Still waiting for Garth's letter to the fan base to let us know what happened this year. We're owed an explaination. Until then, no more tickets or season subscriptions.

I could write that for him. How is it any different than any other failed season? Plenty to choose from.

- we had injuries in key positions
(the defenseman I thought so little of, signed him for 1 year so he can be a UFA and walk. And a prospect who's never played a game)
- we're very close, we believe in the team
- there's a lot of parity in the league
- we have a great core and great coaching staff
- we're committed to winning the Stanley Cup

---
The Isles defend worse than any team in hockey (close to it, any way you measure) and outside their top 8 forwards, the production is just terrible

This group of 12 forwards have 37 goals over almost 600 games (apprx 5goals per 82) and a combined -44 and eat up almost $20Million in Cap hit

upload_2018-3-5_11-15-25.png

These aren't players that are good, and definitely won't improve (except maybe Ho-Sang) AND our defense are even worse, and goaltending even MORE pathetic (especially if Halak walks)

Garth has destroyed this franchise, yet again. And even if they bring in another hockey super-mind (if they find one), you have to think improvements are YEARS away, even longer if 91 walks.

Man, I was watching the Jets/Canes game yesterday, that Winnipeg team is so stacked with stars at every position, mostly players they drafted and developed but also some really smart trades.
Connor - Scheifele - Wheeler
Ehlers - Stastny - Laine
Pererault -Little- Roslovic

Morrissey - Buff - Kulikov - Myers

Hellebuyck

stacked!

That team has also been absolutely pathetic for almost 20 years. They have zero playoff game wins. Zero GAME wins.

Yes, they've been a joke forever - but that's about to change.

I'd swap rosters with them in a heartbeat and toss in Garth Snow as a sweetener.

There aren't any rumors/speculation around Lou and Toronto this year. It was speculated when he was first hired (he was hired AFTER Babcock and after the wonderkid Kyle Dubas) that Lou was there only to transition Dubas into the fulltime GM, after a year, or three.

BUT, who knows if that's true.

Some amazing drafting and re-stocking the system and now the Leafs are a contender for a cup, have a franchise centre on an ELC, two stars in Marner/Nylander and a top goalie in Freddie Anderson. Lou has been the instrumental in shaping this roster and Babcock is a superb coach.

Don't imagine the Leafs would mess with this chemistry and what they've built so far.

I'd be SHOCKED if Lou went anywhere

I just listen to Lou/Babcock speak to the media (Babcock twice a day, Lou every month or two) and it's orders of magnitude better than what I hear from Garth (NOTHING but excuses) and Doug Weight (confusion, blame, vague nonsense).

I feel like the fan who's been abused his whole life and doesn't feel he deserves better.

Pathetic.

Do you think the opportunity to work with his son would be appealing to Lou? That's the only way I see him leaving the leafs.

Winnipeg's an example of a team that hit on most (if not all) of their high first round picks. Coming away with Scheifele and Ehlers outside of the Top 5 is huge. Look no further than who Snow came away with in those drafts with his top 5 picks.

admittedly, I never thought of this angle and maybe it makes sense, but I just don't see Lou leaving TOR (yet I can see the Leafs hiring Chris!)

I hope I'm wrong, Lou would be a god-send on Long Island.

Isles don't have much success with siblings (Brett Lindros, David Toews, M.Gaudreau, S. Gionta) or father-son (Robert Nilsson, Zack Parise ;) )

Don't forget Blake Kessel or Martin Kariya. Or even Monty Trottier

Yeah I know it is a long shot. But since his contract is up it is his decision and not Leafs. One can only hope.

Brett Lindros was the nicest guy. I got tickets and they included the exec lounge under the coliseum. It was my oldest's first hockey game. Brett hung out with us for a while and signed autographs. My son was thrilled. I just remember how huge he was. Shame about all those concussions.

A haiku:

Why is Garth still here
What sins have we committed
Dear God please kill me.

1. Bill Torrey refused to trade French-Canadian Defenseman Denis Potvin to the Montreal Canadiens.
2. Billy Torrey selected goal-scoring winger Mike Bossy over stay-at-home defenseman Kevin McCarthy.
3. Bill Torrey stole Butch Goring on trade deadline 1980.
4. Bill Torrey stole Pat LaFontaine from, what turned out to be, the New Jersey Devils.
5. Bill Torrey built a team, that did not include Pat LaFontaine, that won four straight Stanley Cups.

All this was followed by a loss to Edmonton in 1984, first round draft pick busts between 1984-91 (generally speaking), sparse playoff appearances following Denis Potvin's retirement, Pierre Turgeon's injury as a result of Dale Hunter's criminal act, the "new" uniforms, Mike Milbury, Charles Wang, Garth Snow, and so much more.

I'd say that we've paid our debt for the early rewards of great teams. Can we please have some peace in Islander land? Jeez.

Well, people said that about the Isles after 2016. They've hit on their draft picks, so things may be changing for them, but this isn't exactly a franchise rife with success.

you're not liking the Jets this year, I see. Based on history, I get it. But they're near the top of the league, have the best top nine in hockey and a top goalie, defense isn't bad either. They're a blast to watch, they're young and I think they're going to be in the playoffs this year - so Isles fans should (have time to) watch.

Jets and Preds are the 2 best teams in the West. I'm not sold on VGK. I think Jets are still a little too young but they are very close.

No, I like them. I think they have a good team. I'm just saying they shouldn't be held aloft as a beacon of success when they haven't had any. Culture is tough to shift. Look at Edmonton. Lotto pick for them again.

And the NYI smoked them 2 months ago. What a fall it's been.

Neil Smith: Hired as GM, has won a Cup, wants to manage the team, gets fired in 40 days. Record: 0-0-0-0

Garth Snow: Hired as GM, has never won anything, or come close, as a player or a GM, has no plan, has never had a plan. Holds his position for 11+ years and count. Record: Embarrassing.

This organization is not profesionally run. Its run like a hobby of an owner who keeps his friends around no matter what. Suprised Yashin isnt still here playing. Dipietro would be if he could bend his knees and hips. concerning malkin and ledecky based on bottas articles sounds like Malkin owns the team Ledecky didnt invest much money and hes just a small invester to shake hands and smile...and neither malkin or ledecky have any knowledge or interest in the sport of hockey and have no interest in being involved in the hockey opetations.

After this Van loss, looking at the roster and the prospects and the picks coming up.. I stand by yet again optimistic that this turn around will happen. Team is too good to fail again next year (said it last year too but whatever). Just wish Garth wasn't in charge of overseeing that change. It should get done even with him.

do you look at the roster in isolation? try comparing the roster to the top teams in the East and see if you still feel the same.

And remember, all teams have prospects and picks. The Flyers have one of the best prospect pools in hockey and already have several young stars on the roster (Provorov, Couturier, Ghostisbere, Sanheim, Patrick) - there are so many other teams with great prospect pools and even higher upside than what the Isles have coming.

I don't see who's not already at/close to their max upside on this roster.

Maybe Barzal has another level, but he could also have a set-back like other young stars have. Both Lee and Bailey had career years. Maybe Leddy bounces back. And then what?

It's a not-so-young, not-so-great roster with no elite prospects and nobody who can make an impact next year, on defense or in goal, their two areas of serious weakness.

Not even a new coach or GM or both can help that. Not by next year.
And that's assuming Tavares re-signs. You remove Tavares, deHaan, Hickey, Kulemin, Halak and this team looks totally dreadful.

Beauvillier Barzal Eberle
Lee Nelson Bailey
Ladd Cizikas Clutterbuck
Johnston Wagner Fritz
Prince Quine Ho-Sang

Leddy Boychuk
Pelech Pulock
Davidson Mayfield
Toews

Greiss
Gibson

Have a look at that roster and please share the optimism you see.

This is a realistic roster, give or take a potential (overpaid) UFA to fill whatever cap space is available. And based on Garth's history, anyone expecting more is setting up for disappointment. Again.

You do realize Ledecky was part owner of the Capitals, right?

Also, your insinuation that neither run the hockey operations won't be tolerated. Provide a source or all of your spamming will be removed.

Ledecky says GMs GM and owners own when asked 2 months ago on wfan about the team itself the gm...players...basically he said he doesnt do hockey..he does business deals...I dont have any quotes from him otherwise. I have alot of quotes from newsday from the minority owner who is still part owner who talks about the current GM...how great he is as a friend and GM. just google newsday snow and Wang. The story on newsday comes right up. Malkin doesnt do any interviews regarding the sport of hockey. So out of 3 owners you have 2 that dont say anything 1 thats says he loves Snow...and chris botta a well connected hockey guy and staple both insinuating Wang gave snow a long extension right before he gave up full control. If i sell my family business and the last day i gave my son a 7 year extension as manager...what does that tell you?

They don't need to have any knowledge in the sport of hockey and they don't need to be involved in day-to-day hockey operations. What they need is to hire professionals to run their own business venture.

Right, GMs GM and owners own, and coaches coach. Minority owners who sold the majority stake don't do anything. Provide a source that Wang is currently running the hockey operations or stop posting about it. Posts implying that he runs it will be considered spam. You've been warned enough.

I've always wondered if Ledecky truly wants to be a hockey owner, or if he sees ownership more as an investment to flip at a later date to make money. He only hung on to his ownership stake of the Caps for like 3 years before flipping it for a profit, then went on to try and buy more sports franchises.
