I don't know how Calgary is going to be able to fit in everyone in a few years.

No idea how they figure they could add Russell as well.

We have:
Wideman
Stajan
Engelland
Bollig
Smid

All coming off the books over the next 2 years. Thats more than 13M+ in capspace. This year is the year we will get pinched, and then should be okay after that for awhile, provided we don't do anything dumb.

To be fair, you guys are likely going to have fun with McDavid's next deal.

He'll get a blank cheque, write in what you want treatment.

I don't think $8 M is unreasonable for Johnny. He's a franchise player and rare talent, he should be making Tarasenko type money (7.5). $7.5-8.0 M seems fair for what he brings.

If he's only asking for 8M I'm happy. I figured their asking price would be over that.

That's how I would structure it. Stay's below Gio and ends up at $7.125.

These kids are so young and get to make so much money, it should be just take what the team gives you, when I was their age, I thought $1000 was a lot of money and you could give on it for 2-3 months:laugh::laugh::laugh:

This would pretty much be in the ballpark of what i'm thinking as well. This would be a fair deal for Gaudreau slightly more then $7 million in which i'm anticipating he will sign for.

Why the hell would they do that?

So the Flames are offering about 6.5 and Gaudreau wants 8. My guess is they each fold at 7.25ish which would be an absolute steal on an 8 year deal. If the Flames suck in 8 years and Johnny leaves, I won't even be mad.

I stand with labour over management. These kids (their agents) should negotiate for the best deal they can get.

I could see Johnny signing from anywhere between $7.0-8.0M AAV. He definitely should be making Tarasenko money, he's in that tier.

They would not, of course but it is just insane, how young they are and how much they are making but they deserve it because they spend their whole lives training for one thing, kind of wish I had done the same.

Flames will budge up to 7.5. A million or so isn't worth souring the relationship with your star player.

Gaudreau will be worth every penny.

Except McDavid will be the face of hockey. He will make his money through endorsements. 8M/yr on a second contract is a lot for Gaudreau

He'll also make more per season than anyone else in hockey. The Players Association wouldn't allow him to take a deal less than most per season at the time of signing.

He'll also be worth it.

This is what I also think, they both will agree, at something between 7-7.3 million range.

These kids will be lucky to have a 10 year professional hockey career. Most don't. So they should absolutely be cashing in when they earn their paydays. Just because they are 20ish years old doesn't mean they don't deserve to be paid fairly.

They probably end up setting at somewhere between $7M and $7.5M I'd imagine.
