I am really lacking any interest in anything to play as I wanted to try something newer but decided to give Prey a go since it was free. I’m probably only an hour in but this game seems super fun so far. I don’t know if it will end up being similar or not but it reminds me of Control early on and I absolutely loved that game.

I thought Prey was pretty underrated or at least seemed a bit under the radar for some reason, maybe the confusion over if it was related to the previous game of the same name. Of course I am a sucker for spooky space stuff so I could be biased as well

I'm at the end of Pathfinder WOTR. Incredible game, I'll do a write up once I've finished it up, but it's up there with DOS2 and BG2 as my favorite cRPG. I'm leaving the ending as a sort of reward for my vacation that's starting Friday.

Right now, I restarted kingdom come deliverance as I was around halfway through and that's yet another brilliant RPG. It's insane to me this was made by a AA développer un Czechia. I know it was a buggy mess at launch but now that it's fixed, it's a great immersive experience.

Been planning on starting WOTR soon, loved Kingmaker (totally unrelated nerd note... if Pathfinder floats your boat, check out The Glass Cannon Podcast. By far and away the best actual play tabletop RPG podcast out there. Pathfinder and they follow Giant Slayer adventure path. It's stellar. Nerd note over). Also been meaning to reload Kingdom Come again. Kind of bounced off it on release.

Not really interested in watching TTRPGs. Though I do like the mechanics of Pathfinder/DnD and wish there were more games like Pathfinder and Baldur's Gate, with not only the mechanics but really strong stories. If you loved Kingmaker, I think wotr is going to be right up your alley as it improves on it in pretty much every way. The mythic paths are just awesome.

KCD is also brilliant, but for other reasons. It kind of reminds of the old ultima games from when I was a kid. Every NPC has a routine and I love the immersion.

To be fair, I know it's not for everyone, but The Glass Cannon is a podcast... nothing you need to watch. It's so good.

I've got WotR updating right now. Can't wait

Probably not the one to start with as thats the end of the trilogy. Batmobile aside, that’s a great game, though.
Oh Lord, the batmobile. Yep. Even though I forgot about that, the games are solid.

I know about all the issues with multiplayer/live service, but to be honest the only online game I've invested more than like 5 hours into in my life is GTA:Online, so that doesn't matter to me. But, ever since I built my PC in November and signed up for 3 years of Gamepass, one of the games I really wanted to try was Halo Infinite's campaign, I've owned PS's for like 20 years, had an original X-box (so I played Halo: Combat Evolved), and my roommate had an X-Box 360 in university. I tried in November and it kept freezing in cut-scenes, but booted it up on Sunday and it's running great now. So far I'm really enjoying the campaign, even if I can't understand like half the story (I get the gist, but I feel there is alot of call backs, and maybe the start of the game could have used a refresher for people new or just coming back to the ecosystem). I could see Horizon: Forbidden West having this issue for people who didn't play Zero Dawn. Some other franchises I found easy to pick up with their latest installments like Uncharted 4.

I started with that and while I plan to go back to Asylum and City at some point, compared to the game I just described, the story was pretty easy to pick up for anyone somewhat familiar with Batman.

I started Dome Keeper on PC and it's addictive. It's a 2D pixel art roguelike that's part mining game and part tower defense game. I'm really going to show my age here, but it's like if you combined Dig Dug with Missile Command. You start with your base on the surface of a harsh planet, protected by a glass dome, and must dig down into the ground for resources and haul them back up to your base. There, you can spend them on upgrades which can be to your suit (ex. drill power, movement speed), your dome (ex. laser power, health) or on new gadgets.

Every few minutes, a wave of creatures on the surface attacks your dome and you have to get back in time and kill them with your laser before they destroy your dome (which is game over). The waves get increasingly harder and you end up having to dig really deep to keep finding resources (making the trip longer), so it gets pretty challenging. In the end, what you're really looking for is a well-buried artifact that, once found and recovered, initiates the final wave. Surviving that achieves victory and unlocks a new tech that you can then use in the next game.

Each game takes up to an hour and is a learning experience. On my first game, I lost because I was figuring out the mechanics. On my second, I had a much better idea of what to do (especially early on) and won, but could've done things even better. I'm already thinking about my next game. As I said, it's addictive. That said, I can see the replay value dropping off once I've beaten it half a dozen times and unlocked and tried out every tech in the game, but I'm enjoying it so far and I'm not the biggest roguelike fan.

I'm still playing this a month later. I thought that I'd get tired of it by now, but I haven't. Maybe some of that is that I don't play it every day, but I keep coming back to it because it's perfect when I have only an hour and want the rewarding feeling of winning a game. I'm also still unlocking new gadgets and abilities and there are still game variations that I haven't tried. It really scratches my urge to optimize and figure out which are the best upgrades and in which order to pursue them. I'm getting pretty good at it, but I'm always on my toes and win only by the slimmest of margins, so I feel like I still have a lot to learn. It's just a fun, fast-paced and challenging indie game.

Just wanted to echo that Prey is an excellent game.

Dishonored 2. I missed this series the first time around and Deathloop gave me a craving for more Arkane games.

It has not disappointed so far.

I'm not sure how many people here would have played it but I gave up on Baba is You. It's a highly rated puzzle game where you're kind of re-coding the game as you go to solve puzzles. My problem is the game does a terrible job explaining the rules and so much of it is trial and error. Meanwhile you don't know why things work so in later puzzles, you have no clue where to even start. I get stuck for a while trying everything I can think of, look up a solution, and I don't understand why that solution solves the puzzle because the game just doesn't explain anything to you.

I do enjoy puzzle games so I was shocked to be so frustrated with such a highly rated one. The weird thing is the first couple hours are enjoyable. Most of the highly rated reviews on Steam show people not getting much further than that... The difficulty curve is way too crazy and it makes the reviews very misleading.

I have to say that Metro; Last Light is more fluid, has better graphics and a more intelligible story. This is an example of perfecting a formula in the sequel.
I thought Last Light's story was absolutely terrible in comparison to 2033.
