe we will be blessed with a playoff run where our goalies steal us four rounds in a row, but I doubt it.

Lookit, it’s nice that we are gonna get playoff experience for the kids and all that, but this game changes absolutely nothing about how I feel about this team. They didn’t look like they belonged in the same league as the Hurricanes tonite.

I understand it was a back to back but does everyone playing a back to back get outshot like 3 to 1?

I meant effort as in "performance" not literally their effort level...I agree with everything you said. Fully expected a tough outing, not gonna beat it up too much, but this was absolutely top to bottom one of the worst performances of the season.

St. Louis was far worse and I mean far worse. Way more high quality chances. Also didn't hurt that the Blues were actually converting.

Total hogwash. How could anybody say shutting out perhaps the top team in the league was one of their worst performances of the season. Do you hear yourself?

If you think a goalie can shutout a team all by himself,... think again.

We didn't lose 7-0, we won and shut them out.

They were pinned in their own zone almost the entire night. It was not a good performance.

Understandable, perhaps, given the opponent and the back to back, but they generated almost nothing all game, had a terrible time getting the puck out of their zone, were a wet noodle on the power play, and appeared to be skating in mud.

As good as Georgiev played tonight, we really missed Shesterkin’s puck playing ability. Tons of dump ins and rim arounds that he would’ve stopped and thwarted the forecheck but instead led to sustained zone time. Could be something to look for when Igor plays them and see how it changes our look against them.
Wow. You gonna nitpick a guy who usually would have given up 6 on a night like this? Hahaha
