All I can say is it is a long season and the Kings are in a funk. All these things people here are posting is the same s*** that was posted the year we won the cup or as a matter of fact pretty much every year when the Kings slump. Trading this, Brown sucks, Stoll sucks, etc.... Kings have the players they just need to get in sync. They are terrible to watch right now but they have 2 big games vs the Ducks and they should be great ones. I just hope the guys play great so I only have to read 3 pages of threads.

That's what a lot of people forget - sure Kopitar and Doughty are still young, but most of these players are in their primes right now.

I see a three years window with the Richards, Carter, Quick, and Brown core, and another three after that with Kopitar and Doughty, but only if we supplement those two.

We are in our window right now. You do what it takes.

You may not get that long with Kopitar- he becomes a UFA in 2016; Williams and Stoll in 2015. The real long term contracts are with Richards, Carter, Brown, Doughty, Voynov and Quick. Of these nine players, unless there's another Stanley Cup or two before the 2016-17 season (3 seasons, including this one), my sense is that Richards, Brown, Williams and Stoll may be gone. Of course, a guy like Richards, if he plays down to become a competent 3rd line centre, may be pretty cheap depending on what the going rate is for a 2/3C in a few years. Still, a total cap hit of $11.7 million for a 3rd line center and winger (Richards and Brown) seems a little steep, even in a few years.

that's two straight crap defensive efforts and I really do not think a healthy Greene is the answer.
I am more concerned about the defensive efforts that I am about our constant LW hole

This just further makes the Bernier draft look silly. 6 wasted years on a #11.

 for DL

I don't mock that pick at all. We needed a goalie and he was/is an elite level prospect. If it wasn't for Quick coming out of no where Bernier would be our #1 and would be a good #1

To be fair, he did play a role on this team for a long time. If you want to give Deano the palm, it starts and stops with Hickey although you could bring up the Lewis pick as well but he played every game during the Cup run so I don't give that one too much thought.

Thinking about it more last night, the main problem is the best players on this team are being outplayed by Dwight King. That's not a slight against King, it's just that they finally have a secondary scorer who could pot something like 16 goals but that's going to be the same amount as numbers 10 and 23. I know this is pretty much the team they are going to go to the prom with but, if they don't come out playing with fire and purpose after the Olympic Break, then they can leave the condoms at home because they won't be needing them.

My main issue with coaching/management is the young guys. Pearson should be in the AHL no doubt; however, Vey and Toffoli should be up here getting ten minutes a night. These two playing over a couple of our bottom line stiffs is not going to hurt the Kings on the ice at present and it will only help this team in the future. I'd gladly take ten minutes at the NHL level for these two over 18 minutes in the AHL where they have already proven to be point a game guys.

This isn't a Moller or Clifford situation. They both played their way through Juniors and have played a full season in the AHL; more in Vey's case. I don't care if Toffoli loses a puck battle every once in awhile: lots of guys on this team do. I hate hearing how "they aren't ready to play Kings hockey" because, you know what, that sounds like a ringing endorsement of their games at the moment!

I have been happy with the way Richards has been playing lately. Brown needs to pick it up.
I still think the only reason why Toffoli is in the AHL is so he can play through the Olympic break. Something about how if he plays too many games here is ineligible or some crap. Once the break is over he should be back. Till then I would rather have him play during that break in the AHL than not be able to play at all.
I agree that Pearson is not ready.

Disagree, Hickey got passed by Voynov, Muzzin, Martinez, but look at what he is doing in NYI, he is playing solid minutes, and playing well, is he better than Voynov, Muzzin or Martinez, no, but Hickey is turning into a solid NHL player.

Yeah, if DL was perfect, ...

Come on, why cherry-pick what the guy does right and wrong? All I know is he built this team up from pure, unadulterated, petrified crap and turned into a Stanley Cup champion in 6 years. The next year, we went deep into the playoffs with an injured roster and hobbling team on the ice.

I really don't understand some of you guys/gals.

I know DL has done way more good than bad, but I was so pissed the day he selected Hickey over Alzner. I thought Alzner was a slam dunk and then was blindsided by Hickey.

Isn't there cameras backstage right now as the kings prepare for the out door game. every team says it is not a distraction but it sure seems like every year the teams that are being filmed sure suck while the film crews are there.

The Kings have signed everyone else that they have wanted to. Unless Kopitar wants to go somewhere else specifically, I don't see the Kings having a problem getting him under contract.

If Kopitar actually hits unrestricted free agency, the Kings might as well fold the franchise.

Yeah, like Zdeno Chara, Marian Hossa, Brad Richards, Ilya Kovalchuk, to name a few...Nobody outbids Dean Lombardi!!! Oh wait. :amazed:

Those were players from other teams who already got to UFA status.
He means, Quick, Brown, Doughty (hold out but was RFA), Voynov.
I doubt that DL will have issues locking up Kopi but he needs to start the process as soon as he is allowed.

I meant of their own players. Quick, Doughty, Brown, Voynov. Williams re-signed. Mitchell re-signed. Scuderi was the one guy who wanted to go back east for family reasons.

With the way the rules are, Kopitar can make more with the Kings than he can somewhere else. Unless he has another specific city he wants to play in, there's little reason he won't take max money from the Kings. If he does want to play somewhere else more than in LA, well that's a bridge to cross at a later time.

Kopitar won't sign new contract with Kings only in case that Kings will not want to have him anymore. I'm sure about this.

He already said in many interviews for SLO medias that he can't imagine himself on anyother NHL team and he want to play for Kings till end, but that is not entirely up to him...

With the cap going up I wonder what king of $$ he would be after. Culd see it easily being in the 8-9mil/yr range.

Offense wins fans. Goalies and defense win championships.

The issue with this team right now is not offense. It is the loss of very experienced shut down D. Scuderi is gone. Mitchell is about 70% of where he was in 2012. Greene is about 70%, as well. We don't have enough, or strong enough shut down defensemen.

The Kings just got stuck in the transition to new D players. And Scuderi leaving at the same time as Mitchell disintegrating has finally caught up to the team. What happens when you don't have these kind of D on the ice? Teams score right after you. Teams gain momentum and keep it. And as a result the offense can't get going.

Worse, the offense gets screwed up because there are no D capable of shutting down an opponents rush and making the right quick pass to start a counter. How many times have you seen the Kings forwards spread out across the blue line too far from each other and the D - waiting for that top D pass to break them up the ice. The pass that either doesn't come or it comes too late. Or it's not on the stick or in the exact place needed to beat an opponent out of the play.

Watch the Chicago game again. It's that great first pass from the that gets their plays going and beat the Kings.

We need an excellent stay at home shut down D. Maybe two. One really good one and one tough punisher - like Greene. Then all of a sudden we'll have an offense again. I'd bet that even Frattin would score.

I like Mitchell @ 70% of 2012, however I think greene is > 50% of what he was that year. When he is healthy he is often a liability.

As a Blue Jackets fan I want to say you guys played a hard fought game against a team that is really up and coming.
Even with many of issues that has been described in this thread I certainly feel that the Kings can still go far this year.

I urge you all to look through the threads of the last 4 season and tell me how much different they look than todays.

One thing I've always heard from people close to the game is that things are never as bad as they seem when you are slumping and never as great as they seem when you are streaking.

I know it's frustrating but I think we still have every reason to believe that the team will get it done when it matters most.

Thanks--and you certainly earned the victory!

Very true and I'd also say it's pretty telling that our last couple of opponents have talked about how good we played even though we're hanging our heads in shame and trying to decide which player is next to be traded. Bruins fans said they were white-knuckling to the end of the game when many of us shut off our tvs or put our remotes through it after the third goal.

I just have to believe this is the bottom of the barrel. Two games vs. the Ducks should be fun!
