Previous anime disliker, current anime enjoyer here.

I started getting more into anime through some movies during the pandemic and now I have expanded to series as well.
Previously I had seen things like Dragonball and Ghibili movies, but now I gave this style a proper chance.

I was just thinking the other day, how many movies and shows I have seen recently and which did I enjoy the most so I decided to create some lists.

Favourite movies:
Masterpiece: Your Name (definitely in my top 3 movies of all-time if not no 1)
Excellent: A Silent Voice, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Weathering With You
Great: 5 Centimeters per second, Garden of Words
Good: The Girl who Leapt Through Time, Bubble...I'm sure there are others.

So yeah, big fan of Makoto Shinkai and can't wait for his new movie.

Didn't include Ghibili movies since it's been a while I've seen them, but I think my top 5 would be something like this:
1. Howl's Moving Castle
2. Porco Rosso
3.-4. Kiki's Delivery Service/My Neighbour Totoro
5. Spirited Away (Maybe I need to re-watch Spirited Away since I don't remember being that impressed)

I started watching shows little later (like 6 months ago) and now I have watched the following:
AoT tier: Attack on Titan (likely the best tv show I've ever watched)
Amazing rom-com tier: Komi Can't Communicate, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Spy x Family
Dramas I enjoyed: Your Lie in April, Violet Evergarden
Good tier: My Dress-Up Darling, Toradora!

Next up on my list is retry of FMAB and I'm thinking maybe Classroom of the Elite. I tried FMAB previously like two years ago, but couldn't get into it.
Or do you guys have any other suggestions I might like? I'm not interested in Death Note, One Punch Man, One Piece, Naruto etc demon slaying things...

I would recommend for movies to check out Satoshi Kon’s works, Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo God Fathers, and Paprika. For shows I would recommend My Love Story, Mob Psycho, Hinamatsuri, Ranking of Kings, and Vinland Saga. Some of the ones I think of off the top of my head, all are pretty different from one another.

Thanks, will give those a try. Perfect Blue, Paprika and Vinland Saga were on my list already, but I'll check those others out too.

I'm actually right now just enjoying these slice of life shows now. Just finished Horimiya, which I absolutely l loved and currently I'm watching Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, which I also really like so far.

Hello all, I don’t know a thing about anime. my daughter has recently got into it and I’m fine with that. Starz recently added the third “My Hero Academia” movie. The only audio option is English, yet it’s the original audio. Anybody ever have this type of issue on Starz? The 2nd movie works fine. My guess is that since they just released it on Starz maybe they screwed something up with the audio?

Also, I put Crunchyroll on the firetv for her. Is there anything i should be worried about in regards to the selection there? She’s 11 and I’m cool with her watching marvel movies and such as long as it’s not over PG13. But I’ve seen all those movies. This is all unfamiliar territory so I just want to make sure there’s nothing crazy in there…

Not sure about Starz but it’s a common issue with Anime. I went and saw the new Dragonball movie and they played the sub version even though the ticket said dubbed. Also had issues with Ghost in a Shell Stand Alone Complex switching back and forth on blu ray.

I’m sure crunchyroll has parental locks. The UI for it is awful so it might be hard to find, not sure. Also not sure what content they will limit. You have to remember that in a lot of anime they put adult jokes in shows aimed at children. Dragonball consistently had Rushi acting like a pervert even though it was aimed at children.

I don't know what the general anime-fan opinion is and I haven't really watched anything since before crunchyroll but they aren't going to have any of the really crazy 18+ stuff on that platform. I will add though that for an 11 year old daughter while in North America the prime animation age target is children with anime my impressions is that while there's designation for all ages the prime target is high school aged. Somewhere above PG-13 but below R. But it shouldn't be hard to figure out what's appropriate or not.

I started One Piece in April for the first time. It took a bit to get into it mainly due to the fact that I would have to commit to 1000+ episodes. However, 5 months later I'm 240 or so episodes in now. At this rate I should be caught up in 15 more months. I am just nearing the end of the Water 7 arc for those who watched OP.

It's funny you say that because I'm kind of in the early stage. After not wanting to get involved in something with so many episodes I started watching One Piece this weekend. It has an original Dragonball feel to it and I'm enjoying it.

I also didn't want to start Bleach or reading Berserk for the same reasons. I burned through the Berserk manga and now I've started both Bleach and One Piece. I'm trying to enjoy the journey instead of focusing on getting caught up.

Recently finished a couple shows/seasons:

86 - 10/10
Simply amazing! This is the closest I've felt to Attack on Titan in terms of epicness and pain. Also the music was great and of course Hiroyuki Sawano had his hands on this show as well.

Vinland Saga - 7/10
The first half was really boring to me. Second half picked up a lot, but it still fell really short for me. I'll probably watch the upcoming season as well, but my expectations are low.

I'm also very happy that Spy x Family is back. The first episode was great and I'm sure it's gonna keep getting even better. I don't think there's ever been a show that would make me smile throughout every second, no matter what mood I'm in.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 9/10
I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Great character design and animation style felt unique. I played the game on release and was disappointed like most of us but after this show I really want to go back and give it another go.

Also I Really Want to Stay at Your House has been on repeat ever since I finished the show.

Yay, someone else that watched 86! I loved that show.

There's an argument to be made that Kaguya is one of the best directed pieces of media going right now tbh. Curious to see how wild they get with the movie.

But yea this is one of the better seasons in recent memory. Beyond the obvious ones (Chainsaw Man, Bleach, Mob, MHA, Spy x Family) there's some real polished slice of life stuff (Bocchi the Rock, Yama no Susume 4, Do it Yourself). Witch from Mercury also seems like it'll be a good Gundam if you want an entry point into that series.

I don’t want to overhype a show after 1 episode, but holy crap Akiba Maid Wars surprised me with its first episode. Definitely an odd one but that’s what makes it so interesting, I definitely recommend checking it out. Also, really like the OP

Finally caught up on/finished Cyberpunk. Loved the visuals and general setting. Music helped with that. Story wasn't so bad. Action made up for it.

9/10

Will listen to the OST tomorrow on my day off.

Just finished few more seasons:

Demon Slayer, season 1: 9/10
Well I said previously that I'm not interested in any demon slaying anime, but decided to give this a go once I realized that this wasn't one of those shows that had hundreds of episodes. And I'm glad I did! This show has one of the better battle animation I've seen and Tanjiro might be my new favourite MC. There are few characters that I did not enjoy or that are straight up annoying (Zenitsu, some of the Hashiras), but I was able to overlook those. I think I'm gonna skip the Mugen Train movie and go for the episodes instead as I understood that the movie is just a shorter version of the Arc. Maybe I'll check out the movie version later.

Lycoris Recoil, season 1: 8,5/10
Didn't really have any expectations going into this one, since I didn't know anything about this. But I found LycoReco very enjoyable with some great characters. It's only 12 episodes for now and I think season 2 is set to come out 2024. Definitely worth the watch!

I watched Ergo Proxy for the first time. I get it’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea but it was great. Had to google all the stuff I didn’t understand but is really a piece of art.

I wonder why it never got a cult following.
