the leafs have the same powerplay for the past 4 years, one of matthews or marner takes he puck, skates towards the goalie to shoot or pass. Why can't they do something different, behind the net, barely make any successful cross passes, or shots from the middle (jt's spot)

Removing Rielly fixes absolutely nothing. He's our best offensive defenseman by a mile. This personnel have proven capable before, they just need to do it
He needs to shoot from the point, always defers to Mitch on the wall. Chuck some pucks to the net, simplify the PP.

Galchenyuk had that one good game with Matthews and Marner but has looked a little out of place there.

I think Foligno would work well with JT and Hyman. A very hard working line, very good defensively.
Third line can be Mik Kerfoot Nylander. Good chemistry between Kerfoot and Nylander

It's inexplicable... The best analogy I can come up with is this.

We're like an NBA team that is deadly in transition (5 on 5), but can't run sets out of the half court (the powerplay) to save our lives.

It all starts with not having a PG (D-man that controls the PP and makes great first passes l) that can start the play and execute the set. It's embarrassing and role should be in Sandin's hand next year. Reilly can't handle it.

Reilly seems clueless on the PP. Jake Gardiner was more effective on the PP.

Watch the refs give us an unprecedented amount of power plays in the playoffs because teams score more than we do on them.

We started off (recently) as a good PP that couldn't convert. This is a bad PP that doesn't know where to start.

Entries are bad, recovery is bad, shot choices are bad, options are bad, pass choices are off. Literally nothing is going well and it's all on them.
I'm guessing coaches have panicked and are now constantly trying/changing things in practice, and the players are lost.

I still blame the 4 core forwards though. They're paid too much to ever have a PP slump like this. I blame them.

I gave Engvall benefit of the doubt, he's kind of not very good or over played
He's decent. Tbh.

He's very good when he's on and playing the way Keefe likes. Problem is the consistency is not there. Consistency is huge in the NHL, unsurprisingly.

For that reason alone, a very good player with no consistency is decent.

He's not that expensive but I think I would rather have Nash and Foligno in before him. Especially for playoffs.
