Why? Get ready to fork over 15 million for mcdavid when the time comes.

Smiling now?

McDavid is a reasonable kid.
If he likes the team he won't ask to blow it up for that contract.
If he doesn't he'll walk when he's an UFA

What are the chances the flames let him walk at that price? He's the best player they've had probably ever.

You do realize Iginla scored 1000+ points on Calgary AND won a scoring title when he was only a year older than Gaudreau is now right?

If it is Gaudreau by a mile, than the Flames will still win, Gaudreau is a number 1 winger, the Flames have some very good pieces, they just need to fill them out. Patrick Kane(very similar to Gaudreau) is Chicago's best player and he is a winger and with Patrick Kane as their best player, Chicago has, done ok:sarcasm: for themselves over the last 7-8 years.

Kane was Chicago's best player last year and they had their worst finish in years.

Looking back at their cup runs I would have Kane behind Toews and Keith.

I never said he would, I said he has more leverage to get what he wants out of the Lightning because the KHL is a viable option for him. He could get paid what he wants and play at home.

Johnny doesn't have a KHL to threaten the Flames with so it will be harder for him to get them to give in to his demands.

Kucherov could use the KHL flight risk as leverage but he would also have to force Yzerman into trading a player(Bishop) if he wants Gaudreau's money(rumoured 8 x 8).

I'd assume the PA wouldn't like him taking a dime under 10 million.

8 right now is a slight overpayment, but if it buys up a few UFA years, it will be 100% worth the money down the line.

As has been said in this thread. ~7.4 x 8 seems like a fair deal.

Well the top tier guys are at 10.5. Let's say McDavid blows them all away and is worth $12M in comparison.

His RFA years are only going to be worth $8-$8.5M.

$10.25M average. I could see that.

Peak Iginla was certainly better than Guadreau so far. Not debatable.

PS:
I think Gaudreau is fantastic. I'd pay him 8x8 but hope for 8x7

To be fair, you guys are likely going to have fun with McDavid's next deal.

McDavid can have whatever he wants, but I really doubt he gets some of these 12-14M contracts that people keep throwing around. If he does it means he probably won 2 art ross and heart trophies and outscored the next closest player by 20-30 points. If he does that then by all means give that man the highest contract in hockey.

As for Gaudreau I'd say yeah he's worth in the 7-8M range. I'd be a little disappointed as an Oiler fan if he signed for less than that (I doubt he will unless its a 2 year bridge deal) as it would give them a great value contract going forward and I'd rather them pay fair value on the player like they did with Monahan.

Everyone always mentions the PA, yet time and time again we see players sign for less than HF expects. Seems like most players don't give a **** about these imaginary things that HF thinks the PA is pressuring players into doing.

Brad Treliving is about team first guys. Look at his contracts for Gio, Monahan, Brodie, Backlund. I would not be at all surprised to see Johnny moved for a names like Hall, Evander Kane, or Saad.

The difference between Gaudreau and McDavid is one is heavily endorsed. McDavid was already making millions in junior while Gaudreau made lunch money in college. I see McDavid taking a discount before Gaudreau does

Evander Kane and Hall? That's who you bring up when you are thinking of team first guys?

Disappointing if they are still that far apart, but at the same time if they find a middle ground at 7.3 or less x 7-8 I'd be very happy with the price for the team.
