General COVID-19 talk, NHL remains suspended MOD Warning post #1

I know some are questioning why we have lost some of our liberties, been forced to accept practices we do not agree with , turned our world upset down and went from the best economy in decades if not ever to an unknown reality with business closing and jobs lost some for ever but please consider this , yesterday Columbia University posted a study that said that trump delayed too long and if he had closed the country even 1 week, that's 7 days , earlier he would have saved 30 ,000 lives , so if they had tried to preserve our rights to go to beach and other smartass things I could say and mostly agree with but we would have lost many many more souls , and before you say that's just another shot at the president and even if its partially right and its only 20k or 15k that's a lot of families and with the earlier transmission rate @ 1:1.5 conservatively it would be the pandemic we all feared was coming . IMO these are not infringements on our rights but temporary inconviences that are saving not only lives but medical bills for normally 20-30 day hospital stays , so if your young and get it you go broke and come out with possible lung, kidney or heart problems . I know its hard to see the overall picture especially when you cant prove what might have happened and are unsure if they over reacted to this but the fact that the whole world did that should help, I for one just thought it was another BS stunt by the liberals and their cronies on the news until they closed Milan and Venice those two provide 57% of the revenue for Italy , so hang in there brothers and sisters we can still stand tall and remember that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger

All the talk about the masks infringing on liberty is obnoxious IMO. My personal liberty stops when I start affecting other people. I acknowledge that it’s possible that I will never come into contact with COVID, and that my chances of getting it may be very low. But I also have to acknowledge that I could have COVID right now and be completely asymptomatic and actively spreading it to people who are possibly more vulnerable than me. If I don’t include that second part in my equation, that makes me kind of a selfish asshole, doesn’t it? In my view, the decent thing to do is to take the necessary precautions out of respect for health and continued liberty of my fellow citizens.
When I see someone saying “I woke up in a free country and you can’t make me wear a mask”, I know I’m listening to a truly childish, selfish person who doesn’t understand that freedom and liberty come with shared responsibility as well.

meanwhile cuomo and de blasio are too busy swinging their purses at each other to care. disgusting state, both of them need to go. slow to react, made horrific decisions during, and have 0 interest getting things rolling again, just dick measuring..

also fauci just advocated that stay at home orders need to get going on being lifted

Dr. Anthony Fauci says staying closed for too long could cause 'irreparable damage'

I don't really think many people disagree with that at this point

It's the 'how' that's really worrisome.

At least this guy gets it: GOP governor in North Dakota gives emotional plea against 'mask shaming'

Watching the amount of headlines and videos of people literally picking fights over being asked to wear masks in stores is just absurd.

Also, not great news with respect to Sweden's approach, unfortunately: Sweden isn't anywhere close to reaching herd immunity after anti-lockdown strategy
Unrealistic in the first place.

Herd immunity involves vaccines
That's a long way off. That is 70% of a population.

Diseases usually run their courses back in the day which they estimate was percentages in the 30s and 40. Maybe 50s. No one knew the real numbers tho because people have never lived this close together

I think it's just a little surprising at this point. The feedback is all over the map, you know? Like, this thing is super infectious, and we assume a lot of CA has had it; how has a country with such testing TRYING to get it having such a hard time building that up?

Yeah. It's really odd

I am curious to see how the antibody testing goes when they do the tests here.

Something is very off about the numbers. From the article you can come to a conclusion that the rate of infection is supposedly same for a country not locked down as the one that is locked down.

Either the numbers in Sweden are wrong or the numbers in other countries are wrong. Or it could be that as long as you practice social distancing, good hygene, wear masks, etc, it will have the same effect on the virus spread as being in a lockdown.

It's just so wild to live in a world that survives on data...that is getting bad, dishonest, misreported, and misunderstood data even 6 months later. Humans suck. We should all be fighting this thing together and even with different paths we should at least have SOME consensus on recording and reporting.

Yeah, but I mean they're "mostly" people over 65. They're barely even people at that point so f*** 'em, right?
