Hopefully the arrival of Malkin does not mean that the rest of the players start slacking off and think that Malkin will do it all for them. All of they must keep going the way they have done so far. Aggressive forechecking and constant pressure is the only way this team can succeed.

Why would it be? I mean they could have done it long before because Ovechkin is there. Well, now he'll be replaced by Malkin it seems.

If Ovechkin is not seriously injured then RMNB(Russian Machine Never Breaks) indeed.

Ovi update during the FIN-KAZ game by russian anouncers: ligaments are alright! He's a possibility for the semis if we get there. Good news.

Znarok got my respect in no time while Bilya****dinov never deserved a **** of credit. I just love Znarok right now!

I really liked Bykov too. But Bilyaletdinov was the dumbest coach since the fall of USSR.

Bill was just playing with a style that is unsuitable for Russian players.

Russians can't play the trap. Russians don't have the patience to play the trap. Russians need to play that aggressive forechecking game that the Soviet Union played and that Znarok's team has tried to play in this tournament.

Soviet Union perfected that style of play and current Russia is pretty far in behind, but at least Russia is going to right direction.

As for tonights game, Znarok did a dumb thing at the end. He should have controlled his emotions. His team was advancing to final game and he did that! What was he thinking?

What is the status of Plotnikov? He is probably the second most important forward in this team after Tikhonov (yes, more so than Malkin and Ovy).

Political correctness is not as important in Russia as in the West, but Znarok should have been aware of the situation and handled himself better.

This is true. He should have just left Gronborg to make an ass of himself. Self discipline from the coach is then reflected in his playing staff. A well disciplined team is essential to success in any sport.

Russia and Znarok did it!

Znarok transformed this team into a more traditional Soviet/Russian hockey team. I loved the way this team played and I think this team even overachieved a bit if you take a look at the roster Russia had. Russia had players such as Tikhonov, Plotnikov and Kalinin as key roles who are not really elite players in the KHL.

Znarok made this team play the way Russian teams should always play. Forecheck instead of trap. Passing the puck back to own end instead of dumping it in. Cohesive team play. No solo efforts.

Hopefully Russia will continue this style of play.

This was one of the more dominating performances by a team in international hockey in a long while.

From start to finish Russia were basically unstoppable and I'm not even sure they trailed. Very impressive by the Russians.

Trailed in the semies.

Rus fans should stop caring about wins in WHC, and especially post-OG WHC

why is that? You telling me to not care about biggest annual international tourney and only follow it once in 4 years?

WHC is still very important considering a period from 1993 to 2007 when we didn't taste gold. Now, we are back at the top of the hockey world and we should prove it every year. Then we will have a strong winner mentality and win the Olympics too.

congrats on winning but this doesn't put Russia on top. Olympics are the measuring stick. Canada sent 1 Olympic future player in mackinnon and that's it.

Oh boy buddy, even the Russian players would laugh at this comment. Congrats but somewhere in Nova Scotia, a guy with 2 Olympic Gold Medals is not wishing to trade those in for any World Championship Gold medals, common, be realistic in yours posts lol. Olympics is the only measuring stick, just enjoy the win and don't overblow the meaning.

Nah if you feel like you enjoy it, then enjoy your win. Although I think Finns should think same way about whc, but no reason to say things like that when you have won something.

See, the worst is that wins like this make ppl believe this ^

I think we are pretty good, 4 golds, 1 silver in 7 last tournaments.

We've lost Olympics, yes, can't win it all. However, this is definitely an indicator of our hockey moving in the right direction.

Don't underestimate this tournament. What I liked the most about this tournament is that Znarok turned this around and corrected the errors made under Bilyaletdinov (passive trapping style of play).

If the earlier pattern continues, he'll be fired after a few years like Bykov and Bilyaletdinov.
