I don't see any reason why the league would grant that. We had 4 years to forfeit the pick and Lou missed his chance when we made the finals.

But something tells me Lou will try to fight that ruling regardless. At least i hope so.

Yea he will. He is a stubborn sob but that has been quite the double edge sword lately.

If there are only 30 starting jobs and a big supply of goaltenders that can start and we can offer one of those starting jobs to Schneider in two years along with a reasonable contract, why would he leave?

Because we're presently a old team with not much to offer in terms of prospects at the forward position, a coach that doesn't want to utilise youngsters instead of washed up veterans and if we don't turn this sinking around, I don't see why he'd stay if he'll have the choice of handpicking the team he wants to play for in 18 months.

The league will tell Lou to shove his demands where the sun don't shine and that'll be that.

Like you said, we had 4 years to "fight" the decision, so why wait until the last god damn second to realise there's a fire when there's been a alarm going on for the past 3 1/2 years.

We had our shot when we went to the cup and someone took the dumbest decision this franchise ever made. Acting like you can work everything in you favour will eventually bite you in the ass and it'll bite Lou and the organisation real hard when that human bobble head will step up to the podium to announce that we're forfeiting pick #whatever, with his little ****ing grin on his face.

Lou put Slowe on IR...he wants speed.

"precaution"

I believe the precaution part. Clowe was signed to a large contract and has a history of head injuries recently. He took an elbow to the head. We all know that no player is going to say "I don't want to play." The team made a large investment on the player it's better to be cautious 5 games into a long term deal. That said, it will be good to see Tedenby and some speed in the lineup.

What we need more than anything is a number one defenseman. Yea that's an obvious statement and they're hard to come by, but without one we won't win anything. Phaneuf would be a huge addition if possible. He's not the best, but he's still a number 1 and would put our current group of crap to shame. That needs to be the priority this season/offseason.

Who cares about our blueline, we have Salvador playing over 24 minutes a game, we're good. Add to the fact that Gélinas and Merrill are going to be 32 years of age when they'll get their shot with the big team, they can then pick up the slack when Sal will hang them up. Giving them 12 minutes a piece will fill the 24 minutes DeBoer is giving our captain at the moment.

I was looking through the UFA list and it appears the best D-men available are:
Joni Pitkanen, Ron Hainsey, Stephane Robidas, Kyle Quincey, Jonathan Ericsson, Nick Schultz, Gudbranson and Kulikov are RFA, Andrei Markov, Alexei Emelin, Dan Girardi, Brooks Orpik, Matt Niskanen, Dan Boyle, Dion Phaneuf...

Mike Green and Paul Martin each have one year left after this.

Salvador getting 24 minutes per game is just another reason Deboer sucks as a coach.

He never even averaged 20 minutes per game in his career before Dumbeor got here.

Girardi is massively overrated. I've seen so many bad gaffes from him over the years. He's been awful every game this season so far, and he's got a knack for being atrocious in the playoffs.

Outside of Phaneuf or Boyle, I'd pass on every single one of them.

As much as people dont like him, I would love Dion Phaneuf here

Same here. He's not the most mobile d-man but he brings a little of everything we've been lacking for years now. A hard slapper from the point and a physical presence.

Ok, he does make some bonehead plays once in a while but after watching our blueline for the past several years, it can't be any worse.

Send #28 to Siberia, bring up Gélinas, try and resign Fayne if he actually wants to pick the phone and listen to our offer, let Zidlicky hit the market and we can have a much, much, much better blueline.

Phaneuf-Larsson
Greene-Fayne
Salvador-Gélinas*
Harrold

Yes, there's two left handed d-men on the same pair and I couldn't care less cause I doubt our new HC will be dumb enough to worry about such a stupid and anal thing like having a righty and a left on each duo and will just play our best option night in and night out.

Couldn't agree more. Playing over the hill veterans more minutes then they've ever played threw their entire career doesn't seem like the best of ideas... but what do I know.

@TGfireandice: Martin Brodeur will start in net for Devils Thursday in Ottawa. Mattias Tedenby will make season debut.

I thought Schneider played excellent last game. Then again I also think the Harrold-Volch pairing is awful and Fayne/Larsson should play every night. The veterans will get it done though... eventually (game 82)

Actually don't mind that, assuming Schneider gets the start on Saturday. Would be technically his first start at home, not to mention against the Rangers.

I'm okay with Marty starting in Ottawa, but go to Schneider against the Rangers. Especially if Marty stinks up the joint in Ottawa.

IMO Cory has been better than Marty by quite a bit.

Marty has had a terrible game (Islanders) a meh game (Oilers) and a good game (Flames)

Schneider has had a meh game (Penguins) a good game (Canucks) and an outstanding game (Jets)

He's going to alternate until one of them wins for sure. Be mad all you want but Marty got us 2 pts while Scheider got us 1 so far. Plus I'd rather Cory play against the struggling Rangers anyways since they haven't seen him enough to know his style or tendencies like Marty.

At this point I almost hope Anderson is in net rather than Lehner too. Lehner has been lights out both in his starts and relief of Anderson who's been up and down.
