horrible call by linesman pretty much cost the us any chance to tie it in the last minute. good game. dissapointing result.

A point would have been nice.

So Russia and Sweden left to go. Need to get at least 1 point out of those two to advance IMO.

Exactly !!!!

but a good game by Team USA .. remember game 1!!! this was a good effort .. but somebody has to start to score ...

There are times to whine about officiating, but this is not one. JD was wrong, the linesman was right.

Even if he wasn't, it was just a hold in, not a goal.

No, the linesman WAS wrong. Schneider knocked it down with the glove, two US forwards were standing there, visibly not playing the puck just so there wouldn't be a whistle, Schneider comes back into the play, touches the puck(LEGAL) and the linesman blows the whistle. The fact two US forwards were there trying to clear the way shows that it was a terrible call and should not have been just an honest mistake.

I didn't think Budaj played all that well, actually. USA didn't get a whole lot of clear scoring chances, and the few they had either hit the post or the bar. He also gave up a fair share of unneccesary rebounds. That said, he got the job done.. still a very decent game by him.

Schneider held the puck in by knocking it down with his hand, then HE went and got it, none of the other US players touched it before he did. Linesman called it a hand pass, so the faceoff went outside the zone. US had to put DiPietro back in, then they were never really able to get the puck back in. Before that, the US had the puck in the zone, had possession of it, and were getting good chances to tie it up.

Of course we can't know if they would have tied it up, but it was still a terrible call.

is our best oppurtunity to get a point the Russians....they dont seem to have the Defensive presence that the Slovaks do

unfortunately with Forsberg coming back i think its going to be tough to get a point from the Swedes...

There's no way we don't advance to the tournament. We'll get at least a point against one of the next two(probably Russia, they don't look solid)

I didn't see Schneider come back and touch it on the video...

It doesn't matter. It shouldn't come down to the last 50 seconds.

Bad call. Bad call. Not the only one either.

Man, that game wore me out, I need a nap lol.

Too much Gomez and Gionta IMO for the US. Modano was flying today and should have gotten more shifts. (From what I saw)

Modano was flying but his puck control was way off. He also caused some unneccary turnovers. He was great defensively I thought..

Rolston was probably US' best player.. or at least the most dangerous one. I liked Blake as well for the few minutes he saw.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

No need to bug about missed or bad calls. USA had no busy struggling against Slovakia. Everything evens out in the end. In the end, the Slovaks won. No American needs to shed a tear.

If you need more evidence that Erik Cole is a product of Eric Staal, I think you just need to look at these Olympics.

What about Cole?

The US is not going to win many games if they are relying on Gomez and Gionta double shifting, they are good players, but they cannot carry a team in this type of tournament.

That was a great game to watch, the end result was disappointing but it was by far the best game the US has played. The Gionta-Gomez-Tkachuk and Rolston-Modano-Cole lines looked great. DiPietro looked really good, Grahame should probably get the start tomorrow but I'd feel comfortable going with DiPietro the rest of the way.

I didn't think Budaj played particularly well, but the defense did a good job of clearing his rebounds and the US just didn't get the bounces.

Also, AMAZING play by Schneider to save that goal. Wow :amazed:

Cole is an above average true power forward, and there are not that many of those around these days. He looked fine for Carolina in their playoff run before Staal got there.

Good effort by USA with a bad result. I thought they were the better team, while Slovaka sat back. However, they did an excellent job covering up the slot area and not allowing USA many good scoring chances. Big, big game tomorrow!
