Sorry but it’s an objective fact that companies are being brought on board by shareholders in order to HR-ize the content. You don’t have to be a “chud” to point out that basic, indisputable fact. Just because you may agree with the morality of the messaging doesn’t mean people who call out the unnatural and forced usage of it are wrong or deserve to be put in some kind of box where you can turn off your brain when they mention certain words. The vast majority of people don’t want their fiction to sound like it was written by a redditor.

yeah totally no argument except for pointing out its not the content that get people angry its when its forced in for social credit points and also gave you 2 examples where homosexual relationships are included and an option to engage in yet there was no mass gamer outrage.

It's really gotten way out of hand. Like in the Upcoming Games thread someone posted the trailer for Expedition 33 which I thought looked amazing, went on Steam to wishlist it... then made the mistake of clicking on the forums. Just a shit show there, even though what's been provided so far has absolutely nothing to fan the flames. Same thing with Eiyuden Chronicles, back in the spring, 1 or 2 extremely minor things in the translation and the garbage just spews out in discussion. As a long time Steam user it never used to be this way, and this is far more on the audience changing than the companies. It's just embarrassing.

That said, I'll give some leeway for the Dragon Age topic here as that screenshot at least is a very modern phrase that has no context for a fantasy setting. Baldur's Gate 3 also kicked up a bit of a shit storm with some choices when it came out, but that could easily be muted by how awesome the game ended up being regardless. I saw a comment somewhere relating to the very bad Dragon Age animation that came out on Netflix/Prime, amidst all the great fantasy animations being released recently, that it was like it was written by teenagers. I suspect that's probably going to be an apt description here as well.

Nobody wants to be preached to in a video game, and everybody can see when the writer's idiosyncrasies bleed into the material and make the product that is supposed to be for an audience actually about themselves.

On further review I retract my prior statement about Dragon Age being too much. For all the buzzwords people like, on the Steam page I know these are user assigned but it ha the LGBTQ tag and that's exactly what it is. I mean, look how purple all the aesthetics are. I guess the animated series was the same way and they're probably using the same group of writers, but when the identity is labelled as such up front then it's not a matter of the "writer's idiosyncraisies" being "about themselves", but rather this becomes the targeted audience.

The issue with the game isn't the activist stuff, it's how your character has to be a babysitter and treat all their companions like they're children. The writing is embarrassing levels of bad, the type where you question if the writing staff have ever had relationships with other people before.

Lots of people arguing over politics about Dragon Age on the internet. I'm a simple man that just sees an EA title and automatically assume it's going to be bad. AAA gaming sucks, it has sucked for years now. I feel like there's going to be a crash on the AAA scene eventually and it'll be because they're too focused on trying to appeal to everyone instead of having focus on one thing and making it great. I look forward to pretty much 1 AAA title every 5 years because they just look to maximize sales over that crap that I don't even waste my time on it. We really need a crash in AAA gaming to set the industry straight. It's crazy how much better indie games are with sometimes a non-existent budget.

Speaking of indie games, I got Laika: Aged Through Blood which is a metroidvania where you traverse the world on a dirt bike, it's pretty interesting but super hard. Fortunately there are lots of checkpoints. I would not be surprised if I end up getting frustrated over the difficulty and stopping eventually though.

I've also been playing Carmageddon: Max Damage which is basically a reboot from 8 years ago. The cars are super slippery but it's still pretty fun for what it is. It's not like any other game lets you win a race by running over every pedestrian in the city after all!

BO6 multiplayer is great, definitely the best since the advanced movement games. Haven't touched the other modes though

Looking forward to some games on my list going on sale because I'm done with Elden Ring lol, I'm in the "git gud" phase and I don't have the time or patience for that. I guess I could go farm runes. Really hoping Metaphor or Cold Steel 1 goes on sale.

Played some Organ Trail yesterday, still a fun game despite it's shortcomings.

Started Majora's Mask for the first time. Two dungeons in, I might quit. The time limit stresses me, redoing things because I had to reset the cycle is not fun. Especially with the (in 2024) wanky controls and absolutely poor framerate (yeah I know about 2Ship2Harkinian but I wanted to play it on the Switch). The atmosphere is top notch though, first two dungeons were ok but nothing ground breaking.
