2022 Cup to Calgary
Hope he signs already with the Flames, one of the skilled players that brings fun to the game.

Probably Tarasenko money is fair?

The problem with Tarasenko money is:

1) Tarasenko in his contract year was a better point producer in "regulation time". As fun and exciting as 3-on-3 is, it is not hockey so much as a glorified skills competition like the shootout, and I don't know how much teams value it or points scored during it. The best 3-on-3 teams don't have any advantage during the postseason.
2) Tarasenko had 4 RFA / 4 UFA years whereas Gaudreau on an 8Y deal has 5 RFA / 3 UFA years and no arbitration/offer sheet rights
3) Tarasenko scored more goals per game despite similar PPG

Based on these three things, a Tarasenko deal is an ~5% overpayment. Maybe even more. IMO.

But doesn't there whole body of work apply as well? Johnny was more productive at every age in the NHL, by a fairly significant margin. Good 3v3 players help teams make the playoffs, which is incredibly valuable.

Relative to the rest of the league, Johnny was a better scorer in his contract year (6th) than Tarasenko was in his (10th). Johnny had no more of an advantage than anyone else this last year, the rules were the same for everyone.

Given the fact that Gaudreau has been more productive over his career and during his contract year, I think that more than offsets the difference in RFA years. Add in the fact that the Tarasenko deal is year old, and I think he might deserve even more.

Im thinking a deal will be announced on Monday or Tuesday should be a 7.2-7.8 mil/ 8 years deal I think.

If there still is a significant gap, I imagine he sits a few weeks and hopes the team struggles, to put pressure on ownership and management.

Regarding his Type 1 RFA status, would 10 games on an AHL contract count as a professional year and open himself up to offer sheets next season?

ya think so stang?

Who knows at this point?

This should have been done a while ago if one or both sides weren't being unreasonable.

I thought he'd sign before the Flames preseason games were done, but that's passed. Now it seems possible he could actually sit for some real games. It shouldn't still be an unsure situation.

I think if he sits there's likely to be some damage the relationship between him and the Flames.

His agent literally just came out and said they have zero intentions to do that whatsoever. People can get over this idea.

Sure, since agents always tell the truth, and never calculate what they say for PR reasons.

A good rule of thumb is to not trust anything an agent or a GM says to the cameras.

Where I don't doubt this agents are like GM's.
They have no intentions until such time as they have intentions to do so.

And if they can't come to an agreement within the first few days or maybe weeks things could change.

People keep talking about Doughty he didn't miss anything meaningful. It was the first 13 days of camp.

And as long as something can get done before the start of the season I wouldn't see it as a big deal to either side. Going past that could cause damage.

They've been saying that for months. "Hope to get it done soon"

I'm pretty sure Trouba said they weren't asking for a trade, then a month later they changed their minds. However it's just my opinion, haven't heard anything at all, except Trevling went to see him, and now Trevling is back in Calgary and Johnny isn't.

The media is all over Trouba. Weren't their rumors that JG wanted out possibly? If not for a long contract?

I love how hard the media is always riding the Avs anytime they have a contract to sign... aka Barrie, ROR, and really any player

Yet right now it's really relatively quiet for the Flames and their management in terms of the media. Crazy how that works.

Not really. Almost everything you've heard thus far is hearsay or from an unidentifiable source regarding Gaudreau, because both camps (his agent and Treliving, ESPECIALLY Treliving) are incredibly tight-lipped about their deals. Treliving is gaining a certain notoriety for not letting a single detail leak until the ink is on the paper - leaks usually come from the other party.

If there's no real news, the talking heads can only speculate but even then they can't shoot their mouths off too much for fear of looking like a fool when all is said and done. However, with regards to O'Reilly's and Trouba's situation, news was released by at least one if not both parties so the media has had much more to play with.

Some say he also sleep 2 hours a day and spends his night simming NHL 17. I heard someone say from CP who was in the Flames locker room and overheard Burke talking about it.
