Coach O'Connell got booted at BU. I wonder if they would bring Quinn back? OR, if the would try to poach a coach like Leaman, Carvel or Hastings?
I wonder if they go with a guy like Eric Lang at AIC who has done really well at a smaller school?

Granted, he is an AIC alum and may not want to leave.

I heard an interview with Lang and I'd be shocked if he was going to leave.

Edit - this was the interview AIC Head Coach Eric Lang Discusses The Rise Of Yellow Jackets Hockey - FloHockey

I agree that Quinn would be the likely first choice.

I just wonder if Lang is a guy that they try and go after even if he may not want to leave his alma mater.

Another guy that could be an under the radar candidate is RIT grad and UMass Associate Head Coach Jared DeMichiel.

I'm only amused from the standpoint that this is going to be another Boston kid forgoing the hometown team to go to the Rangers.

Sometimes it's hard to pass up these high profile positions. CHN was speculating Pearson wouldn't leave Tech for Michigan job, then, BAM!, he's in Ann Arbor before they could finish typing the article. Lang has been pretty awesome at AIC.

I think college hockey is a better fit for Quinn. Sounds like working with the younger guys on the Rangers was his strong point. If he doesn't take the BU job I'd take him in Madison. The wheels came off the bus there when you guys got the "good" Granato in Buffalo.

I've had a lot of opportunity to look in on Wisconsin over the last bit, just trying to keep tabs on Sabre prospects, and even with Weissbach up there, it was always something going wrong for Wisconsin. No lead felt safe, no game felt like it was theirs for the taking. Has he been sacked yet?

Some teams do it well:

It's like getting free players. If it's a depth guy, it's a depth guy. If it's a mid-line guy, it's a mid-line guy. If it is Torey Krug, it's Torey Krug. This is part of why I'm consistently interested in the UDFA side of collegiate hockey. Talent is talent, depth is depth.

Heard that. Luke Glendenning and Danny Dekeyser were very serviceable FAs in Detroit. The Wings are in on Ben Meyers as well. If they work out it's great. If they don't, only whiners care since it didn't burn a draft pick.

If anything I think you might be underselling the appeal of NCAA free agents. It's not just that you're adding depth to your system, taking more chances at little to no risk, it's that you're adding players who are NHL ready, or close to NHL ready. There isn't necessarily the same upside as there are with prospects in the draft, but they're more likely to translate to the NHL (if there's an exception, it seems to be players who are very productive scorers in college. UDFAs rarely have the pure skill necessary to become a top line point producer in the NHL).

Alas, Granato and Osiecki (equally part of the problem) are still in place. I'm not sure how with a .467 winning percentage after 6 seasons. The expectations should be much higher in Madtown.

It's not just the record; you hit the nail on the head noting the lack of compete, not playing complete games and generally looking rudderless. That's all on the coaches. I'd be concerned if I had a defense prospect at UW. Osiecki's groups give up a lot of room. Even that world class group he had in 2010. No way should he have been asked back after the way BC slaughtered them in the finals.

*sigh*

Quinn seems like he'd be the best fit if he wants to step back to the NCAA life.

Getting caught up here, the general consensus among the fanbase seems to be Quinn and current assistant coach Jay Pandolfo are the likely favorites at this point. There was definitely a sense that Pandolfo was poached from the Bruins in last year as a possible successor for Albie if needed.

Given BU's penchant for wanting guys connected to the program, another name that will likely get some traction could be Shawn McEachern. He's been an assistant before at UML and Northeastern, and is currently coaching at a prep school.

Given the half-season in 2013, Covid seasons, etc:, that’s 2.5 full roster players per season. Insane.
