Started up LA Noire (PS4 version) and it's still as engaging as it was all those years ago when I played it on PS3. The driving is still ass but at least you can make your partner drive lol. It's a shame the devs weren't able to make a sequel and enhance the gameplay loop, still an awesome game though.

Any other games where you play as a detective?

I just started Prodeus, a first-person retro shooter that came out today on PC and consoles. It's fast paced and very bloody and has satisfying weapons, a heavy soundtrack and almost no story. It's pretty much DOOM, somewhere between the 1993 version and the 2016 one, though it adds buying and upgrading weapons. It's a blast so far.

I've eyeing that game for a while now. It looks fantastic.

Also, I've decided to go through my RPG backlog, so started Disco Elysium. All I can say is this is a special game. I've never played anything quite like this since Planescape Torment. The writing and voice acting are phenomenal. I used to love RPGs, but sometimes I would just skip over the dialogue and read it as fast as I can. Not this, I want to read and listen to every line. Loving the experience up to now, it's very unique.

EDIT: There's a dialogue with Plaisance, the bookstore owner, which is just brilliant. You reflect to her she's been treating her daugher Annette the same way her Mother and Husband have been treating her. The way it was worded was straight out of a objects relations psychodynamic session. Who the hell are these writers ? Man, I've never payed a game with this standard of writing. It's a small detail, but the dialogues are filled with details like these.

I need to give that another chance. I tried it when it was new and it didn't do much for me, but a lot of that could've been that my PC at the time couldn't handle it and sluggish performance hurt the experience. I've since massively upgraded, so I need to try the game again. I have a big RPG backlog, myself. I love RPGs, but knowing that it could take me 40 hours to finish one makes it hard to commit to starting one. It's a lot easier to start something like Prodeus that I know that I'll be able to finish in a fraction of the time. The irony is that, once I do start an RPG, I usually don't want it to end.

I'm officially 101 hours into Xenoblade 3. And I estimate I still have around ~30-40 hours left. I know that sounds terrifying to most, but I can't get enough. You can probably finish the game in a brisk 60 hours if you just focus on the main story, but I want to see everything.

As a longtime fan of the developer, it feels like Monolith Soft has taken a lot of the criticisms of the earlier entries and finely tuned their formula to perfection. People didn't like the fan service of XC2, it's gone. The sidequests used to be formulaic checklists to mark off, now they feel more organic and detailed. There are so many big sidequests that develop the characters in this world, it feels like Witcher 3 compared to the earlier entries. And when the negatives are removed from the Xeno world, all you have left is their impeccable strengths. Fantastic world building and music, great stories featuring many twists and turns with heavy philosophical and religious themes.

A monumental achievement, I think Xenoblade 3 will end up surpassing Persona 5 as my favourite JRPG of the past decade.

Just noticed that Ubisoft+ is free until 10th of october, atleast in germany. Perfect to play the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion for AC Valhalla.
I am very happy I did not invest money into the expansion. After the good "Curse of the Pharaos" and the phenomenal "Fate of Atlantis" this is such a weak expansion.

Curse of the Druids is phenomenal. Absolutely loved every minute of playing in Ireland. Making my way through the others now. I started the new Valheim free expansion and I'm digging it so far.

The gf and I were in the mood for a new couch co-op game and I noticed The Skywalker Saga was on sale, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it. A few hours in and it already feels like it's the first real jump in progress for the LEGO game formula. The game invites exploration and puzzle-solving in a way that keeps you engaged and distracted from the main story missions, which is usually a good sign. The combat isn't nearly as mind-numbing as it's been in the past and on the PS5 it looks pretty impressive too, even in split-screen. That said, it's not the most polished game. There's been a few instances of texture pop-in and frame rate hiccups, but nothing egregious. We're both really enjoying it and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a zero-stress, fun co-op game. Especially if you're a Star Wars fan.

I think I'm nearing the end of Disco Elysium and it is absolutely brilliant. It blends everything I liked about the DnD games of Black Isle and point and click adventures, but makes it even better with incredible writing and art style. It's the best RPG I've played since Divinity: Original Sin 2. It's probably the first game where I feel the writing and story does actually compare to real literature. Planescape was close, but not quite.

So many people have praised this game, I really want to play it someday. But I'm not a PC gamer and I'm skeptical of how it will play on consoles.

Noticed there was some discouraging news about the sequel the other day.

A few hours into Grounded now that the 1.0 version has been released.

Absolutely loving it so far. Very creative and well crafted world.

Recommend playing with headphones, all the surrounding insect and ambient noises come out better.
I’ve been playing this a lot too. I have a solo game and a shared world game with friends. Solo is stressful as hell but its a lot of fun.

Up to a half dozen hours in and I am now terrified. Playing solo and decided to do the Whoa difficulty level. I’m enjoying the challenge, but so many creatures that will quickly kill me if I can’t run and escape, fighting isn’t an option.

Starting a shared game with friends in the next few weeks.

Whoa difficulty?!? That’s insanity. I’m on mild and everything wants to kill me. I couldn’t imagine.

Playing Titanfall 2 for the first time ever, just finished the time travel mission and so far this has been the best FPS campaign i've played in 10+ years. Platform-esque movement mechanics and a super solid FPS feel to it. Interchanging the Titans into the gameplay was executed perfectly so far and i'm blown away by this game. Super refreshing to play.

Also dabbling in Fenyx Rising. Very ballsy with how much they ripped off of BOTW. The Greek Mythology aspect keeps it fresh and visually it looks much better than what the Switch is capable of outputting. The humor misses a lot of the time and can be a little distracting but it does feel nice to play a higher performance version of a game i love so much.

Yeah, Titanfall's a very good game, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It fell under the radar when it came, but it was the easily the best FPS of the bunch. Everything still holds up really well 6 years later. EA really did Respawn dirty putting out the game when it did. But that's EA for you, bunch of clowns.

I finally started Amid Evil. It's fun. It's like what Heretic II should've been 25 years ago, instead of a 3rd-person action game. It's super easy, though, even on Hard. I'm on the 2nd episode and haven't even come close to dying yet. The enemies don't do much damage and there's way too much health and ammo lying around. It's quite a shock after beating Prodeus on Very Hard (while dying a lot). It's still fun, but could really use another difficulty level or two. I do really appreciate that it takes only one or two mouse clicks to get into the game, especially after the seven required by Prodeus, which was also fun, but not very gamer friendly in multiple ways. Amid Evil's developers understand that less is better with retro shooters.

Edit: Ok, Amid Evil's 3rd episode is quite a bit more challenging.
Edit #2: I just looked it up and I'm actually on the 4th episode. Apparently, I skipped the 3rd one. No wonder there was such a jump in difficulty since the 2nd one.

I started playing the original F.E.A.R. the other day. It's not nearly as scary as I remember it being when I played the demo like 15-20 years ago but then again I was a lot younger. It's still fun though. If anything, it makes me realize how dumb AI is in newer games. You don't want to walk around with a flashlight because the enemy will spot you immediately, yelling "flashlight!" I feel like that's not the kind of stuff you see anymore in games.

I started playing that 15-20 years and didn't even finish the first level. I was just like "nope" when the scary imagery started showing up (whatever it was). I'm the most hardened horror film buff, to the point that nothing scares or grosses me out, but I'm a big sissy when it comes to horror games, for some reason. It's probably the first-person perspective and the fact that I can't disassociate myself from the character on screen because I'm playing him. Maybe I should try F.E.A.R. again, myself.
