Just file a grievance that the USHL season should count as a fourth accrued WHL season and he would qualify.
I always thought the problem was that they don’t count his first year in the WHL. He wasn’t granted exceptional status. They did let him play more games than normal…but I thought they didn’t count it

With the log jam we got at forward. It's not ideal, cause I think he's ready. But I do see Savoie in the WHL to start the season

After all, they can let him play some NHL games so as not to burn his ELC?

Looking for some info on players who made their NHL debut last season. Specifically what type of player they are and what their future NHL outlook is. Thanks!

F - Lukas Rousek
G - Devon Levi
Rousek-Potential middle six forward. Highly skilled passer with good wheels and motor. Pesky defensive player but not a shutdown type, yet at least. Ceiling could be like a 50 point, 3rd line player. Floor is probably an AHL tweener but I think it's much more likely he becomes a bottom six forward than an AHL guy.
Levi-Hard to say. From a mental and athletic standpoint he has everything you want in a franchise goalie, but size could be a problem. At this point, I think most Sabres fans are expecting that he's our franchise goalie for the next 10 plus years. I lean that way too, but in the back of my head, I still worry about his size. He's too good not to be an NHL player though, so the only question will be if his elite mental and athletic traits can be effective enough for him to be a #1 goalie, and if he is a #1, he'll be a stud.

Sounds like Mike Weber was hired away from us and given a promotion in the Blues org this week?

Who's going to develop our defensemen now? Isn't he one of the ones who helped Sammy along?

With the Ice not having any picks, it would not be a surprise if Benson or Savoie are dealt to another WHL team. There is no guarantee they will be together there if Wenatchee is trying to recoup some draft picks or prospects of their own.
A smart franchise would mortgage everything to bring in 2/3 of one of the best lines in all of junior hockey. That would be something.

I do not see Savoie in WHL next year. It is a wasted year for him. better he gets the Quinn treatment and is an extra forward here and there while he rotates in...or earns a spot. D+2 for top 10 pick, KA gonna want to see him in NHL.

I'd float that Savoie would be given the "Wright treatment" and miss half the WHL season unless he and Benson are traded to the same team. Gotta keep them together whether in Wenatchee or elsewhere.

Kind of a catch-22. If they're both in juniors, they're probably split up to maximize trade value but Wenatchee won't know until the Sabres decide. Maybe they hold onto them for the inaugural season? Of course if Savoie stays in Buffalo, they're split up anyway. Small chance they get to play together this upcoming season.

I tend to think this way also. Makes you wonder how far away Benson is as well having an equally impressive season.

I would say it is simply a numbers game. Being a new pick, Benson will go right back to the WHL no questions asked. Kulich Rousek and Savoie will be the 3 vying for ice time this year. Benson over complicates things.

It might be interesting to a team to trade for the rights to both of them but some of those deals last year were stunning in the volume of assets sent. To get two players of their quality seems like a really tall order unless some previous trade norms come back into vogue. But I like the idea.

Oh no doubt. I don't actually think Benson will make the team this year. We'll have the same issue next summer wishing he could just go to AHL.

There's going to be a surge of ready young talent at forward next year. Leads me to believe that Benson could get slowed down but we'll see what happens with all of these good problems.

Do we know for sure that he can’t? He played 24 games in the Covid year in the WHL. That was the full WHL season that year. This should be his required 4th WHL season.

Savoie didn’t…he went to the USHL.

He is what, 18? I am sure Sabres will want to send him back to round out his game. If he was this amazing and NHL ready he would have went earlier. The Sabres are PATIENT. Kulich will round out his game in the AHL to start the year. They are now moving from developing to winning. They will want more prospects more polished when they make the jump.

yeah…I’m talking about Benson’s AHL eligibility for after this season since his situation isn’t the same as Savoie’s.

No I'm not sure about his eligibility in 24-25. If he only has one year left in juniors, that's perfect.

October 2024 will be Halloween all month with how many kids there will be banging down the door.
