Man, that was a hell of an embarassment for the US. Even worse, I though the refs were biased in their favor pretty much all game.

Not being able to beat Belarus is one thing. Not being able to beat them when the refs are with you is another thing.

Fritsche was really, really good playing on such a flat team. He was like a lion surrounded by a bunch of pansies. The Kessel kid is really getting my attention this tournament. Cory Schneider was his usual self. I don't like him. But he will fit like a glove with the Canucks. They sure love their crappy goaltenders. Montoya was horrible at first and then looked better in the end but that's not going to cut it. He will be haunted by this if he doesn't have stellar games very soon.

Stafford was ok but I thought it was weird how he celebrated a totally meaningless goal while his team was getting a *****slap. Quite frankly, that kind of behavior irritates me much more than fist-pumping by Kovalchuk when the goal actually MEANS something. Stafford is a warrior, he should know better. That was just embarassing.

Suter continues to show me he is overrated on these boards. Best defenseman prospect? Yeah, right.

I also though USA reacted poorly. They basically didn't show up for most of this game but once the game is over, get in a big shuffle and act tough. I don't mind showing frustration at the end of the game if the opposition was playing you dirty, if you were victim of bad bounces, bad refereeing etc. But Belarus played by the book, had the refs on their back all game, had players rammed from behind without the appropriate calls. USA has only themselves to blame for this horrible loss.

It's just not USA's year to win this tournament.

Canada is just too good too experienced.

USA's defense is a joke compared to Canada's and the goaltending that was supposed to be USA's strength has been terrible.

Looking for a Canada-Russia game in the finals. Ovechkin and Malkin will at least give Canada a good matchup.

Then again ESPN probably won't show the finals if USA isn't playing. :shakehead
It must suck to be a hockey fan in the U.S.

my god the cameras on ESPN2 waited about 3-5 seconds after the final horn ended to pan over to the fight that was about to happen...they s*ck!

That's what I was talking about (above), by the way. Wasn't trying to piss you off, I just thought it was lame.

The 3rd period of this tournament was the first time I actually caught myself rooting for the US all tournament.

Belarus played the way the game was meant to be played and I'm glad they got rewarded for it.

he will fit like a glove with the Canucks. They sure love their crappy goaltenders.
His performance today was definitely Cloutier-esque.

I don't know what to say. This is without a doubt the most dissapointing feeling I've had in my time following US hockey. I had to walk away from the game part way through the second because it was just awful to watch.

Congratulations to Belarus. They outplayed the US from what I saw and deserved the win. I was never a believer in the Kastitsyn hype but I'll surely never forget him after this, regardless of if he becomes an NHL'er or not.

Hopefully the US can rebound tomorrow against the Czechs and finish the tournament strong.

2. I did not like the goalie change in the middle of the game. Schneider was not at fault on ANY of the 3 goals he gave up...they were all great shots down low...and the U.S. dmen left guys WIDE OPEN on all 3 goals. Making that goalie switch is like telling your dmen that its the goalie's fault...not theirs. It sends the wrong message! finally, Montoya struggled the last 2 games and was bad in this one too so why make the change?

I'm gonna predicate this by stating that I'm a Ranger fan, so my opinion on Montoya might be alittle biased.

The US defense sucked and both goalies suffered from it.

Whether or not the first two goals where Schneider's fault is debateable, but you can't excuse the third goal, it was a throwaway bad angle shot which he should have had.

Montoya's first goal was, likewise, inexcuseable. Warmed up or not you've got to make that save. But if your going to blame Schneider's first two goals on the US defense then you have to do the same for Montoya's second allowed goal. That was a horrible outlet pass (I think from suter) and it would have been an extreemly tough save.

And Al did have a very good third period and kept the US in the game.

This game may be the best thing that happened to the US. It could wake them up. Look at Canada at the last two world juniors - undefeated till the last game. If the US beats the Czech republic tomorrow, I still think the US is a gold medal contender.

I have a feeling they will. Tonight's wake-up call came at just the right moment.

They won last year. :teach:

All I'm saying is that this isn't their year.

Next year with all of team Canada graduating to the NHL including Crosby it won't be Canada's year to win. Canada is desperate to win the tournament this year and I'm pretty sure they are going to win.

I meant because hockey doesn't get the respect it deserves. Not because team U.S.A. is bad or anything. :)

Your kidding right? USA's defense has been horrible but that is no excuse for the three softies Schneider let in...those were not "great shots".

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. The refs gave Belarus a questionable 5 on 3 among other Belarus powerplays in the first two periods. Now in the third USA was getting powerplays because they were the team attacking.

Please explain where the refs were on USA's side. :teach:

Holy ***** the U.S team sucks. Probably the only chance I get to see em play, and what a disapointment. Defensive coverage just horrible, horrible goaltending, the offence was pretty good, other then that, a disapointment.

I knew the Belarus was gonna win this game. (points and laughs at Chaos) Hey man, you set this up on yourself. Go back to page 3. Hes not playing Salo, but hes playing Schnieder.

I hear all these good things about these Players, how Phil Kessel was "awesome" how American fans, are raving about their own players, like their god. How their hockey program is looking very good, blah blah blah, and they suffer one of the most humuliating defeat in World Junior History. All of a sudden they are back at square 1.

Phil Kessel was not as good as some people here say he is. Dont overate your own players. He was good. Maybe watching theCanadian team for 3 games, seeing how good those Canadian players, effected the way I see other players, because Canadian players are so good, its making every other player that is pretty good, look very bad.

but then again, glad the U.S team lost.

Thats why most of us have Center Ice. Doesnt help in this tourney or this year with the lockout. If the US isnt in the finals then it probably wont be shown. Same goes for all sports, if our country isnt playing average Joe doesnt really care.

USA's defense(besides Suter) and goaltending is horrible I've never raved about any of them.

Kessel is the real deal though. He is their most naturally talented player easily.

Everytime he got the puck with speed he was making things happen. I don't think its about overating him, simply watch team USA play and he stands out he is the one making things happen.

Yes, my impression is that Kessel is overated. He is nowhere near Crosby's greatness.

The U.S. has some dynamic forwards, but their Defence is too weak.

The goaltending was hilarious, however that can happen to the best of us.
Cough Cough.... Fleury....Cought cough.

Did Adam Pineault play at all? and how did he do?

I can't understand why he hasn't gotten much ice time so far in the tourney.

No point in comparing Crosby and Kessel. Kessel has come out of no where to make a name for himself this past week where as Crosby has been hyped for years.

Yeah they were saying he took Bourque's spot when Bourque got injured...but I can't recall Pineault doing anything too noticeable.

I'm probably the most dissapointed US fan around here but I just don't agree with you here. As bad as this loss was, it won't ruin the whole US program.

I'd say what I really feel about these kinds of sentiments but I'd probably get banned so I'll just say I'm not a fan of anyone kicking when someone's down.
