Flames likely looking for 7/8 years at 6.5, Gaudreau and his camp are looking at 8 million. He will likely sign at around 7.25-7.5.

Not worried as a Flames fan.

Just pay the guy IMO. Not worth dragging this out into the mud like this.

You can just give every player what they want. You would lose respect from agents and they would all want their clients getting paid more.

Have to be consistent. Especially with key players.

I'd hope that in negotiating out of self interest they'd keep in mind the angle about how the less they pay one guy, the more they have to keep or sign other quality players and keep the team competitive through his (probably) long tenure.

Have to hand it to Gaudreau, tells his agent to lose his number until the WCH is over and then goes out and shows he's one of the best players in the world. :yo:

He is one driven kid.

Bingo!

That's why the Jet fans are so happy with the Scheifele deal.Calgary doesn't want to end up like Chicago. The Stanley Cups aside of course.:)

Gaudreaus hand eye coordination is amazing, of course he wants to keep Flames competitive, but he needs a fair deal too, taking everything into perspective.

Hes going to make a good case this tournament you can tell, to showcase that he can perform among the best and that hes worth a good long contract, wouldnt surprise me one bit if he becomes topgoalscorer. Also, its so nice to see the North American team coming to play, I really hope they progress

What is a young forward who will score 85 points this year worth? That's what Gaudreau is going to do and he hasn't even peaked yet.

Well it seems there is either dispute that Gaudreau will become that player, or about how much that kind of player is worth.

23 year old winger Gaudreau has one secondary assist in 2 games. Meanwhile, 6million/yr and 23 year old centre RNH has a goal and two assists.

I really didn't like Gudreau's attitude last night. Runs out like his parents just grounded him. Not a great trait for being a potential highest paid player and "leader"..

Not sure where you're trying to go with this but. Did you leave out his goal on purpose? not sure how you could have missed it considering it was the winning goal against Finland.

Are you here just to point out how much do you dislike Gaudreau? Seriously, I've only looked at a few pages but I've probably seen 3-4 posts from you trolling on about how much you dislike him. He stormed off the ice because he was disgusted with himself for missing the net to tie the game.

Anyone who has ever played the game competitively would understand how he felt missing on that opportunity. He didn't do it out of disrespect. He did it because he's ultra competitive and wants to help his team win which is why he has won Championships wherever he has played. Maybe in a few years you'll understand.

The kids a rare talent. 8 million a year literally just covers his skill. If he were a great leader he'd be asking for 9+.. Kessel got 8 when the cap was lower and honestly kind of comparable players to a certain degree.

Gaudreau also has a point in every game of this tournament so far (5). No other player on his team can say that. His PP quarterback skills also directly resulted in the goal that RNH scored on. He didn't even get an assist on the play but probably deserved one for the amount of work he put into the sequence.

He also was the one who passed it to a streaking RNH who got his shot blocked, which was then picked up by Rielly who scored. I like how he emphasizes secondary assist like Gaudreau hardly contributed on the play, that and he forgot about Johnny's goal against Finland. On top of that Johnny was the one who drew the penalty which RNH scored on.

Kessel was a UFA, though. The only players to get 8+ million on their 2nd contracts so far were Crosby, Ovechkin, and Malkin. Two of them are centres (one of whom is the best player of the past decade) and the other an all-time top 5 goal scoring talent.

I can see 7+ for Gaudreau, for sure, but 8+ would be completely new territory for a guy in his shoes.

What are the contract values for RFAs with top 10 scoring finishes relative to the cap at the time? To me, Gaudreau's situation isn't that far from Doughty when he got his second contract. He's already shown he has the goods, so pay the man.

Doughty not really a great comparable. D are almost universally considered to be more valuable than wings, let alone obvious 1D
