If the earlier pattern continues, he'll be fired after a few years like Bykov and Bilyaletdinov.
That is a possibility if Znarok loses control of his players.

From what I have read about Znarok he is an extremely authoritarian man and an "old school Russian coach". He does not tolerate any dissent from his players. But at least in this tournaments players seemed to like playing for him.

Coach Bill clearly lost control of his players last year. Znarok brought back the authoritarian methods that Russians need to be successful.

Russia won every game in this tournament in regulation time.

Russia did the same in 2012, but before that we have to go way back the same thing happened: Soviet Union won every game in regulation time in 1989 and 1986.

This win was not a Soviet "trounce every opponent" style of win, but it was a very convincing result. We have to remember that before the tournament Russia was not considered as the number one favorite.

Russia won several games because of paid refs. [mod]

Go to sleep. I'm sure you feel better tomorrow.

Russia was the best team in the tournament. 10 games, 10 wins in regulation time. Hard to beat that.

Probably not. Refs were horrible incompetent and probably their decisions did give advantage to russia today, but not because they were paid, but because they are horrible incompetent.. as they were all tournament long. Relax, its just a skoda cup.

 Yes they were.

Roster advantage they had was even greater than in 2012. It was the least that could be expected from them. If next year other teams get at least some of their best player as well and the result is the same, then we can talk about his true coaching abilities.

Really? Who was considered the favourite then? I had Russia as the clear favourite.

So I heard that Russia had 12 or something debutants, is that right? Anyways even if not, congrats to Russia you deserve(played best hockey) it and you have many great players that are not playing in nhl

It is right, but mostly players with NT experience at some level. Not really out of nowhere guys, except Yakovlev maybe.

Yeah, it doesn't put Russia on top of any ranking by winning with the most stacked roster while other teams had C- or D-teams.

yeah, "most stacked roster"...

Injuries:

out of the tournament: Loktionov, Orlov.

played with injuries: Ovechkin, Anisimov, Plotnikov, Zubarev, Zaripov.

Top scorer: Tikhonov.

Whatever you want to see, it's Russia's C-squad at best too.

The Czechs, Swedes and Canadians. On paper they looked better.

Yes, ironically, none of them in the finals.
I never thought Canada was the favourite and especially not over Russia. Which players on Team Canada do you think made the team a favourite? MacKinnon? He's 18. No, Canada had potential, but not a favourite. Maybe if it was played on the smaller ice surface, this team would have had a better chance.

Was Russia considered the favorite because of Ovechkin? Because apart from him Russia's roster was weaker than usual. No Semin, no Kovy, no Radu. A bunch of unknown defensemen, a bunch of unknown forwards with Ovechkin, Anisimov and Kulemin.

It's not like this is an impressive team on paper.

Its top players were guys such as Plotnikov, Tikhonov, Shirokov, Chudinov, Sergei Kalinin. I had never seen most of them play.

Before the addition of Malkin this was a C+, B- team at best. On paper. They played well together though.

BOBROVSKY! More NHL players than Finland and also had their best forward(s)

you had Rinne. You can't complain about anything now.

Yes we can and quite easily. We had 35 year old Olli Jokinen who is in the twilight of his career and Erik "Who?" Haula, who just finished his first NHL season. Meanwhile Russia had Ovechkin and Malkin. Even match?

We beat you in the first game without Malkin
