ideally a retool would help

realistically they might need that rebuild sooner or later

It’s only been a year and a half since back to back ECFs. Brand new state of the art arena, organization back to respectability, best practice facility in the NHL as well.

They have done everything they said they would and everything we wanted for decades. Lou’s tenure maybe running its course but Ledecky and Malkin certainly aren’t the problem. Also, Cohen hasn’t done really anything with the Mets or won anything. You can’t just throw money around in Hockey because of the salary cap.

A rebuild won’t be like the last one because the cupboard isn’t bare. Last time we had no good young pieces and not good vets to trade for assets. We at least have important young players to keep and build with like Sorokin Barzal and Dobson.

Even if we just get mid picks for guys like Palmieri or Pageau we can still parlay those picks into assets.
 
It was ugly. But feels better than losing at least!

Palmieri was good and Pelech seems to be finding touch again.

He is now in 4th place all time and 2 away for Rick D

Given the current roster, their collective age, the cap situation, untradable contracts, and the (lack of) assets to trade, I seriously don't know how any GM could flip this team into a legit Cup contender in 1-2 years.

Agreed. Then again, this team has its work cut out.

Pittsburgh is one team we actually match up decently with. Taking the head to head games might keep it interesting. Pitt can be slump prone. Palmieri gives the O a boost. Not saying it's gonna happen but I'm still gripping the ledge
