These types of negotiations never end well. A contract may get signed but the vast majority of players that hold out or go to arbitration get traded within a few years. The relationship between them, the GM and the owner gets sour.

Something tells me, Little Johnny will be out of Calgary after his next contract. As a Nucks fan, I am sad about this.

I'm not agreeing with what the other guy said but from past few years I remember, PK Subban and ROR. Ryan Johansen too.

Subban wasn't traded over the negotiations though, as far as anyone can tell.

Ryan O'Reilly I can't really speak on.

Johansen was more than that. Negotiations didn't help, but he also didn't show up in shape and clashed heavily with the ****** coach.

Zero chance Treliving would trade the Franchise's #1 revenue generating player. Anyone who thinks so is incredibly naive. Johnny Gaudreau's value is worth more than just what he does on the ice which is already incredible. His popularity, his merchandise sales and his ability to put butts in seats relative to the rest of team is not even close.

If you guys think for a second that Treliving and the ownership group doesn't know or understand this, then you guys are lost in my opinion. The NHL is a business first and the Flames ownership group will not be throwing away their biggest cash cow. The Flames know what Gaudreau is really worth and his worth is definitely more than what he'll be signing for.

This is strictly a GM right now who wants to utilize the rare bargaining power that he has over a player with as little of RFA rights that he has. Treliving understands market value. Heck, he paid Monahan more than fair market value. The contract will get done and Johnny Gaudreau will remain a Flame for a long time.

This. The jealous vultures predicting he has soured on Calgary or will be gone soon can go away.

If only Johnny would take a hometown discount to help the flames for the next 6-8 years. A good Ontario boy would.

You guys are funny...cash generating machine?
Flames attendance
2013 beforeJG = 19309
2014 = 19097
2015 = 19146

The revenue generating machine is hockey in Calgary. Same with hockey in Edmonton. Flames could suck for a decade and still sell out. Truth is, JG doesnt help win hockey games or sell tickets. Little guy is entertaining as hell...but thats an aside to what's truly important. Ask NJ Devils. 3 cups and boring as sin.

I think JG helps win a lot of games and will wherever he plays.

Not true. Calgary had trouble selling tickets when they were crap

If Gaudreau doesn't help win hockey games as one of the top scorers in the league, then I feel real sorry for whatever it's called that the devils ice lately.

Yeah, totally 100% agree with you. Flames had Iginla holding out years ago (1999-2000) on a contract, and it even spilled into the regular season, having him miss 3 games. Boy, that did not end well at all!! Jarome was shopped for 13 years before someone would take his disgruntled, Flame-hating butt off Calgary's hands.

Someone better remind Treliving of that so he doesn't make Gaudreau hate the Flames!!

Exactly, even that moron Burke (who is likely the goof holding things up) should understand this, Gretzky was a 99.9 % chance of NOT being traded but due to different circumstances I think Gaudreau is closer to 100%

Relationship between GM and player doesn't go sour just because negotiations take longer. Negotiation is a skill, it's not just what your message is, but how you present it, and that can make a difference. A really good negotiator gets what he wants while the opponent thinks he got what he wanted as well.

MacKinnon signed for 6.3 Mill per.
