They were pinned in their own zone almost the entire night. It was not a good performance.

Understandable, perhaps, given the opponent and the back to back, but they generated almost nothing all game, had a terrible time getting the puck out of their zone, were a wet noodle on the power play, and appeared to be skating in mud.
Shocking how that could occur after playing a real tough playoff type game in Tampa less than 24 hours before this game began and getting in at 3am and having to play a very good Carolina team that had lost 3 straight. It was obvious they were gassed and anybody expecting a good performance tonight was delusional. The fact that they got 4 points on what was probably the toughest set of B2B games all year was outstanding. Analyzing SOG and chances in this game is absurd. You take the points and run.

Pinned in their own zone all night. Playing a back to back in less than 24 hours, on the road no less. Generated nothing all game. Playing a great opponent, skating in mud, a wet noodle power play and whatever other expressions you which to apply might be applicable,....

Is why overcoming all these obstacles,... makes this one of the best wins we had all season. You don't shutout a team totally sleep walking. Sorry.
Could they have played better? Absolutely. But under the circumstances given, for them to shutout the Canes is just outstanding.

And not to take anything away from Georgie's great performance, but we did this without Shesty in net? How unlikely is that?

This is actually a great point. We just played two such teams in Dallas and St. Louis and failed miserably. Looks like while not a perfect performance they learned something.

K' Andre has really turned a corner. I thought maybe he would revert back to being soft and avoid taking the body, but he is proving me wrong. He had another two hits tonight. And it looked like he had more than that. But anyway, he is using his strength to push people around and it is very noticeable. I don't know why the change, but I been waiting for him to be more aggressive. And now we are going to rave about him like never before. He's been crushing people lately. One day they might fear him like they fear Reavo.

I was expecting the perfect storm tonight and everything pointed to a loss. I mean everything. This is one game you don't over analyze. You take the points and run. Period.

Wow. You gonna nitpick a guy who usually would have given up 6 on a night like this? Hahaha
No, no, no lol not at all. I gave major props to him in an earlier post, he was obviously fantastic and the only reason we won tonight. It’s just an observation as to how Igor’s puck playing ability could’ve possibly helped us ease up some of the zone time Carolina was generating frequently coming off of dump ins.

B2B, Georgie starting, less than 24 hours due to Bettman's usual scheduling bullshit.

If you honestly thought we'd shutout win this I want some of what you're smoking because everyone I know had this pencilled in as something different.

Having said THAT - probably one of fave wins of the seasons (after yesterday of course).

Hence why I said “understandable, perhaps.”

But take away the reasoning and the game was a shitburger. They were terrible and Georgiev (shockingly) bailed them out. It might have been the best performance of any NYR goalie all season, which is saying something when you have the future Vezina winner on your roster too.

Don’t think anyone is trying to hand the points back. I was at the game and screamed till I was hoarse.

But everyone there could see they got outplayed dramatically, that’s all. Yes, it happens on back to backs against good teams.

At the same time I’m not gonna overreact and call it any kind of statement. It’s the same thing they’ve been doing all year - get outplayed and the goalie bails them out. It’s been their M.O. and will continue to be for the rest of this season. They are going as far as Shesterkin takes them.

We sure that is was the intent? Anderson's head got hit with a stick while he was on his back. I think they wanted to play it dead so he wouldn't get smacked around.

Anderson also put himself in a vulnerable position outside the crease and the refs bailed him out

They were outplayed and this is not debatable but there are obvious reasons why which have already been stated. They also just went toe to toe with Tampa the night before and won. The playoff roster will be quite different than then the roster that has been iced for much of this year. Vatrano and whomever they get before the deadline will likely make this team deeper and more dangerous. They will also be getting Kakko and Rooney back as well. These additions push AHL players out of the lineup, Hunt down to the 4th line and gives us a pretty good 3rd line. That makes them a lot more complete team and they of course have the best goalie in the world and a very good coach.

Best game of Georgie's career in NY.

I wish Strome would have decked Tony D for that crosscheck at the end.

The shutout has been sensational to experience today, but people forget Georgie had some great performances in the past, especially against TO

Hopefully he keeps upping the ante for himself to help deal him in the off season, because I think Drury stands pat tomorrow with goaltending.

This is exactly the situation where the skaters need the goalie to steal one, and that’s what happened. It’s a long season and good teams find various ways to win. Sometimes it’s beautiful. Sometimes it’s ugly.

FWIW, for all the speculation about Georgiev being some sort of deeply loathed locker room cancer, I watched the end-of-game celebrations very closely and there was nothing on view but huge smiles and hugs. The guy hasn't been happy, has a pretty flat demeanor, and should mask his discontent better. But he's pretty doing the team no harm except when he delivers a poor on-ice performance. Drury cannot possibly risk moving this guy before the offseason. Kinkaid or Huska are in nets last night, we lose 6-1.

Never forget :noway:

My thinking too. The guy has been poorly developed and as a result has been a mope. He should have handled things better, especially considering he hasn’t played up to his contract. But i also don’t see him as a ‘cancer’. Just a bit of a wet blanket. I am troubled by him elevating his performance today when it - apparently - benefits him. But that could be mental as well. All in all I want him gone but don’t really have any ill will for him. Despite some jokes at his expense here and there.
