Atari, NES, Genesis, and all the PlayStations are the consoles I've had. My friends had the SNES and Xbox, I didn't like the controllers.

I remember playing SegaCD (I wanted one after that) and watching movies on laser disc a few times at a friends house in high school.

Sega CD is likely part of the reason the Saturn never got much past the launch. They waited too long for it. They kept trying to juice the Genesis up with the 32x and the Sega CD attachments, that by the time they committed to the Saturn, the Playstation was ready to blow through the doors... at a cheaper price.

I feel like I'm doing nothing else aside from buying time until Elden Ring is released (I haven't been more excited for a a game ..... ever, probably). Started the FF7 remake. It's good! Definitely hits the nostalgia buttons. One thing that's weird though are the animations. Obviously comparing polygon characters to next gen graphics characters.... but Cloud and the rest seem to be 1/2 anime adaption, Sephiroth on the other hand seems to be 150% anime. And it's kind of a bummer. I think I was a freshman, maybe a sophomore, in HS when that game released and he was the ULTIMATE video game bad guy at the time and now he seems kind of lame.

The feeling of scale in the original game had is hard to replicate 25 years later. Spending hours scrapping through a city that already felt massive only to be dumped outside and realize that it was Act 1 of ? was downright disorienting in 1997. And there were a lot of other moments sprinkled throughout that felt huge and probably come off as quaint today.

The plot was always goofy (though I guess that's always relative with JRPGs...) but the sense of scale always lent things a sense of weight, even when it got ridiculous. Especially when you're like 13-16 years old and every song/TV show/movie/video game is the most important thing that ever happened.

I liked the remake a lot...the Intergrade DLC with Yuffie was a decent amount of fun too. The game looks just incredible...maybe one of the best looking games I've ever played. Love the music and the slight changes to some of the old tracks.

Yeah I definitely agree that the story had its weird moments and there were some boring side quests but I really liked the combat and trying to come up with a strategy against some of the enemies. I think they tried too hard to wedge Sephiroth into the game when he's not really supposed to show up quite yet, but overall I didn't care too much about it. Who knows when the next game is going to come out and how much of the original it's going to cover, but can't wait for when it does eventually come out.

Other than that, been playing/catching up on some of the games I've missed. Played through Ratchet and Clank on PS5 and it was a ton of fun. Looks amazing.

Picked up the new Pokemon Arceus Legends game because I had seen some good reviews...I haven't played a Pokemon game since like Diamond I think? None of the new ones looked interesting. This one is fun, though, and way different.

Going to be a crazy month with both Horizon 2 and Elden Ring coming.

I just bought Horizon 2. It's a 77.5 gig file that it is copying onto my ps4, so it's not a put in the disk and play game.

Dynasty warriors 9 got remade so it looks playable now. I'll get the eventually, but that is an on sale game for me. I can get my hack and slash fix from the older versions I have.

Have been playing Horizon 2 since Saturday afternoon...my goodness that game just looks incredible visually. You can just stop and look around and everything has detail. I don't have a top of the line brand new TV but it still has HDR/etc. and I'm not sure I've ever seen such a good looking game. Someone else said it well, this is (so far at least) the first time I've felt like I'm playing a next gen game.

I'm liking the combat again too, but I'm not surprised with that with how much I liked it in the first one. Excited to spend a ton of time with it.

It's a great time again for games...Elden Ring in a few days, Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster coming this week. I feel like I'm missing some other ones...I was interested/intrigued by that Triangle Strategy game but we'll see how the reviews look.

I'm holding off on HZD til it drops in price. Just had to re-beat Demons Souls in prep for Elden Ring. Remains to be seen if I'll get GT7 the following week lol

The inventory system is so much better than HDZ. I'm one of those see a plant, pick that plant people. The extra just go into you stash instead of having to dump inventory every 10 mins.

If you look into the settings there are a couple of nice options like having all the climb spots always highlighted. There is a quickswap option for your weapons too, not sure why it's turned off as the default setting. It makes combos much easier than the wheel select.

The graphic are really good on the ps4 (still no 5 for me). I can't wait to really get into the game. Leaving town for about a week, so it's mostly just been doing some side quests, running around killing things, and collecting loot.

Elden Ring reviews started being allowed/let out at 9 this morning...and so far there are a ton of high #'s. Game Informer (Dan Tack) gave it a 10/10.

I was maybe going to wait a little bit for a sale eventually but might be a game I have to pick up right away.

Getting insanely good reviews, which doesn't surprise me. This has always been a minute 1 purchase for me and I even took Friday off so I could play it for a while. Unfortunately my weekend is shot so I won't be able to play again until Monday which bums me out. A little concerned about the open world part of it along with comparisons to BOTW as I found BOTW incredibly boring. But I have full faith and trust in Michael Zaki and From. Pumped....

I'm assuming you've been spending a ton of time with Elden Ring?

I'm putting off starting it until I'm completely done with Horizon Forbidden West...I wasn't sure how much I was going to do in this game but it's turning into a game I think I want to 100%. I'm constantly awed by how good it looks on the PS5. I think I've seen it multiple times out there but I completely agree it is one of the first games that truly feels 'next gen'. Load times are insane for a game that big and that detailed. I've had a couple of minor bugs when I leave the game running instead of 'closing' it but nothing too terrible. I think it's really cool that they provide so many options for how you can play it...like I typically use bows and elements to take stuff down but if you like grenade type things or tripwires or whatever else you can do that too. It's almost overwhelming how many things you can pick from but you don't have to. With all of the different weapons and abilities you can just pick what feels comfortable and move on.

I don't think it's a perfect game but it's like 9.5 for me. It's crazy that two incredible games came out so close to each other. I can't wait to get through this one and on to Elden Ring. Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster came out recently too so that's on the list to get to. Plenty of stuff to still come this year too...kinda want to try Triangle Strategy eventually.

Good time for games.

I've been still playing mostly Apex... But when I don't I have been trying to play cyberpunk now that the PS5 patch is out. I like the world but the game is still kind of lacking... Best way to describe it is like Grand Theft Auto III clone? Hard to explain I guess...

I have been looking into the new horizon game. Will probably pick that up eventually. You guys have got me a little curious about elden ring now too

I'm close to 100% on it now. I'll admit I cheated in the hunting grounds and arena by turning the difficulty to story. The story for them interested me, but the playing of it not so much. I youtubed a couple of vista points too, mostly to get my scan tool back because I was still doing other things in the area.

The pits are good for learning the melee combos, but melee is very underpowered compared to all the other weapons.

So I know you haven't played elden yet... But which one do you think is better elden ring or horizon?

And how is elden ring on difficulty? I thought I remember from a review it said something about dark souls. Assuming it's the same developer? I think they also did armored core which I did like... But the added difficulty on the dark souls series kind of sometimes rubs be the wrong way

It might be too early to ask but no harm in putting it out there I suppose

I just got the platinum trophy for Horizon 2. It's actually achievable by basically just playing the game and none random things like kill 100 monsters at dusk, while wearing a tutu, with the starter bow, and no upgrades (or whatever random BS that takes 30 hrs some game add). The game has me at 95% completion due to missing some random small things that are just tedious (scan all datapoints or every machine variant).

I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10 on the PS4. I had to play with the brightness setting a lot while doing different areas in the game. The gameplay was fun. The story was well written. The different difficulties and the ability to change them whenever you want is a plus for me. I stayed in normal for most of the game, but did try the other levels depending on my mood. Very Hard is a challenge and you need to understand the different ammo and weapon types against different machines. Story mode just hit most everything with a couple of arrows and it's dead.

The only time it got tedious and felt like a grind for me was hunting the animal parts (birds mostly) needed for upgrading the pouches. It would be a grind collecting all the part needed to upgrade the legendary weapons/armor. I tried for a bit, got bored with it, and went back to doing the missions.

It's set up very well for an expansion pack or two. Not just a random new area like HDZ had with their expansion pack.

I quoted this post but I pretty much agree with everything you said on the other one too with your review. I'm guessing it might have gotten one more point or so if you were able to play it on PS5, but never know. Still sucks that people who want to get one still can't...I was extremely lucky to get mine. I feel like we're a little numb to how good things look these days since most everything looks 'good' in games now, but I was consistently wowed by how good this game looked. That + the load times made it feel true next gen, and I would say my TV that I play on is just 'okay'.

Ha, I was thinking about that and the few times the game made me angry and it was the arena and the last (I think?) hunting ground. I don't have the patience to do what it takes for all that stuff...I did the first three training grounds relatively fine but the last one with the Tremortusk made me leave in anger lol. Good to know I can change the difficulty for thos sections if I want to. I've been playing the rest of the game on Hard.

You're right on how crazy it is to upgrade certain things...I felt like I would just collect most of the stuff without trying along the way but no, you really have to search stuff out if you want to upgrade the nice stuff.

Great game!

Yeah that's a great question...I'll probably be starting Elden Ring maybe this weekend? So I'll have more to say on it after that, but it probably comes down to what you're looking for. Yes, Elden Ring was made by From Software who did Dark Souls 1-3, Demon's Souls, Sekiro, and Bloodborne. I've talked about it in here before, but I bounced off Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne but Sekiro is one of my favorite games of all time. So I think it depends which one might click and which one might not.

The difference on this game is it sounds like you have so many more options on what you can do...it's 'open world' Dark Souls. So if you run around and find a boss that is an asskicker you can just go fight something else instead of bashing your head on it over and over. I've been trying not to watch other people play it to avoid spoilers but that's the thing, there are so many people playing it including people who normally don't play those types of games. I think that shows it's more accessible than some of their other games. Still tough, I'm sure, but you have more options this time.

Horizon has a lot of similarities and I'm sure there are reviewers out there who just said it's another Ubisoft-type gigantic map with a bunch of dots type of game but I think it's more than that. It has a big map with a bunch of stuff you can do but it doesn't feel repetitive. There are a ton of different environments and there are so many different ways you can play in terms of combat/weapons/etc.

I really feel like these will be two of the best games all year so if someone can I would recommend getting both of them, but I know that's not always possible. I feel like I'm going to have a hard time picking one over the other in the end :)

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure I might eventually pick up both... But I have had an issue lately of not finishing games I start. I think the last one I actually finished was control and before that was the original horizon... But there have been a few that I have started and not completed for whatever reason... Whether I just take a break from a while and didnt pick it back up or that I didn't like the game. One of those was breath of the wild which from what I can tell has similarities to elden ring, however I did play it quite a bit... I'm more or less just never went to fight Ganon. I also tried bloodborne when it was a free game a while ago and I just couldn't get into it. I suppose both of those points really doesn't sound all that great for elden ring but the open world part of it does intrigue me as I really didn't like that about bloodborne.

If it's reported to have a pretty good story I will usually give it a shot though. There's worse things that I can do then spend 60 bucks on something and only spend a few hours on it.

I finally got a PS5. Needed to buy it as a bundle (~$900) from gamestop. 2 games, the ps5, headphones, a 2nd controller, the console. and a 2 year warranty on everything (I'll burn up a controller in that timespan so it's worth it for me).
-1 games I wanted (GT7), one I didn't a choice between MLB, Ghost of something, or Ratchet and Clank. The Ghost of ??? game is one I really enjoyed but I already own the ps4 version.
-The headphones would have been nice, if I hadn't bought a new pair the day before.
-the disk console. I wouldn't buy a non-disk console.

ghost of tashima or something like that?

Ghost of Tsushima is a great/beautiful looking game. Some minor upgrades on the PS5 version that makes it look even better.
